If it weren't for the fact that I had nothing to read on the train, I probably would have dnfed it. I made it to the end, but this book seemed completely different to all the ones I've read by this author so far. I usually like J.T. Geissinger stories as they always make me laugh because they're so unserious that they're funny, but I didn't connect with the characters and story here at all. This was one of my most anticipated reads this month, but I end up hating it. The blurb and the tropes seemed intriguing, but the execution? It was a mess.
Let's get to the point though. Why didn't this book work out for me. The spoilers also start here.
I read books by this author mainly for one reason. Obsessed heroes who would move the Earth to be with the heroine. Not the other way around, because let's be honest, a heroine practically begging the hero to be with her and take her to bed is not something I think most people want to read about.
“Don’t make me beg. This is embarrassing.”
Yeah IT IS EMBARRASSING. You should never beg a men. There will be the next, better one who will do anything for you. So why bother? Our heroine, Shay, did just that. More than once, so if you thought this book will deliver with the 'hero obsessed' trope, you were wrong. And it's not that I'm against the heroine fighting more for a relationship, but if her efforts last literally until the end of the book, I unfortunately don't like it.
The romance. I felt no connection between Shay and Cole. Their first meeting in a bar was so awkward that I honestly wondered who had agreed to publish it.
“Hello. I don’t want to be here.” He looks me up and down, his gaze traveling slowly over my figure. After a beat, he says in an unfriendly tone, “Yet here you are.”
What? If a girl came up to me and said that, I wouldn't even answer her, I would just leave without saying a word because why waste my time on her. I also, skipped almost every intimate scene after I read this quote.
“Wow, you’re really impressive! This is the best night of my life!”
Who talks like that?
"I dip my fingers into the small pot of melted butter,"
I made the terrible mistake of continuing after Cole, instead of using lube like a normal person on a planned date would, used butter. Yeah, butter. You could have used anything and you end up using this?
Don't even get me started on the last chapters. It seemed like in the last three pages Cole didn't want anything to do with her, to the point where he refused her calls for months, and then suddenly he showed up and wanted her? Then, three months later, in the epilogue, he asks her to marry him. We love rushed endings.
Cole McCord, a billionaire CEO with a secret who, instead of being a sexy mature man, acted like a teenager throwing tantrums over nothing. He slammed doors in people's faces, growled instead of answering, and generally behaved like a person who shouldn't be managing the company and the people working there. SERIOUSLY.
“Um. It’s about, um, the opening for your assistant? She says she found someone perfect.” Perfect? Sure. I almost laugh out loud. But as that’s not something I do, I growl instead. The receptionist whispers, “I’ll take a message, sir,”
Some innocent woman asks you something and you growl at her? Are you okay?
But those aren't even my main problems with him. The worst part was that he was in love with some woman at the beginning of the book, and kept rejecting Shay literally throughout the entire story even though he wanted to "possess" her. He was supposed to be madly obsessed with her, but he still didn’t want to be with her? He stalked her, bought her expensive things and broke the rules for her, but still didn't want the "boyfriend title"? It didn't make sense to me. He was rich, powerful, had important people in his grasp and could do literally anything. His reasoning for not wanting to be with her honestly didn't make sense to me. He killed terrible people, so what? This author's heroes did worst things, and yet they worshiped their women and were willing to do anything for them. Cole’s brother Callum, could never. You know that saying, 'If he wanted to, he would'? Yeah, Cole couldn't be further from that. The things he was saying to her, especially at the end made me want to punch him in the face.
“I can’t let it go because I love you.” His voice turns bitter. “You loved Chet too. Look what that got you.” My heart is breaking. It’s splitting in half. It’s tearing itself into pieces."
"It’s over. You’re nothing to me anymore."
Bitch what?? Shay wanted to do everything for you and you act like that towards her?
“He said to tell Shay to leave and not come back. He said he only wants to speak to Kiyoko. And he said…” He pauses to shake his head and sigh. “I’m sorry, luv, but he said to tell you it’s over.”
And then he wants to talk to his ex instead of you? Leave his stupid ass girl. Just like you should have done in the beginning.
As you can see, it was a huge disappointment for me. I wish I could love it as much as I thought I would, but this book was nothing like this author's previous books. At least the ones I've read from her. The third book will probably be about the youngest McCord brother, who I liked here, so I want to give it a try. Let’s hope I won’t be disappointed with it as I was here....more

Yep, after this book I am definitely parting ways with Sophie Lark. I forgot about it, but I actually read her Sinners Duet, which I end up rating two stars, and which should actually be a hint not to read her other books, but the blurb here seemed really interesting and I wanted to try this author one last time. As you can probably see, this wasn't my best idea.
