I almost DNFI wanted to love this book, but had to suspend disbelief quite a bit. Rafferty’s behavior was horrible and he didn’t redeem himself imho. I almost DNF’ed because the author withheld way too much information to drive the “big mystery.” I HATE flashbacks as a plot device as well. 3.5 smutty stars. There was so much I loved about this book and so much I hated. First of all, both of the MC’s were absolutely terrible people. Once 3.5 smutty stars. There was so much I loved about this book and so much I hated. First of all, both of the MC’s were absolutely terrible people. Once I got past that, many elements of the plot were far-fetched to the point I had to suspend disbelief. The h was TSTL way more than not.
What did I like? There is one scene that will stick with me. I don’t want to spoil it, but it was hot and it helped me reconcile my angst a great bit after the BMU was clarified. Though Knox never truly grovels properly to Sunny....more

I don’t have much patience for high school drama, but I took a chance on this one and suspended disbelief since it’s about the ultra-wealthy spoiled kids.
Overall, it dragged a bit for me and I skimmed, but I was mostly entertained. I didn’t really feel much for the MC’s, but the drama was fun. ...more

This book has many tropes I enjoy including angsty bully romance. It had groveling too! The plot has some great twists and turns. I loved the MC’s and secondary characters. Such depth. Great world building and intrigue. Read it!...more

* How did the book make you feel?: The first 3/4 of this book was 5 stars. I was rooting for her fated mate to redeem himself and fix the bond, but the story took a disappointing turn. It was still an excellent book.
* How do you feel about how the story was told?: I loved this author’s handling of shifter packs and hierarchy. I loved the main and supporting characters. The banter was witty and the plot was well-paced.
* What did you think about the main characters?: I loved Mave. She had backbone and she was pragmatic and comfortable in her skin. Her brother Ben stole the show. He was fabulous. Knox was one-dimensional and gross sex fiend. He was supposedly a good person but didn’t show any sort of character development. We were just told he improved in every way near the end of the story. I found Blake boring. IRL of course I would’ve chosen him over Knox, but he was a perfect feminist mage and I needed angst over happiness for the MC’s, dang it! Also the magic being able to break a bond and make everything OK and peachy for a HEA was just way too convenient.
* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: I loved Knox’s rejection of Mave. I just knew I was in for a angst fest but I ended up sorely disappointed because I went in blind.
* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?: rejected mate
* What did you think about the ending?: It was just too convenient and sweet. I skipped a lot of the MC’s sexy scenes together because they bored me to death.
* What is your impression of the author?: Lots of talent here and I love her world building.

This book starts out with a huge trigger—rape in an empty classroom. There is also slut-shaming and bullying. I like dark romances so I was hooked at first, but then the story’s pacing became a bit too slow for me. The seemingly-unredeemable H gets redeemed in the end and there’s an implausible HEA. I was never convinced that Carter wasn’t a sociopath. Zoey’s inner monologues were so repetitive and got on my nerves.
[image] This story was a bit monotonous and I generally have a hard time with books with high school settings. High school is too YA for me and I don’t credit high schoolers with too much emotional intelligence because their frontal lobes aren’t fully developed. Carter has a sad backstory but it doesn’t really justify his behavior. Zoey thinks she’s a shrink and psychoanalyzes Carter. She second-guesses everything and everyone during her inner monologues throughout the entire book. I don’t like inner monologues too much, I guess. I will look for more from this author because the beginning of this book was promising. The beginning was dark but the rest of the book wasn’t really that dark imho....more

I get that it’s meant to be controversial and uncomfortable but it was very repetitive and gratuitous. I despised the heroine. She played games and got herself into stupid situations because she was immature and impulsive. The love triangle was gross. Prince Aleksey deserved better. He was always there for her, saved her multiple times and all she did was act selfish and crazy. She kept dangling a man who called her his ex-fiancée’s name in Aleksey’s face! She was not worth his trouble. She had green eyes. Woo. She was also an entitled brat who didn’t deserve him.

THE HYMEN IS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BODY. Do your anatomical research. You can see the hymen. Why would you need a man to break your hymen, anyway? Her sister had a point with the carrot. Ummm tampon? Those twins were two different ages? I was perplexed. Azalea came across as a teenager and her brother came off as a little kid.

This dystopian world sounds like a nightmare. It was all about the sex and only the sex, and the disgusting rapes. It could’ve been executed better. It had a potentially-fascinating premise. I don’t understand all the good reviews.
