I needed more groveling, especially after what Zach did. I felt so bad for Phoenix. There is no way Zach could make up for what he did, and he didn’t work hard enough for me.
I loved Phoenix, but I didn’t love the betraying body syndrome. I also hated how Zach continued calling Emmaline his daughter and she called him “Daddy” while Phoenix was still Phoenix. I just never got the satisfying feeling that all wrongs were righted. Zach didn’t deserve Phoenix. Also, the 180 from hate to love gave me whiplash.
Despite the complaints, I enjoyed the book and couldn’t put it down. ...more

First of all, I didn’t feel like I was actually in a historical romance because the dialogue and attitudes were so modern. Secondly, I’m really not a fan of a why-choose romance, but I don’t hold it against the authorI picked this up for the Sleepy Hollow retelling aspect.
The author is super talented and creative, it’s just that several aspects just weren’t for me. Also, I felt that the plot of the second book dragged due to the gratuitous saixy times. I actually started skimming them!!!
Overall, it was a fun read, just not 100% my cuppa....more

* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: Kalos has two, ahem… and the steam… wow!
* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?: grumpy x sunshine, monsters, surprise baby, forced proximity, dead wife (one of my all-time favorite tropes)
* What did you think about the ending?: I would’ve liked a bit more groveling from Kalos, but I still loved it. I need to read the extended epilogue.
* What is your impression of the author?: Off to binge read the rest of her books!

But, I had a problem with how Eleanor didn’t seem to have ambition, never accomplished anything besides being a nanny despite being so smart, and never had a successful relationship. Meanwhile Grey must’ve been over her instantly when he met Nicole because they had kids super young and we’re head-over-heels in love.
I just felt like Eleanor deserved better, as she was always second best.

There were some inaccuracies that irked me—namely them having explicit phone sex over what would have been, historically, a party line. The sex was gratuitous and gory. The plot was interesting but I would’ve liked to have Wright made aware of the fact that Ridge didn’t do what he thought he did. I wanted to see Wright get his HEA. I’m assuming from the epilogue that he is over Sadie and has found someone else. ...more

Many aspects of this world were fascinating. These vampires eat food and walk in the sun.
I just wasn’t feeling Lucian and especially not Leah. She was one of the most immature, impulsive 40 yo characters I’ve ever read. Lucian was emotionally immature for 800-some years old!
JUSTICE FOR KATRINA! The treatment of her character really irked me. It convinced me that Lucien is a POS. Leah was even upset by it. So callous and heartless! Also, Maggie’s significance in Lucien’s life was hugely downplayed when he fell for Leah. Does Leah have magical you-know? I was really hoping Leah was Maggie reincarnated to make it make sense, but nope.
