Sin embargo, y aunque pueda parecerlo, este libro no consiste únicamente en los cotilleos y romances fortuitos de una mujer con dinero y fama. Es mucho más que eso. Este libro habla de una mujer que ha hecho todo lo necesario para sobrevivir y por tener algo propio. Una mujer que se ha esforzado y ha dado todo cuanto tenía para crear la vida que deseaba. Este libro habla de amistad, de amor y del precio de la fama entre otros temas bastante profundos que prefiero no mencionar para evitar spoilers.
La historia engancha desde prácticamente el comienzo. El relato de Evelyn sumerge al lector de inmediato en la historia de su vida. Me ha gustado mucho el hecho de que Evelyn no era un personaje ni blanco ni negro (de hecho ningún personaje lo era), todos tenían sus cosas buenas y sus cosas malas. En definitiva los personajes son humanos. El libro desmitifica bastante a un "ídolo", la fama y lo que desde fuera parece una vida perfecta.
Me gusta que haya representación en la historia. Comenzando por el hecho de que la periodista encargada de escribir la biografía de Evelyn es mestiza. La propia Evelyn es cubana. Hay personajes LGBT. Habla de la sexualización de la mujer en los medios.
En definitiva me ha parecido un libro muy cuidado, muy tierno. Lo recomiendo mucho.
Escuché el audiolibro en inglés y me gustó mucho cómo estaba narrado así que también lo recomiendo.

Lo primero que quiero mencionar es la razón por la cual he dejado de escucharlo y es que quiero hacer un Trigger Warning porque el libro menciona autolesiones. (No voy a decir cuando ni quién ni donde para no hacer spoilers). El caso es que me estaba haciendo sentir mal y no me gusta leer sobre este tema cuando lo mencionan repetidamente así que por ese motivo he decidido dejarlo.
Cuando terminé La Reina del Tearling no pensaba seguir con la saga porque el libro no me gustó demasiado y, aunque la idea me pareció interesante, el libro en sí me pareció aburrido. Pero como se ha hablado mucho de la saga finalmente me entró la curiosidad y al encontrar este libro rebajado en formato audiolibro me dije que no tenía nada que perder.
El principio no me gustó. Me seguía pareciendo aburrido. Y cuando aparece Lilly (no estoy segura de cómo escriben el nombre en el libro ya que escuché el audiolibro) no entendía qué tenía que ver y me parecía que nada tenía sentido. Sin embargo más adelante empieza a cobrar sentido y logró suscitar mi curiosidad sobre la relación que guardaban todas estas historias.
En conclusión, el libro me estaba empezando a interesar y me estaba interesando algo más que el primero. Pero he tenido que dejar de leerlo por los motivos que explico más arriba....more

Entiendo por qué decían que este era un buen audiolibro: el hecho de que esté en formato entradas de un diario lo hace muy adecuado para este formato.
Sin embargo hay cosas que no terminaron de convencerme. Hablaba de muchos términos de la NASA, de física, química... Hablaba de muchas cosas sobre las cual un lector común sin demasiada formación en estos ámbitos (por ejemplo yo, que sé algo de física pero no a nivel de la NASA) no sabe demasiado. Así que simplemente hay que asumir que algunas cosas que el libro dice que son así son así. Y punto. Hay que dar por hecho que lo que dicen es realista, que cuando pretenden hacer ciertas operaciones esto es posible porque nos dicen que lo es. Y no sé, llamadme quisquillosa, pero a mí eso no me gusta. Entiendo que el fallo no es del libro, sino que yo desconozco esas cosas. Pero al ser un libro para el público general y al explicarnos con tanto detalle todo lo que hacen, el hecho de que la mayor parte del tiempo no sepa si lo que me están diciendo es verdad o no, me resulta poco conveniente (o mucho, no lo sé).
Pero en definitiva es un libro que me ha gustado y recomiendo teniendo en cuenta esto....more

3.75* en realidad. Escuché el audiolibro de este libro y he de decir que me ha gustado mucho. El audiolibro está muy bien narrado y en ningún momento m3.75* en realidad. El audiolibro está muy bien narrado y en ningún momento me ha hecho sentir incómoda como me ha pasado con otros audiolibros juveniles. Normalmente solo escucho los audiolibros cuando voy en el coche pero con este estaba tan enganchada que aprovechaba cualquier momento para escucharlo. Es una de esas historias que hacen que necesites saber lo que va a pasar a continuación.
La historia empieza presentándonos a las personajes principales y cómo van a hacer una 'sesión' para hablar con los muertos a una granja abandonada. Con ese principio a mí ya me atrapó y supe que seguramente me iba a gustar la historia. Poco después Bailey, una de las chicas, desaparece. A partir de ahí se desata toda la historia en la que todos guardan secretos y tratan de descubrir qué pasó con Bailey.
Me ha resultado muy interesante. Los personajes eran bastante complejos, aunque es cierto que este aspecto no se explora tanto como me hubiese gustado. Desde el principio de la historia te das cuenta de que Casey y sus amigas tienen una amistad muy tóxica y conforme progresa la historia vas comprendiendo los motivos de cada una para mantener esa amistad.
En ciertos momentos me ha recordado de alguna forma a Pretty Little Liars (Pequeñas mentirosas). No es que la historia se parezca en sí pero supongo que es el conjunto de suspense juvenil mezclado con el instituto y sus rumores y que todos los personajes parecen guardar secretos y mentir.
Me gusta en las historias (sobre todo las de suspense o misterio) cuando al principio nos presentan a los personajes de una manera y luego poco a poco nos damos cuenta de todo lo que ocultan. También me gusta que nos presenten el punto de vista de un personaje respecto a las cosas pero claro, la visión de ese personaje es parcial y hay cosas que no sabe, e ir descubriendo esas cosas poco a poco.
También me ha resultado interesante el hecho de que mezclasen lo que había pasado realmente con las leyendas sobre 'la mujer roja' y que a veces te hagan dudar de qué es real.
El final no me ha terminado de convencer. Aunque todo el libro parecía indicar que iba a darle 4 estrellas, el final me ha hecho bajarle un poco la nota. Me parece que no está del todo bien argumentado, que hay muchas cosas que se quedan en el aire. Me hubiese gustado que explicasen mejor esa parte, no me ha resultado muy convincente. ¿Y el epílogo? No dura casi pero ha sido el único trozo de la novela en el que estaba deseando que se terminase porque no me interesaba, lo alargan innecesariamente.