Look, I genuinely think this book had some potential to be actually great. We have a heroine who has devoted her life to raising her brother after the death of their parents, and who moves to her deceased uncle's estate, which looks straight out of a horror movie. That's not all though, because it turns out that this property is next door to the house of an older, handsome doctor who doesn't have a very good reputation in this small town after his wife and son died. As you can see, it sounded like it would be an interesting story, perfect for October and the upcoming Halloween. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way.
It didn't take long for me to realize that this book was totally not for me. I stayed mainly because I wanted to find out why the hero's family died and see if I could find any more absurd quotes. Which leads to my main problem here—the writing.
First off I just want to say that, be aware of what you are about to read here, because the stuff I read in this book literally scared me.
"her nipples harden like pencil points."
"whip those tiny tits until they’re rosy as apples,"
The hero actually had some weird obsession with her "tiny, tight little tits" because it felt like he talked about them ALL THE TIME.
"I hear the distinct sound of her hot piss hitting the bowl. My c*ck hardens."
I’m traumatized.
"I’m like a sock with a foot in it, stretched to his shape. My eyes roll back, and I don’t know what noises I’m making."
"My hand is like a saddle,"
"His c*ck springs out like a white cobra, thick with veins."
"showing an erection that could be used to drill to the center of the earth."
"I’m like those animations of sharks where they sniff the smallest drop of blood, and their eyes go black and they turn into killing machines."
I don't know, but it feels like the author was trying to be poetic or something, with all these comparisons, but it definitely didn't work out.
"The heat and weight of his load splashes down like a bucket of lava poured right on my clit."
Like a bucket of lava? What the actual fuc-
"pulse after pulse of thick, creamy come,"
Creamy? GAGGGGG The worst thing is that, I think the story could have been quite interesting if the smut here didn’t exist. The hero didn't even ask about the heroine's sexual preferences and just went full BDSM on her. Also, I don't judge anyone's kinks, but the moment the heroine started f*cking the hero's foot, I kind of lost it. Put the trigger warnings for something like that. Please.
Unfortunately, the romance in this story didn't make me feel anything. It was insta lust, so definitely not my cup of tea. Dane's initial thoughts about the heroine didn't help either, because how?
"Her smile changes everything about her looks. Without it, she’s barely pretty,"
The reason I rated it one and a half stars instead of one is because I liked three things—the heroine wasn't so bad because she tried her best for her brother. There was one thing she did for him that I didn't support but overall, she was bearable. And lastly, the illustrations were beautiful, and the plot twist even surprised me.
As you can see, this is unfortunately my last story by this author, as I'm not the biggest fan of her writing, and the writing style is quite important for me....more

I saw this book on my fyp on goodreads and when I read that there was a pen-pal trope in it, I thought why not read it. Well, it turned out to be a bad decision. The wattpad vibes here made me shudder.
The plot was predictable, the writing style was poor, and the main characters irritating. What a great combination. Not to mention the sentences I read here.
"Little one?” I clarify. He smirks. “Because you’re so little, I could fit you in my pocket.”
Please no. I want to erase it from my memory.
"Holden’s watermelon-colored lips smile down at me as he strokes a hand through my hair."

New half-year resolution—I need to stop taking recommendations from Booktok.
I’m not gonna to lie here, if this series hadn't been raved about everywhere I looked online, I probably wouldn't have read it. I’m trying to stop reading TikTok popular books, but the rating in this book made me picked it up. Fourth Wing was my first book by Rebecca Yarros, so I didn't know what exactly to expect, but at least now I know that it will be my first and last story by this author, because it turned out not to be for me.
This review probably won't cover all the things I didn't like about it, as I started skipping pages after about sixty percent of the book. But without further ado, let's finally get to the point of my review—what exactly didn't work out for me in this story.
The story didn’t hooked me up from the beginning at all. The main reason for this is probably because the writing style didn't speak out to me. I actually dnfed it the day before, because of that reason, but decided to give it another chance because I thought it might not be my day for it or maybe I wasn't in the right mood after a whole week. At one point I was even glad about this decision, but my enthusiasm didn’t last long. I have to be honest and say that around forty percent of the book I was pretty invested in the story when the dragons finally showed up. Unfortunately, it turned out I was only interested when the dragons were involved. The rest was just boring for me.
The second thing is that I felt no connection to the characters. Literally nothing. I must admit that Violet had some great moments, but most of the time I was just embarrassed by her actions. The example.
“Glad to see our year apart hasn’t dulled your tongue, Vi.” “Oh,” I toss over my shoulder as we walk into the hallway, “I can do quite a few things with my tongue. You’d be impressed.”
That line sounded like a horny frat boy.
