One thing I love about this series is how each brother's romantic timeline varies just enough. Garrett isn't looking for love. He is fairly on the side of 'not worth the effort' but he also isn't extremely hard headed once the romance presents itself as potentially life changing. I loved how he was with his family and his son. He shows he's the boy scout while also accepting he can't control everything and get it all right. I was SO frustrated at some of the turns coming for him but obviously it worked out in the end.
Harper was so refreshing. She was light-hearted but also took things seriously. She has her silly reasons for some things but doesn't become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Her relationship with Owen and the wives was fun and impactful. She got a lot of closure in this book and I was happy for it.
I love how the suspense is playing out in these books. This one was frustrating (on behalf of the characters) and there are some red herrings. Above it all, the plot and romance are balanced. I hate a romantic suspense that sacrifices either for the other, so this was great!...more

She writes fantastic paranormal and romantic suspense books. Alas, not every work can be 'the best'. For me, this one ranked lower than most of her. There isn't much suspense because we know the killer and whats happening from alot of villian POV sections. And the romance wasn't really there either. Both leads longingly stare at the other but not alot happens on paper. One scene very early faded to black so we don't really get any glimpse of them 'together' before the chaos of 'suspense' but boom HEA.
I really really hope Adeline and Mac are getting the next book. Our girl needs some love in her life and I can see these two lighting up the pages. Just not so much push as this read, yea?

Like all the other books before this one, I enjoyed what was there, but still missed what wasn't. The romance isn't priority. This time Dom is very accepting of anything Bailey wants or needs. He is pretty gentle and soft all over for her. The love emotions and words happen pretty quickly so you get to see it playing out, but it was just so fast.
The mystery was twisted and okay. ALOT of dead bodies here. And I don't remember if we are given as much insight into the town previously, but I can't imagine anyone or anything living here with the ghost-town description. ...more

Reese pushes Cash away some, but not obnoxiously so.
The mystery was fairly straight forward. the good guys win, the bad guys don't.
I look forward to seeing how Adalyn and Rowan play out. We started to see their tension here and it looks good....more

As a longtime reader of this, I know that going in and an no longer surprised, but will always be a bit disappointed.
The story is good. It has alot of twists and turns. For a while we lose focus on the original murder for the sake of the current events of the book, but it eventually all comes together. Its very complicated and not easy to guess. Definitely far fetched.
A couple of mentions of Zac, the sheriff from the last book, but otherwise no connections to other books in the series. ...more

Was it a good read? Yes, I liked the story, the characters were decent. I didn't love the pacing, I found it somewhat slow. Was this an enjoyable read? Not really. I got this book for free with a blurb from a newsletter. The blurb never mentioned it was a series. The amazon blurb does say its a standalone in a series. I could not understand how it was a standalone. These characters have already met, have already circled a bit and we are dropped in from there. I didn't even know who our female lead was until she showed up a second time. King, the father figure of the Lost Brothers, was just dropped in with no information so I had no idea if he was a bad guy or an anti hero. I spent so much time trying to connect references, the book lost some of it goodness.
Moon is typical 'I don't want you but I'll control all your safety measures regardless of your upset'. Josie was a good female to push back in his face what his behavior does to her. ...more

It's obviously the beginning of more for FBI Agent Laurel Snow so maybe we'll get a better balance in later books.
The mystery was good. The word building is always good. There are alot of red herrings and a baddie or two left over for another day. Laurel was very literal without being too dry. Watching her stumble was cringeworthy. I like that her family was supportive of her. ...more
