A. Knightley coming in strong with the second addition to this series. Her debut Under the Lupine Moon was enjoyable but left me wanting a bit but this novella was a much stronger entry to the Silver Rapids series.
I knew she was a gonna be a favorite of mine. Her voice really shown through in this novella. The few complaints I had with her debut were almost completely nonexistent. I had nonstop fun. The kink was so well done and OMG the cozy halloween vibes were sooooo good.
If you could package sipping on hot cider around a crackling fire place with friends as the sunsets and leaves fall around you, it would be this book.
Also, I absolutely adore her acknowledgements. With both of her titles, they truly feel like a heartfelt letter directly to the reader and it is just so endearing.
I can't wait to see what Knightley does next (Sam and Silas, I'm looking at youuuuuu!)...more

You know a book is good when you finish it beaming. I picked this up because romance.io had it listed under primal/chase play, a kink i wanted to become more familiar with (which ironically didn't end up happening until the very last chapter) but i didn't have super high expectations.
generally, the kinkier, smuttier books tend to be pretty lacking in plot. for the AO3 uninitiated, it's PWP (Porn without Plot/Plot, what plot?) most of the time, which is fine. but this. this was not that.
i was pleasantly surprised at the genuine amount of thrill, romance, and genuine laughs this book delivered.
and the sex scenes! amazing. again, usually with kinkier books (especially BDSM), the sex is pretty... brutal and, to me, cold/unfeeling. But the chemistry between Aly and Josh was incendiary.
everything about this book was so enjoyable and i am so excited to see what the author publishes in the future....more

what a shit show. kate robb, you have let me down. this concept - Pleasantville meets Teen Beach Movie should have been amazing but oh my god, I could not STAND Brynn who was supposed to be thirty but acted like a petulant twenty year old who was too blind to be aware of anyone around her.
I kept waiting for her to hit that aha moment characters usually hit around the 30-50% mark but we were a solid 60% in and she was still deluded and pissing me off. It was so bad that I found myself skimming to the end.
I admittedly liked the unconventional ending but overall, not a fan. Kate Robb, I love ya but I think we missed the mark a bit on this one. I'm still going to read anything you write though

This. Was. Everything.
The moment I read the description, I knew I had to have this book. I absolutely love werewolves and shifter romances in general. Something happened in my childhood (god knows what) that inexorably linked shifters with my sex drive so now it's a kink of mine. Cool!
Unfortunately, a lot of the werewolf romances out there are ABO (alpha, beta, omega for the uninitiated) and tend to be set in a world of pre-existing werewolf lore. While those romances are okay to read, I really like werewolves in the real world where the exploration of the lore is filled with more mystery and humor vs. the dark fantasy angst that ABO books tend to have. I also like more cozy camp and warm intimacy which Rosie Danan did perfectly in Fan Service.
She also did such an amazing job catering to the massive group of slightly bizarre writers and readers who create fandoms and fanfic. This book was such a clear love letter to all of us and the worlds we create and it warmed my heart to read.
Finally, holy heckin hell, Rosie Danan dialed the kinky up to 11. Degradation, submission, BDSM, a dash of masochism... my lustful heart was SCREAMING.
Much like a novelty ice cream, this book wasn't perfect. It could have used a few touch ups here and there, but that couldn't matter less to me. The joy it filled me with was worth every word.

Edit - WAIT A GODDAMN SECOND. It just occured to me that I could've (and should've) been imaging Devin as Jared Padalecki this whole time. Missed opportunity. I'll do it when the audiobook comes out

side thoughts (not main review) - i do think that devin should've been younger. not only was the age gap a little.... odd, he also didn't act 42 at all nor did alex act 34. They should've both been in their late 20s imo.

in all seriousness, this book hit me like a truck. what the author lacked in vocabulary*, she made up for in heart and poignancy. this book was oozing with both joy and maturity and acted like a warm balm on my jaded heart.

I had blue balls for scientific knowledge by the end of this book because it kept just barely becoming interesting and then quickly reverting back to boring.
See the problem with this book is that rather than being a well written exploration of sexology, this book served as a weird blend of memoir and meta-analysis.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the author’s life story could’ve been interesting but that’s not what I signed up for when I pick up this book. And it kept being randomly thrown in at awkward and inappropriate times.
Also, it felt like all the author did was read a bunch of research articles and Wikipedia and then compiled the data into a way too long research paper.
While I did appreciate the amoral view of sex and enjoyed some parts, this book somehow took one of the most tantalizing subjects and dried it out....more

My first draft of this review was a tad harsh but I've let my thoughts simmer and I am ready to share my thoughts with a tad less snark. So.... here weMy first draft of this review was a tad harsh but I've let my thoughts simmer and I am ready to share my thoughts with a tad less snark. So.... here we go
First, I want to start by explaining what thoughts on astrology going into (and out of) this book were. To put it simply, I don't believe in it. To clarify, I believe in stars and space, etc. but I do not believe that the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies have an influence on human affairs and behavior. (I know there is some stuff about the full moon.. and tides are a thing but you get my point)
Comparing your zodiac signs with friends is fun and all and it's enjoyable to say how accurate or inaccurate your signs are. The issue comes when it's taken with too much gravity.
I was genuinely hoping this book would be more of a Here-where-these-beliefs-came-from or fun facts type book. Unfortunately, it was not that. It was like Here's who to date, how to parent, and behave... all based on the position of stars and planet when you were born
The issue is that each sign has its own behaviors and attributes, both positive and negative which are then normalized.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is people are almost pigeonholed into behaviors because of what their sign is. With random things like, oh you're competitive. you must be a Leo. it's mostly harmless but this book mentioned so many negative behaviors and validated and even encouraged them.
It mostly happened with the Aries sign but each sign had issues. The negatives. Not only did the author continue to make generalizations, she also brought up so many negative behaviors and basically said, you have no control over this and just deal with it.
For example, she'd be like dang, aries are assholes. nothing you can do. you gotta learn to roll with it
EXCUSE ME MA'AM. It continued like this. From perfectionism and anxiety to aggression and manipulation, she just said that all of these behaviors were okay. It is not okay to validate these toxic behaviors. For any reason.
On the same note, it is frustrating that the author was stressing how many decisions you should make based on your astrology.
Overall, it's okay to have fun with astrology. It is not okay to encourage or validate toxic behaviors and harmful decisions based on it.

If you're looking for a book version of r/todayilearned, this book is for you.
I'm not totally sure why but reading random facts and stories is just so entertaining to me.
From origins of words to odd superstitions, I learned so many useless things that I'll never actually need to know. And I loved it.
I highly recommend this for any fact addict like me!
Happy reading!