Also, if you didn’t get it that she was short and tiny, the author kept reminding you of that, because that information was indeed very important.
"I’m too short."
“So she’s small.” Mom scans me up and down"
"Good gods, I don’t even reach his collarbone."
"I’m shorter than most."
“You’re pretty small for a rider, but it looks like you made it.”
"I’m at a disadvantage, that I’m too small to climb its foreleg and mount,"
“You’re tiny.” He says it like an insult"
"I’m the smallest of our squad"
“I’m too short for the ramp,” I whisper to Rhi."
“I’m too short to span the distance!” I hiss, uncaring that anyone could hear us."
That's only from twenty-six percent of the book. I did not include the rest, because I would not have enough space for the rest of my review.
Moving to Xaden—aka, your typical fantasy hero. Seriously. He was your usual tall, black haired, with strong sharp jaw, muscled body, but this time he was riding dragons. I almost forgot, he was
"Flaming hot. Scorching hot. Gets-you-into-trouble-and-you-like-it level of hot."
you get the picture. He was also tall. I've written about it before, but we've also been reminded of it a lot. I had to mention that sentence he said here, because I was laughing my ass off at that moment.
"You have incredibly touchable skin.”
Touchable skin? What does it mean buddy?
Honestly, the dragons were more interesting than the main characters here. If the book was about Tairn, I'd probably be more eager to read it. This dragon had better personality than both of them. At least for me. Tairn was literally my favorite character here. That says a lot about how much I enjoyed this book.
The last thing is the romance between Xaden and Violet. This series is supposed to have five books and they already done the deed, are in love—probably because I didn't make it to this part, and have a strong connection—again, probably because I didn't make it to this part. I thought that at least their first meeting, which is usually quite important, will be more spectacular. But, no. They met in the fourth percent of the book and I was like "Well, that’s it? Already?". They were supposed to be enemies to lovers, the reasoning behind it made even sense, but they delivered nothing. I felt no chemistry between them, no tension, especially the sexual one, and no hatred that they should feel towards each other as enemies. Almost every time Violet saw Xaden it went like that.
"I hate him so much"
"But he is so sexy and beautiful and sexy. And tall."
Not even their first kiss and the cute nickname the hero usually gives the heroine saved them. The first kiss happened after Violet found out that they could feel when their dragons banged. Yes, they could feel their dragons banging. This information made me feel quite uncomfortable. Extremely even. I know they could get rid of that with some magic or whatever, but just why? The nickname "Violence" that Xaden called Violet was tacky and the book could easily have survived without it. Not to mention this line.
"you’re really a violent little thing, aren’t you?”
My only thought was From Blood and Ash. It sounds damn similar. Even though I only read the first book from this series.
Moving forward to the things I liked.
The dragons.
Ending my review, all I will say is that I am pretty sad and disappointed that I didn’t end up liking this book. I wanted to start a new fantasy series that I would be obsessed with, but I guess we can't have everything we want. I’m happy for people who loved it though. Good for you guys....more

Not finished series: *just exists* Cora: whatever *starts different one*
Hmm, this book certainly wasn't that bad, but it felt like a combination of previous Cora's books, but made it Irish. The story wasn’t original at all. If you read mafia romances, you've probably read books like this at least ten times, but still somehow I liked some parts of it. Probably the action at the beginning, because it was ridiculously pathetic and typical, to the point where I wanted to keep reading to see if I would witness something funnier here.
But, let's start with our main characters, specifically Aislinn. Aislinn was simply stupid. I can’t find a different word to describe her. She was the perfect example of a heroine who is told one thing, and does another.
Mom tells her not to go and ask the Irish mafia for help? She goes and asks for help.
Her mom tells her to stay away from her Uncle? She goes straight to him.
People tell her to avoid going to Sodom? She drives there as soon as she can.
Some guy informs her that if she goes inside she will be basically sold for sex? She goes inside thinking she will be "different" and that will avoid her. Spoiler. It doesn’t.
She is warned to not go to police? Police tell her to install bugs in their home and she does that.
“You made the only possible choice, Aislinn.” “If there’s only one choice, it’s not really a choice.”
No girl, it was your choice to fly to New York and get yourself into this mess. Live, Laugh, Love Cora’s heroines. Not Kiara though.
Moving to our, the most original, amazing, lovely hero. Just joking. He was your topical wattpad, alpha, mafia boss with too much money but at least he liked to eat your kitty. That’s something! He saw the heroine for two seconds, saw her putty when she basically sold herself and boom
[image]
I don't know what else to say because this man had no personality.
Finally, let's move on to the questionable sentences and names in this book, because I was wondering who allowed it to be published.
