I have been tracing my roots for a very long time and I don't seem to be learning anything. At least I wasn't. I was also frustrated with books claiming to be help guides, but only touch on the most basic things and mostly irrelevant.
Since buying this book I have added an entire branch to my tree that had previously been tormenting me with its elusiveness.
Ms. Collins opened up doors for me regarding things I should have known, but didn't. Her down to earth style of writing is more like having a pleasant conversation with her than reading a book. She gives you the facts, then backs it up with practical experience. She explains important things in a manner that any beginning tree climber can understand and offers useful information for people who have been at it for a while but need more guidance.
I didn't find any slow spots and I even figured out how to highlight and bookmark on my Kindle so I could refer back to things. I think the best thing about this book is that it made learning fun and it had earned its retail price before I even got half way through.
I strongly encourage newbies and even others like me who have some skill under their belt, but need to fine tune it, to add this book to their library. I have read several other books on this subject that were so dry I could not even finish them. But this is going in my book log of favorites right along with my W. Daniel Quillen titles.
Thank you, Ms. Collins for a delightfully educational guidebook. ...more

Kate Johnson has one of the freshest voices I have read in a long time. Her stories tickle me to no end, despite being mysteries. the dialogue is always snappy, the characters are always real enough to live down the road from you and Johnson knows how to make setting a great part of her stories.
There are so many dimensions to her books that I can't seem to make myself stop reading. With each page I read, I dread going on because I know eventually I will get to the end.
Ms. Johnson is just going to have to keep writing Sophie Green mysteries until both Sophie and I are too old to see, move, read, or breathe.
Readers who enjoy Kate Johnson's style of writing might also enjoy the Miller Sisters Mysteries (Totally Buzzed and Totally Fishy) by Gale Borger. While they aren't British, they do bring the same kind of entertainment to readers via Wisconsin....more

I got hooked on the Sigma Force books (unabridged audio) but could not find this book in audio, so I bought the paperback. It was my in the car book (meaning I only got to read it when I was in a parking lot, out to lunch alone, or other situations where I was in the car or alone away from home.
How good was this book? In the last two weeks, I have found so many reasons to go out alone that I have gained 7 lbs just so I could finish this book.
Very different from the Sigma Force books, but I really and truly enjoyed the action, the adventure, and the entire premise.

Amy and Dan Cahill have lost almost everything that matters to them during their short lives. When their grandmother passes away they are are given a choice, along with the rest of their family. They can take a million dollars or join a quest to find 39 Clues that will lead to world domination.
Pitted against their relatives, most of them bordering on evil and greedy, Dan and Amy head off on a journey around the world in search of the clues and answers to a multitude of family secrets.
This first mystery in the series is a grand start to the adventure. Amy and Dan discover that their family genes are rooted in the DNA of some of the world's most intelligent, powerful, and talented people in world history.
Maze of Bones takes us into the life of Benjamin Franklin and gives us some wonderful insight into his deeds and adventures of his own.
39 Clues is a very clever way of getting kids interested in some very interesting and famous people without making it seem like learning.
Rick Riordan is a really cool author and the Maze of Bones is a great way to begin this series. If you want your kids to read, this is an excellent place to start. Lots of mystery, tons of aventure, and some rip-roaring action....more

Nikki Leigh is what every I cannot tell you how helpful this book has been to me. I have read it three times now and I refer back to it all the time. Nikki Leigh is what every marketing guru should aspire to.
Her information is concise, easy to understand, and practical. So often help guides only manage to muddy the issues with a lot of blahdy blahdy blah. Nikki, keeps it simple and easy to implement.
I recommend it to all my authors, and anyone else who will listen.

The Specialists Young Adult series has become one of my favorites and that is saying a lot for a 43-year-old woman with no children.
NATIVE TONGUE is a bit of a departure from the series as it has a much more serious tone than the previous books. But it is by far the best. Parrott is a wonderful character with some deeply emotional issues. The premise of family is much stronger in this book than the others and offers us a deeper look into both Parrott and Gigi's personalities.
The fun part is meeting the colorful characters when we head into the jungle. Adventure is a great venue for Greenland as a writer and she pulls off all the various aspects of this book with ease. Each of her books is better than the last.
Don't you dare jump into this series in the middle, start with MODEL SPY, and enjoy every word.

Jack Daniel's day has been pretty bad, but no one can imagine what's still in store for the detective when she heads home to check on her mom in the burbs. But when she gets there and finds that everyone is all tied up-literally, she isn't quite ready to give up. Not yet, anyway. Jack's past has come back with a vengeance and this time, it's looking like no one is getting out alive. Worse than discovering her home has been invaded, her work has followed her home.
Konrath has a take no prisoners writing style that seeps into every pore, leaving the reader breathless and exhausted. FUZZY NAVEL is an action-packed must read.

The characters are horribly creepy and the house itself is one of the best characters I remember reading.
