I really liked the story, the scene/world building, the mythology, and the historical ties to the plot. It was all very interesting and kept my attention without detracting too much from the plot.
My aggravations with this book stem from Rin and her constantly changing mind. I’m all for a character making bad decisions, whether they learn a lesson or they’re just a bad guy- it’s fine either way. But Rin doesn’t just make poor choices (in my opinion). She thinks things through- a lot. Really agonizes over whether she should listen to her master or her commander; her head or her heart (temper might be a better word). And she ultimately decides one thing, then two pages later turns around and seemingly does the opposite- the choice she decided against. It just felt like I was constantly being hit in the face with Rin’s complete 180° change of course.
Otherwise I thought it was a great read and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the trilogy. (Just hoping Rin starts actually sticking to her future decisions in the next.)...more

Lili is back in Heaven with her father, separated from her demons, and has a huge bomb dropped on her- she is the Balance created to stop the war between Heaven and Hell.
In this book we see Lili struggle with her newly realized powers and more importantly her trauma. The betrayal she experienced at the hands of Gabriel, was definitely addressed- quite a bit- in the first book, but the true effect it had on her was really explored more thoroughly in this story. Lili is scared and on edge in Heaven, unable to trust anyone, and yearning for her home and her guys in Hell. But the addition of a few new characters in this book help her to heal just a bit and begin to trust her instincts again.
I really like Mal, Lili's friend who we get to meet in this book. She is fiercely loyal and protective- and ready to kick Gabriel's butt for her bestie! I also enjoyed Israfel, an angel from Lili's childhood who never forgot her. We don't get to see him as much towards the end of the book, but from what we do see of him I liked. His flirty attitude masks a more serious and caring personality, and I am very curious about his past with a certain someone in Hell ;). It looks like he's being set up as an addition to Lili's harem and I am definitely not complaining!
This book also provides a deeper look into the politics in Heaven, mainly the council, and a greater look at the gods. Lili may be separated from Luc, Cerny, Bernard, and Russ, but that doesn't mean she or the guys had any dull moments. While Lili was stuck dealing with heavenly a**holes, Cerberus was learning a bit more about themselves and the mysterious gods.
This book ends on one heck of a cliffy- even worse than the last book's! Lili and the guys definitely have a lot on their plate in this next book, but based on how amazingly Crowned By Hell followed Cast From Heaven, I just know that book 3- Called By Gods- will be the best one yet!...more

Okay so to be honest when I started reading this book I wasn't really all that into it. I enjoy the general story and these gods the author has created are quite unique, but something just wasn't really clicking for me. I liked the first book so I was trying to get into the second but it just seemed to fall flat. But wow by the time I got to the end of this story that opinion had changed. The last few chapters of this book really pulled me back in to the story.
Karma learns the truth about her family and the higher gods when they are all pulled into the gods' sick games. With Storm, Killian, and Seth by her side, Karma is able to remain strong in the face of these challenges. But in the end it is up to Karma and her powers to protect herself and those she loves and let's just say that when it comes for you- karma's a b*tch!
The ending of the book (like I said above) really changed things for me. It really grabbed my attention and showed Karma to be the tough kick butt goddess I knew she was. And of course the author drops a killer cliffhanger for us that definitely got my interest! I hope the next book continues to keep me invested in this series because it truly is a fun and unique world that G. Bailey has created. I look forward to reading more....more
A Name Like Karma is a fun and exciting story about a unique group of gods.
Karma is just as her name suggests, a goddess of Karma. She and her family A Name Like Karma is a fun and exciting story about a unique group of gods.
Karma is just as her name suggests, a goddess of Karma. She and her family dole out karma to those who deserve it, good and bad. As a minor goddess her powers are limited, until she somehow accidentally kills a higher god. With Seth and Killian, the twin gods of justice now after her, Karma goes on the run as her life is changed forever.
The Secret Gods is an exciting new series that introduces us to a new set of gods that live by their own set of rules. I love the creation of the prison and how it has become a somewhat peaceful community, despite its intention of being a lock up for criminal gods and goddesses.
Karma is a fun character who, despite her many hilarious mistakes and shenanigans, has a very good heart. Her goblin Kit is a fun sidekick who loves to eat more than anything! I enjoyed Seth and Killian, especially getting to know them a little more as the story went on, but I think Storm might be my favorite guy in this one.
The cliffhanger this ends on is a toughy, and I can't wait to find out what happens to Karma next, and how Seth, Killian, and Storm will deal with their conflicting emotions....more

