Again a very well written story about Whyborne and Griffin. Although I have to admit that, in my opinion, this was the weakest installment of the story. For my Whyborne was slightly exhausting in this one. I mean, I can understand why he feels the way he feels, on the other hand, I feel like he should know Griffin better by now. What I found fascinating is how these two men saw the same think from a completely different point of view. I really liked that. I loved Christine and Iskander, as always, and I really liked how Griffins relationship played out. Well, I didn't exactly like it, but it felt very believable. I am totally looking forward to the next book. Hopefully again narrated by Julian G. Simmons. He is amazing and I would totally miss him if he wouldn't lend Griffin and especially Whyborne his voice. And I would totally miss him saying 'Die unaussprechlichen Kulte'. It's so adorable! :)...more

The arguments between Whyborne and Griffin felt very real, even if I could've throddled them both constantly. The scence at the Abbott's house had been so heartbreaking. I gripped my steering wheel rather forcefully during the showdown. I expected a lot from it and I wasn't disappointed. And the last scence... oh my god! I squeed and grinned and actually teared up a little bit. It was so cute and beautiful! Maybe, one day, I will write a more proper review but these are my thoughts for now. A great installment! ...more

Hawk through her Whyborne & Griffin series I still thought I'd give it a try and I wasn't disappointed. The story was gripping and interesting and not as scary as I'd expected it to be although it did send shivers down my spine every now and again. I really loved the characters. Vincent and Henry were great and the flirting between them had me smiling a lot, while shaking my head about how awfull they were. The secondary characters were great as well, especially Jo and Lizzy. Both of them had me laughin out loud on occasions and let me tell you, the revealing about Lizzy? I so didn't see that one coming! Nicely done. I was a bit disappointed with Henry though. He really did a shitty thing, even if I understand where he came from and why he was so angry and did something stupid because of his anger. I still could've slapped him, repeatedly. At times the story was a bit too predictable for my taste, but it was still a gripping tale that kept me awake half the night.
4.5 stars from me and I will definitely read the second installment....more

I loved them both and the secondary characters were great as well. It was fast paced and the ending was very exciting. The story clearly was a five star read for me. I have to give one star less though because of the narration. Actually I liked Tristan James's voice and I really liked the way he read Tom and Domenic for example. I totally couldn't get into the way he read Cicero though and he kept confusing the accents which was a bit trying at times. So I definitely have to get the book and read it. Definitely a series that I will read the reat of as well. ...more

As always, it had a couple of hilarious scences. Like the one with Daphne and Whyborne in the tent, that had me laugh out loud, and some tender moments that made me smile and sigh. Whyborne, Griffin and Christine are so great together. They really are a little family of their own. The ending was really sad in parts but of course everything turned out allright. So far, definitely my favourite installment of the series. ...more

In the end, I'm glad I did because I really liked it. It was a gripping story and I even sacrificed my sleep for that. ;) Altough I like my stories fast paced, this one was a bit too fast for my taste at times. The investigation of the case fell a bit flat and the solution was a tad too easy for my taste. I missed a bit more drama and more struggle in the end. What felt also a bit too fast, was the development of Vic's and Jacob's relationship. Everything felt a bit rushed for me. It still was a great book. Very well written with very likable characters and I am looking forward to read more of them. ...more

As I was looking for a book that I could listen to while driving to work, I decided to try to read/hear the rest and for that, I started with Widdershins again to get back into the story. I still love it. The characters are great, I instantly fell in love with Whyborne all over again, and the atmosphere is so dark and palpable it's just amazing. I had a tough time getting used to the narrator. For the first few chapters I thought, I'd never get used to him, but slowly I did and I started to love the way he read, and actually acted the different parts. When he whispered I had hot and cold shivers running down my spine and he added to creat that dark atmosphere that had me shuddering or gripping the steering wheel a bit tighter. It's highly recommended and I think, I will have the secons one as audioversion as well. ...more
