Book 3 in the threshold series was okay in my opinion. It is not really connected to the other 3 volumes. I didn't know this was written in 1940 when I started, but it was obvious that it was an old tome somewhat soon. I really like the old explorer time period (like when the first Mummy movie was set), so I still enjoyed that aspect of the novel. I did not appreciate the ending... In my opinion, it has a very solid plot. I would have ended it differently.

As these stories serve as backgrounds to characters in the Arkham Horror card game, they do a good job of providing the right depth of information for main characters. In this one, we follow Chester's descent through the eyes of a beloved friend. The power of words mixed in with elder gods.
