That's how I felt entering this crazy modern day world where "Enchants" live among the "mundane;" where princesses and are reincarnated regardless of gender; and where true love still conquers all. At least for a little while until the evil Witchking returns.

Regardless, both MCs grew on me. One is Adrian, a staid accountant who is hurting from a cruel breakup. He is very insecure from the harsh words his cheating boyfriend delivered. His insecurities and low self-esteem get repetitive at times, but still work for this character. The other MC, Wyatt, is a mysterious giant, tattooed, drifting stranger who Adrian can't get out of his head. I can't get Wyatt out of my mind either!
There's a bit of a mystery here in regards to Wyatt's past, Adrian's work, and a tinted four-door sedan. The plot points work well enough, even if they are a bit contrived....but hey, suspend all disbelief and you're golden for this one!
The sex between the two was steamy, although it slacked off in the later half of the book in favor of plot/mystery/action. The writing was consistent, good, but not outstanding.
There's an HEA with a lovely figurative slap-to-the-face to Adrian's ex. All in all, a quick, satisfying read.

I was sooo ready and wanting to like this story! Sci-fi, prisoner/captive, alien race, blood drinkers, assassins, royalty, a planet blanketed in darkness, a mad king. Come on...it should have worked.
Instead, I got simplistic writing and often overly dramatic dialogue. It was so frustrating! The story was there, but the author couldn’t bring it to light...at least not enough for me.
Sure, there were some hot sex scenes, but we are dealing with aliens humanoid species here (who all seems to have a prostate, by the way). Why not give them something more interesting than fangs and eye color? There was a lot of missed opportunity here, my friends, and that makes me sad.
I simply wanted more than this book delivered.
This is only my second read by MA Church, and I enjoyed her first one quite a bit. Now I’m not so willing to pick up any more bearing her name.
My recommendation: read at your own risk.
