When I discoveI have enjoyed reading the Gray Man Series by Mark Greaney over these past many years. I have found Greaney to be a master storyteller. When I discovered he came out with a new book that might become a series, I bought it immediately. My first surprise was the audiobook format. It was in the form of a play with many actors and sound effects. The book took me back to memories of my youth listening to radio shows. Only in those days the soundman was king. Not so in this book. The sound effects were poorly done.
The story was interesting about a military veteran, Joshua Duffy, that became a close protection agent. Also key to the story was his wife who was a retired Army Apache helicopter pilot. The story takes place in Mexico. If this does become a series, I will read it.

I have been looking for some more to replace them. With the mood I have been in lately, I don’t want to read anything that requires thinking. I just want to be entertained. I thought I would give the USS Hamilton series by Mark Wayne McGinnis a try. He is a new author for me.
The story is fast paced; the characters are interesting. The story has a bit of everything from space battles, a murder mystery, aliens, ships with AI’s operating them, an unusual seven-foot humanoid AI robot and some humor tossed in. The first-person narrative works quite well in this story. I will try book two of the series.
I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is nine hours and fifty-five minutes. James Patrick Cronin does a good job narrating the book. The Marshall sends Jensen out on assignment to various parts of the territory to either apprehend a felon or assist a county sheriff. I found the discussion about legal jurisdictional differences between states and territories most interesting. I then looked up the information and found the book to be correct. Great way to learn new information as part of an interesting story.

I respect her as a gracious loser in the presidential campaign. She behaved in what is now an old fashion manner. I enjoy reading Warren’s books as she is an excellent writer. She is concise and to the point. The book was a nice review of Warren’s plans and goals; but, if I had realized the book was mostly a review of her message, I would have skipped it as I am familiar with the content.

The I enjoyed reading Sunny Hostin’s memoir. I knew very little about Sunny Hostin before reading this book. I had seen her a few times on television.
The book is well written. SH describes her life growing up in the tenements of the Bronx as well as difficulties of being mixed race. She goes into great detail about her pregnancies as well as her career as a federal prosecutor and T.V. legal analyst. The book did provide me with a better understand of what it is like to be mixed race (Black/Latina) in the United States. Sunny Hostin’s intelligence, ambition and her parents’ sacrifices allowed her to escape from poverty

He died five months after his wife died of breast cancer. I was surprised to discover that so much of Dillard’s life followed that of the author. When reading about Caroline’s (Dillard’s wife) battle with breast cancer in book it had a ring of truth. Now I know he was writing from his own experience. Like Dillard, he also had two children a boy and girl.
This book felt like it was taken right out of today’s headline. The story has to do with three black university football players accused of raping a white female exotic dancer. In the story the Klan and a militant black group start fighting. The book is well written and is fast moving. I shall have to check and be sure I have read all of Pratt’s books then I am going to hunt for another legal thriller author to read.

This is a historical fiction that takes place in London in 1939 to 1941. I have a personal interest in the London Blitz as most of my mother’s family died when a bomb hit their house in London.
This is a story about ordinary people rising to the occasion and managing through adversity. They helped their neighbors and did what the English have always done calmly carrying on through it all. This is also a story about the power of books and the importance of a local bookshop. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.

The book is well written. Most of the regular characters have returned along with some new ones. The story gets off to a slow start dealing with the politics of the Alliance. The story picks up from where Leviathan left off after the battle with the rouge AI fleet. In this story Geary is off to Midway Star System and then into alien space in hunt for the Dancer’s home. Alexander McCall Smith has managed to bring to life the culture of Botswana. The characters are unique as is Smith’s writing style. After book one I switched to the audiobook version to fully enjoy the proper pronunciations of the names and enjoy the Botswana accents.
The book is well written. The plot twists and turns, the characters are delightful, but it is the underlying philosophical lessons I enjoy the most. Sometimes, depending on my mood, Smith’s meandering writing style annoys me but most often I find it amusing.

I particularly find it more realistic because of the family problems Dillard faces, such as his wife’s breast cancer, his sister’s addiction; and, to offset the bad with good, the success of his children.
The book is well written, the story moves fast as the book is short. My only negative comment is personal one; I am just burned out on the topic of serial killers. The book is well written and easy to read. Duckworth tells of her love of the Army and identity as a soldier and helicopter pilot. Her struggle with a loss of identity when she could no longer fly after losing both her legs and severely injuring her right arm when shot down in Iraq. The book primarily covers her life from birth in Thailand to her election as senator. I am impressed with her ability and determination to obtain her Ph.D. in spite of all the obstacles. She appears to be highly motivated to help veterans and her fellow citizens. I hope she writes a book about her life as a senator. We need more people like her in government.
