It is great to see a colonial officer presented in a Royal Navy Story. The fall of Minorca and the disgrace of Admiral Byng is a familiar story. The author has done meticulous research to have the story as accurate as possible. The author, Chris Durban, is an excellent historical story-teller. I am looking forward to the next installment.

Deutermann and have read all of his WWII Naval Series. I thoroughly enjoy reading historical novels and often will go and read up on the historical event after finishing the novel.
The book is the story of the final battle of the USS Franklin, nicknamed the “Big Ben”. The aircraft carrier USS Franklin’s last battle was on March 19, 1945 off the coast of Japan. She earned the title “The most damaged aircraft carrier that survived”.
Deutermann’s novel provides the view from the sailors on board the Franklin during the March 19, 1945 battle. Some characters are fictional and some like “Father Jo”, Lieutenant Commander Joseph T. O’Callaghan, tell of his actions for which he received the Medal of Honor. Also real is Lieutenant J.G. Donald A. Gray who found and led to safety 300 men from inside the burning ship. Gray also received the Medal of Honor. Deutermann’s story allows the reader some understanding of the extreme battle for survival the men of the Franklin endured.

When I discoveI have enjoyed reading the Gray Man Series by Mark Greaney over these past many years. I have found Greaney to be a master storyteller. When I discovered he came out with a new book that might become a series, I bought it immediately. My first surprise was the audiobook format. It was in the form of a play with many actors and sound effects. The book took me back to memories of my youth listening to radio shows. Only in those days the soundman was king. Not so in this book. The sound effects were poorly done.
The story was interesting about a military veteran, Joshua Duffy, that became a close protection agent. Also key to the story was his wife who was a retired Army Apache helicopter pilot. The story takes place in Mexico. If this does become a series, I will read it.

The book is well written and researched. I enjoyed the various information about sailing. My only complaint was the battles were cut short and jumped to the after events too rapidly. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed sailing the Pacific with Drinkwater off the coast of Spanish California.

The book is well written and researchedThis is another exciting historical naval novel about one of my favorite times in history, The Napoleonic Wars.
The book is well written and researched. The book starts in the summer of 1804 with Napoleon massing an invasion force to invade England. Our protagonist, Captain Nathaniel Drinkwater, of the HMS Antigone is on blockade duty off of Cadis. The book ends with the Battle of Trafalgar.
The story is easy to read and covers a lot of information in its 209 pages. If you are interested in this period of history, you will enjoy this book. I want to thank my Goodreads’ friend, David Eppenstein, for introducing me to Richard Woodman’s books and for providing me with some of his books.

It is different than the prior Nathaniel Drinkwater books. I thought the information about the whaling ships off Greenland was fascinating. Our protagonist, Nathaniel Drinkwater, was assigned a French built yacht to protect the whalers from French privateers during the Napoleonic Wars. The problems he had sailing a ship not built for the ice were interesting. Toward the end of the book, there is battle action with French privateers.

The book is well written and researched. I am reading the series out of order, but find each book is a good stand-alone. Woodman does very little rehashing of old material. In this book Admiral Nelson has sent Lieutenant Nathaniel Drinkwater to the Red Sea with a warning to the British Squadron about Napoleon’s Egyptian Campaign. The Egyptian action begins. Woodman does a good job painting a picture of what life was like in the Royal Navy in the early 1800s. If you are interested in naval stories of this era, I highly recommend this book.

I have read a number of Deutermann’s books and have enjoyed them all. The author takes a historical situation and inserts his fictional characters and, of course, he takes some liberties with facts. The book is well written and fast paced. There is good character and plot development. The author provides a picture of what the medical and nursing corps dealt with during WWII. I recommend this book to all WWII fans.

This story is about the “Battle for the Atlantic” during WWII. The protagonist is Commander George Krause in command of a convoy crossing the Atlantic on the way to England. The convoy is being hunted by a wolf pack of German U-Boats. There is a lot of nail-biting action with destroyers and corvettes hunting the stalking wolfpack. Forester served aboard a destroyer during World War II. I am sure his experiences add to the realistic feel of the story.
