Beth SOB.

In my head that's exactly what happens.

Grace I'm working on developing some fairly extensive post-series headcanon (Tacy and Harry have a daughter named Beatrice, for example). THEY ALL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER. ALL OF THEM.

Beth YES. It's so scary to think of the two(!) devastating wars they lived through. The end always reminds me of Rilla of Ingleside, which is why I steadfastly maintain they live happily ever after. The alternative is way too tough.

Grace Exactly! I maintain the same thing. ALL THE BOYS ARE OKAY, and they come home and live happily ever after.

The ending of this one is so hopeful and wonderful that I refuse to believe any other possibility.

Beth Yes!

(Off topic and all, but how good was tonight's win?! I went out so I missed the end, when CC was cruising along, but still.)

Grace (So good! Robbie's hitting again. CC was cruising. Aside from Nunez' errors, which you can more or less count on, A VERY GOOD GAME ALL AROUND!)

Katie That moment when you're glancing at your GoodReads feed and wondering who this Robbie is and how you forgot his presence in one of your favorite books.

AND HERE'S WHERE I START MY TRASH TALK FOR TOMORROW! YOU GET FELIX. YOU WILL FAILLLLLLLLL! (Interesting question raised by a Mariner blogger: In light of the Pineda trade aftermath, will there be MORE or FEWER Felix-to-New-York stories?)

Ahem. Back on topic:

The ending of this one is so hopeful and wonderful that I refuse to believe any other possibility.

This is exactly how I feel. I can't see anything else. And, hey, the US got in the war pretty late, so they won't be over that long! It'll be all good. No psychological trauma either!

(And ohhhh. Beth. When Anne is thinking in Rilla about how she didn't have to go through any like that in HER childhood, I think about how her CHILDREN'S CHILDREN will also have to go through it.)

Grace JUST FOR THAT we'll probably put up 10 runs in 3 innings against King Felix and go on to score 13 tonight, and then we'll get shut out for the rest of the weekend. (Note: I'd prefer it if this doesn't happen, but YOU NEVER KNOW.)

This is exactly how I feel. I can't see anything else. And, hey, the US got in the war pretty late, so they won't be over that long! It'll be all good. No psychological trauma either!

Yes! EXACTLY. The US got into it pretty late and they'll be FINE. They have to be.

:( :( :(

Katie NOOOOOOOOOOOO. I'M NOT EVEN FULLY READING THAT PARAGRAPH. MY BRAIN REBELS. (Haha, okay, now I read it, and laughing at myself because yep. I would take a Felix win over a series win.)

Also, as you know, you can't predict baseball, so now that won't happen. ;)

Grace IT'S THE KIND OF THING YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO PREDICT. SO IT'S ALMOST LIKE A DOUBLE NEGATIVE, IN A SENSE. MAYBE. I THINK.

I kinda wish we had a CC-Felix pitching matchup. That would have made for a great game! (And lol, I would totally lose tonight to win the other two. Especially Pettitte's start. SORRY, KURODA. WELL, NOT THAT SORRY. If only we could predict baseball...)

Katie Yeah, I know, but I DON'T KNOW! GLAD TO MISS CC! Do you know who the Mariners have never faced? As in never ever ever ever? David Price.

Grace We see him ALL THE TIME, which I suppose is fairly normal given the whole in the same division with him thing. Last night was apparently the first time CC won in a head to head matchup against Price. I didn't realize CC had never beaten Price before. ACTUALLY, I only seem to remember the times we've done WELL against Price? Like the Jeter 3K game. That was a great game.

Katie Yeah, and it's not like we face the Rays that often, but IT'S STILL WEIRD. I mean, it feels like Felix goes up against you guys ALLLLLL the time!

Ooooh, I don't think I realized the Jeter game was against Price. NICE.

Beth That moment when you're glancing at your GoodReads feed and wondering who this Robbie is and how you forgot his presence in one of your favorite books.

Ha!

I THINK WE'RE GOING TO SWEEP THIS WEEKEND. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

The last time we saw Felix (granted, not in Yankee Stadium) we strung 6 runs on him. I have already reminded Katie of that, but hey! I can remind her some more :D

He's been really, really good this year, though.

But: if Kuroda has a good start, he's also fantastic. And Andy is Andy, so I'm not so worried. I don't think. Hughes is a wild card, though.

CC-Felix would have been GREAT! But CC-Price last night was awesome, so I'm not so upset.

Grace It really DOES feel like we see Felix every time we play you guys, Katie. And yep, the Jeter 3K game was Price vs. Burnett.

