“I’d been born to know this girl. To find this girl. To love this girl. There was no other explanation for how we’d found each other. It was fate.”
I will always love an angsty epic love story and this one absolutely delivers in every way. Aslan and Nerida’s story felt so unique and special.
Our main characters meet when Nerida is 12 and a pod of dolphins lead her and her parents to a shipwrecked 16 year old Aslan. Now completely alone and on the run for his life, he has no choice but to lean on the kind family who has found him. And as they get older he realizes he can’t jeopardize the safety he’s found by disregarding the very clear order to stay away from Nerida, no matter how connected they are.
This story leaves you with no doubt that our two characters are soulmates while never knowing for sure the twist and turns that this painful journey will take them on and when or even if they will find a way to be together.
I really enjoyed the way that the narrative is structured. It kicks off with our aging FMC deciding to share her epic love story with two reporters, sparing no detail, no matter how painful. We get the story through a combination of flashbacks and more traditional story telling in the present. We are also constantly reminded that the hardships to come and that we need to be prepared, and that keeps a certain level of foreboding the entire time you’re reading.
I loved not only our two main characters but also the side characters, especially Nerida’s parents. I also think the setting of this book and the plot surrounding Nerida’s family’s career in marine biology and dreams of living under the sea really added to the story.
There’s so much to this duet and I don’t want to give too much away, but please check trigger warnings! There’s some particularly tough scenes in both books surrounding SA, violence, torture, and more so make sure you are ready for that.
I won’t be forgetting about Nerida and Aslan for quite a while and if you’re up for a dark angsty forbidden romance that spans years and unimaginable pain then definitely pick this duet up.
Also worth noting: I both read and listened to this duet and the audios for both books were really great as well! ...more

Stayed up all night reading because I needed to finish this book. What right does Jewel E Ann have to take a trope I was certain I hated and make me love it. No spoilers but my god is this angsty. Did I want to shake some sense into our FMC for half the time? yes! But I’ll say she did what she needed to do in a very unique situation and it all works out so like, whatever lol
For those of y’all that don’t like OW drama this might not be for you but I’m literally obsessed with it.

Full of all of the angst I need in my life. Forbidden, age gap, forced proximity, workplace. She’s fresh out of Highschool and it’s her first time away from a very religious upbringing, and her naked fisherman has her questioning everything. He’s super frustrating but I also love him. I was so pumped to get Memphis’s story after reading The Words, and part one did not disappoint. This book takes place before The Words, and shows us I was so pumped to get Memphis’s story after reading The Words, and part one did not disappoint. This book takes place before The Words, and shows us how Josh, Skylar, and Memphis met. Josh and Memphis are foster brothers who move into a new foster home next door to Skylar. Both are immediately taken by her, but unfortunately one of them gets to her first. Fucking Josh. Dude can eat a bag of dicks. For real. ANYWAY, Memphis is a new favorite book boyfriend. I love him. He spends most of the book just pining after Skylar and I just adore everything about him. Even his need to be an asshole so that he can keep his distance. He’s cute as shit. Plus he has a massive dick and calls her a good girl. This book is at times hard to read because of the characters back story, and the fact that Josh is the biggest douche canoe there ever was. But I still absolutely loved it. It does end in a cliffhanger, but because we got to see where Memphis and Skylar end up in The Words, it wasn’t completely devastating. I am still dying for book two though

When I tell you that Sara Cate can do no wrong, I really mean it. I’ll read anything she writes at this point.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, this series is the PERFECT balance of heart and ridiculously hot spice. The characters feel real and fleshed out and you absolutely feel for them. This book is no different.
Daddy Ronan is everything anyone could ever want in a daddy. And not just because the dude is filthy rich, which he is. But because his ultimate goal is to take care of Daisy, even before he let himself cross that physical line with her. He just wanted her to be safe and comfortable and happy. He also flies her to Paris on his private jet. I mean, come on ...more

I just absolutely adored her character and her complete refusal to conform. She saw how flawed the system was and refused to support it, and I loved that for her.
I loved the forbidden aspect of the story, though not terribly forbidden. Asher is not a particularly likable character in book one, but I also understood him, and I was happy to see his development as a character in this book.
And I absolutely love the plot running through these books: the decision that Asher made in book one even though it was fundamentally against the rules that he was supposed to uphold. And the way he is with Naya in this book is so precious.
If you asked me who my favorite couple was in this series I prolly couldn’t tell you. I love them all. ...more

It’s a forbidden/taboo relationship - dads best friend and business partner who also helped raise her. He is completely obsessed with her and also happens to have a CNC kink. It was over the top in a way I would compare to a Jessa Kane novella and I fully ate it up. Not something I’m looking for all the time but definitely scratches an itch.
