A. Knightley coming in strong with the second addition to this series. Her debut Under the Lupine Moon was enjoyable but left me wanting a bit but this novella was a much stronger entry to the Silver Rapids series.
I knew she was a gonna be a favorite of mine. Her voice really shown through in this novella. The few complaints I had with her debut were almost completely nonexistent. I had nonstop fun. The kink was so well done and OMG the cozy halloween vibes were sooooo good.
If you could package sipping on hot cider around a crackling fire place with friends as the sunsets and leaves fall around you, it would be this book.
Also, I absolutely adore her acknowledgements. With both of her titles, they truly feel like a heartfelt letter directly to the reader and it is just so endearing.
I can't wait to see what Knightley does next (Sam and Silas, I'm looking at youuuuuu!)...more

goddamn it, booktok... i knew you couldn't be trusted...
this was an absolute mess. honestly, it's only saving grace (that extra .6 stars) was the narration by Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers who did an EXCELLENT job.
i was SO excited to dive into this because i adored a (highly superior) book with a similar concept Lights Out. but this... was nothing like that.
while rowan was sort of likable/charming, i honestly couldn't stand sloane. there was such a huge dissonance between her when she was a killer and her when she was normal that it was completely unbelievable and unenjoyable. and her killer side was not fun to read at all.
i love morally grey characters but she was a straight up sadist. her cruelty was really uncomfortable to read. i never found myself rooting for her or interested in her in the slightest.
also, what the f**k was that plot structure?? things were just absolutely all over the place. the plot felt like a random series of events that just happened. like Rowan's restaurant? where the f**k did that come from?
and then the third act break up which was just so f**king ridiculous that i literally laughed.
and then the sex? bitch where?
overall, this book was garbage and has been filed away in my "BookTok has no sense of what makes a good book" evidence file....more

Wow, i am honestly speechless at how bad this was. i truly do not understand how this was even published in the first place let alone how it received so many positive reviews. i honestly don't care to write a nicely organized review so i will honor the chaotic immaturity of this book by just making a list of the things i hate.
*ahem*
1. Ben's job - I'm sorry, has Tessa Bailey never been to college? does she really think a 25 year old can get multiple full time professor jobs? even at my community college, to be a full time (non-adjunct) professor, a master's degree was the minimum and most had a PhD.
2. Keep it in your goddamn pants - Why was everyone in this book acting like it's some herculean feat to just not f**k each other.
3. Ben - i just... have no words. the immaturity, the selfishness, the miscommunication. it was too much for me...more

You know a book is good when you finish it beaming. I picked this up because romance.io had it listed under primal/chase play, a kink i wanted to become more familiar with (which ironically didn't end up happening until the very last chapter) but i didn't have super high expectations.
generally, the kinkier, smuttier books tend to be pretty lacking in plot. for the AO3 uninitiated, it's PWP (Porn without Plot/Plot, what plot?) most of the time, which is fine. but this. this was not that.
i was pleasantly surprised at the genuine amount of thrill, romance, and genuine laughs this book delivered.
and the sex scenes! amazing. again, usually with kinkier books (especially BDSM), the sex is pretty... brutal and, to me, cold/unfeeling. But the chemistry between Aly and Josh was incendiary.
everything about this book was so enjoyable and i am so excited to see what the author publishes in the future....more

what a shit show. kate robb, you have let me down. this concept - Pleasantville meets Teen Beach Movie should have been amazing but oh my ★2.47 stars★
what a shit show. kate robb, you have let me down. this concept - Pleasantville meets Teen Beach Movie should have been amazing but oh my god, I could not STAND Brynn who was supposed to be thirty but acted like a petulant twenty year old who was too blind to be aware of anyone around her.
I kept waiting for her to hit that aha moment characters usually hit around the 30-50% mark but we were a solid 60% in and she was still deluded and pissing me off. It was so bad that I found myself skimming to the end.
I admittedly liked the unconventional ending but overall, not a fan. Kate Robb, I love ya but I think we missed the mark a bit on this one. I'm still going to read anything you write though