It is the first in a new series of standalone stories that will feature the once dying Gargoyles and the Monsters needed to help their species survive.
I loved the way this author portrayed Medusa. She is a tough woman who has survived many horrors in her two thousand some years. She is lonely and has experienced a lot of heartbreak, but still retains her humanity and respect for human life. No matter the bad that she has unintentionally committed and the fear and disgust she is shown by everyone, Medusa continues to strive to be a good person.
When she is kidnapped by a group of Gargoyles, she doesn't expect to come out of this unscathed. With the help of the trials they need Medusa to endure, their initial hatred gradually turns to understanding and acceptance and later to love. For centuries they have understood monsters to be evil and creatures to be destroyed, but what happens when they are faced with a monster who was forced into her circumstances and still fought to be good, despite what those around her did? With the help of Medusa, the monster they originally planned to kill, Byron, Harold, Forrest, and Marcus gain the ability to save the future of the Gargoyles.
This story was a fun and steamy read that I couldn't put down! I loved all of the interactions between Medusa and her gargoyles, watching them go from hated attraction to becoming a family. I also appreciated that the author didn't shy away from some of the darker aspects of Medusa's history. Medusa is forced to face her past rape and punishment by the gods and the torture she endured for centuries by the "heroes" who tried to kill her for glory. But while these important aspects of her past are brought up to help understand Medusa, the story is not consumed by this dark past but instead focuses on a brighter future.
As a classicist I am always intrigued by mythology and love to read authors' retellings of classic tales. This combination of myth and one of my favorite romance genres- reverse harem- created a fantastic story. I can't wait to read more of this series and see more reimagined mythological monsters find the HEA that they never could in their original stories! ...more

I love G. Bailey and Coralee June so so much. They are both incredibly talented authors who have yet to disappoint me with their work. But for some reason (I think I'm in a bit of a book slump right now) I wasn't overly excited about this book. But, after reading this book I am kicking myself for waiting so long!
Eternal Soul combines some of my favorite elements into an amazing story. I am a huge mythology geek (which is why I'm about to graduate with a degree in Classics) and I love pretty much any genre of reverse harem, so this book was practically made for me! I loved the twists on common god myths and the combination of both greek and norse mythology (two of my favs!).
Helena is a complicated character. On the one hand she is just a shy college girl with too much on her plate, but on the other she is the goddess of death, Hela. When these two aspects of her being come to light, Helena's entire world changes as she struggles to remember the destructive goddess she used to be while still holding onto her humanity.
I really loved this story. I especially loved the gods chosen to be in Helena's harem. Poseidon (Dylan), Hades (Clay), and Loki have always been a few of my favorite gods from mythology, and Apollo (Alec) is quickly becoming another based on his character in this story! I'm not sure why some of the gods have modern names while others maintain their originals (probably because Loki is a little easier to accept in modern society than Hades or Poseidon), but I liked that they have different identities.
Eternal Soul is an exciting adventure where the characters are not quite what we're expecting. The various roles of the gods were a great twists, with villains that I never would have expected, and I like the other elements such as the creators and other planets.
Eternal Soul is a reverse harem that takes mythology to another level as these authors make ancient themes completely their own to create a unique and exciting story that I am eager to continue!...more
A Court of Fire and Metal, book 2 in the War of the Gods series, is even better than the first! This series is definitely one of my new favorites as CA Court of Fire and Metal, book 2 in the War of the Gods series, is even better than the first! This series is definitely one of my new favorites as Cass's story just gets more complex and exciting with every new page I read.
Cass is really growing into herself. She is no longer the girl locked in a cage by her abusive mother but a woman surrounded by four overprotective men who want her to save the world. She goes to the academy to learn how to use her powers at the place where everyone who wants to fight against the gods is learning and training. The academy is home to supernaturals and humans alike and Cass gets a chance to make a friend, as well as some new enemies. But someone at the academy is not who they say they are, which might just be disastrous for Cass.
Cass and the guys really get to know each other better in this book. From the beginning, their fated bond has drawn them together, but this book shows them getting closer emotionally and really growing their relationship past the physical.... but there is definitely still lots of steam.
This book ends in a tough place for Cass. This is quite the cliffhanger and if I wasn't so in love with this story I'd probably be upset lol. Seriously desperate for book 3 now, I can't wait!...more

It kept popping up in my facebook groups and looked interesting but I never really got the urge to read. But once I saw it was on kindle unlimited I thought eh lets give it a shot. And wow am I glad I did. This book seriously exceeded any expectations I thought I had!
Cassandra has been locked away in a cage and abused by her mother her entire life. Told that she is a dangerous monster and cannot be let out, Cass has never stopped fighting to be free. Until one day the door opens *is kicked down* and instead of her mom, a vampire and a panther she's never seen before walk in and set her free. Everything as she knew it changes in a moment. All Cass wants is to be free, but can she when these creatures want her to be some big weapon in a war she wants nothing to do with?
This book has everything a fantasy lover could want. There's creatures of every kind: vampires, fae, shifters, gods; magic, different worlds/realms, and some romance and steam. There's something for everyone here which I really enjoyed!
I also wanted to address the fact that Cass is only fifteen. I read a ton of bad reviews based on this fact alone. But she isn't human. She is not an adolescent but a powerful creature who reached maturity years before. She is fully grown and not a child. You can't read this thinking of her in human terms. As it's explained in the book, she is fully mature, and the other gods in the story reach maturity at the age of 2. While she isn't fully a god, we don't really know what she is, she is definitely no ordinary human so please don't disregard this book because she is more than human and should be understood under different rules. She is a woman, not a little girl.
A Court of Blood and Void is a seriously amazing story. I loved this book and cannot wait for book 2! Meg Xuemei X is a new author for me and definitely one I will look to for future books....more