(He's been really, really good this year so he's due for a bad start? It would be just like us to get shut down by Brian Matusz and then put up a crooked number against King Felix, though. YOU HAVE TO ADMIT.)

It's hard to complain about no CC-Felix when we got CC-Price, but I would LOVE to see a CC-Felix matchup sometime.

I enjoy how this discussion isn't even REMOTELY about the book anymore.

Beth Goodreads = new site for baseball discussion!

Katie NOT TALKING TO BETH ANYMORE.

Except to tell you both Montero is catching tonight! Oh, also to say, THESE ARE NOT LAST YEAR'S MARINERS. They are capable of coming back from six runs down!

And this via Twitter: "Felix Hernandez vs. #Yankees: 6-4, 3.29 ERA in 11G. Felix in NY: 4-1, 1.96, 5G. Felix in new Yankee Stadium: 3-0, 0.38 ERA, 3G."

AND NOT TRUE. People were pretty worried about Felix at the beginning of the year and he had a bad start against OAKLAND. OAKLAND.

Beth I WILL SAY THAT YOU BROUGHT UP TRASH-TALKING FIRST :D

Yeah, Felix has been ridiculous in Yankee Stadium. It's because he's auditioning for a job.

...JOKING, KATIE, I PROMISE.

Katie You guys might be interested in this article: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2012/05...

Taking it more seriously that you meant it (but not in a bad way!): Beth, something I've been thinking about lately is I don't really care about the Felix to NY stuff anymore? I mean, OF COURSE I care that Felix stays in Seattle, but . . . he wants to and the team wants him to, so I guess I just take all the stories as a compliment and don't worry about it! :D Though also see my question above about whether Pineda will increase or decrease the talk.

And I DO think Felix loves pitching in Yankee Stadium and loves the crowds. But I think what he wants is that in Seattle.

ANYWAY. SHOULD GET READY FOR WORK. HAPPY FELIX DAY!

Edit: Also, just thought of something: AUDITIONING for a job, Beth? LIKE YOU GUYS NEED AN AUDITION TO WANT HIM. :P

Beth That article is well-written and all (he knew Campos is on the DL, too! I'm impressed) but too short-sighted for me. If Pineda comes back and is a CC-esque beast the conversation will shift completely. Again.

ANYWAY. Good baseball coming up tonight, regardless of outcome! I AM EXCITED.

Ha, Katie :D (I've seen some Yankees fans say recently that they're worried about the number of innings on his arm/decreased velocity. And yet he really has been good this year.)

Katie I think there was some indication of that in the article, but he didn't go far enough in acknolwedging that? I mean--FINGERS CROSSED--there are no guarantees Montero and Noesi stay healthy.(Oh, the Campos thing did end up going around the Mariners media! Someone even wrote an article on it.)

I'M STILL MAD I CAN'T WATCH. But at least I'll have Gameday.

I'm not too worried about the number of innings on his arm. I mean, I've read the studies about young pitchers, so I don't want to completely dismiss the concern, but he's been SO durable (AGAIN. FINGERS CROSSED) that I think he might be one of the pitchers who handles it okay.

And the velocity is interesting! That was the biggest concern about him early in the year, but it's come back up. And the other thing is, Felix's change up? AMAZING. It's been talked about--in Mariner circles, at least--as one of the best pitches in baseball.

And I read a brief mention today or yesterday about Tim Lincecum's drop in velocity and how he doesn't seem to have handled it yet and it got me thinking about how Felix HAS handled it. He's still making it work. (And this is another thing I love about him. He doesn't have all his stuff for every single start, but HE MAKES IT WORK. And he'll talk about that, too.)

Look, I'm just going to sit here and write love letters to Felix all day. :DDD

Katie More twitter: "@RyanDivish: Well, at least this time, Jack Zduriencik won't just be asked about trading Felix when he talks to the NY media."

"@StoneLarry: That Andy Pettitte-Kevin Millwood matchup on Sunday should be a classic. #tweetsfrom2002"

Beth Ha, no, I know what you mean! Great pitches adjust like that. I wonder where you read that bit about Lincecum, because I just read something about him, too.

Katie HM. You know what? It might've been a Josh Beckett article on Fangraphs. Not sure about that, though.

Katie THIS IS A GAME THREAD, RIGHT?

BECAUSE YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. DUSTIN ACKLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: Except for, believe it or not, Felix with a lead makes me nervous. It's not that he doesn't know how to win, it's that he doesn't know how to handle being ahead!