“What are you doing?” “Isn’t that obvious? I’m trying to make you sing hallelujah.”
Please at least not the Shrek version.
“The Cunt Yard is over there,”
A WHAT?!? How did she come up with that name?
"her wanton cries and desperate moans while she spilled her juice into my mouth."
Spilled her juice? I hope it’s at least the orange one. Vitamin C is quite important.
In overall do I regret reading it? Maybe. I mean, it was funny and ridiculous, but why so long? It could easily be two hundred fifty pages, not four hundred....more
Oh man, I don't know, I feel like almost everything in this book went how it not supposed to be. I started this series with the second book becau1.5/5
Oh man, I don't know, I feel like almost everything in this book went how it not supposed to be. I started this series with the second book because I was more interested in the story of the second couple, that I ended up loving. That’s probably the reason why I had high expectations for this one, even though the rating is pretty low, but as you can see by my rating, I kinda end up hating it.
The relationship between Damon and Ben was toxic, once they wanted to be together, later one of them was kissing some else. It was a constant push and pull, but in a bad way.
I honestly think Damon was the worst one from both of them, he was so undecided he wanted Ben, he was jealous and possessive of him, and then five seconds later he told Ben that he can bang whoever he want.
“Nothing’s going on here," he sneers. “Feel free to fuck whoever you want.”
"He leans in and buries his face into my neck. “Changed my mind. I don’t want you to be with anyone else, baby. I want you all to myself,” he murmurs softly."
Don’t get me started on the drama at the end when he promises he won’t take any drugs, but still goes and buys them. It was sad because Ben’s mom overdose and he didn’t even care about that, his boyfriend’s mom has the same problem as him and he doesn’t even though about it. Walking red flag here, because additionally he loves to argue and his groveling is pretty non existent.
Ben character was okay, sometimes. I was more connected to him than to Damon. He had pretty bad situation with his family and school, which I’m glad end up at the end great, because his parents kinda "changed", at least his dad. One of the things I didn’t liked was his bi-awakening. It was said he was curious about Damon and I thought the tension between them will handled be longer, but they did something at 13% of the book and considering the book is short, it was just too fast, at least for me.
The dynamic of their friend group, if you can call them friends because all they did together was party and smoke weed and sometimes hang out in the park while they did that too, was pretty weird. The only guy from this group I liked was Teddy because he was a cutie and I hope I will like Jazz too, because I can’t wait to read his and Ant’s book.

I'm so damn disappointed about this book. This story had a lot of potential, because the last two books were good, but I have the impression that the author was fed up with this series, because he chose the worst way this story could go. I highlighted more things didn't liked than I liked.
The two most important things you need to know first: Leo deserved better, and Will was an asshole. And the rest:
one Will was so damn mean, I understand he's been through some things in his life, but so has Leo. And guess what? Leo didn't act like a d*ck and Will did.
"You’re the one who wanted to switch places!” “No, I mean…. Will, come on. Please. I know it’s maybe a joke to you, but I really haven’t ever done this before, and you’re kind of making me feel like shit.” I opened my eyes a crack and looked at Will. He looked away. “Like, I want you you, not sex you.” “Sex me,” he repeated.
It was Leo’s first time, and I would basically cry if someone was that mean for me. It’s not even the worst fragment.
two He was described as so handsome that almost everyone fell in love with him at first sight. He thought everyone was with him ONLY because of how he looked. Narcissistic much? That was also the reason why he didn’t wanted to be with Leo, because he was sure Leo thinks the same. Which obviously was not true.
three I don’t know why Leo wanted him honestly. He might be handsome, but that was basically all he has to offer.
"I can try not sleeping with other people,” he went on, “but I don’t know if I can promise it forever. I don’t know what will happen in the future. And I can’t fucking take it if you leave me again because you were making us something in your head that we aren’t.”
Seriously? and in the last chapter he said that he loved Leo. Sorry, but if you love someone you won’t cheat on them. Period.
After my second book by this author, I can say with certainty that this will be the last book I'll read by her. I already dnfed her one story "F1.5/5
After my second book by this author, I can say with certainty that this will be the last book I'll read by her. I already dnfed her one story "Fractured Freedom", because I couldn’t even finish the first chapter. So with this book, I have to say goodbye.
It’s my personal opinion and preference, but I hate when the hero in a book shares the heroine with someone else. Spoiler there is a scene like that here. But, that’s not the only reason why it was bad. The story and even the spicy scenes, which I though will save the book were boring. Not to mention poorly written, which leads to the questionable sentences.
"She was so wet, it sounded like my own little personal waterfall"
Your what? At that moment I thought a man wrote it, because how could a woman possibly write something like that.
I finished this book, so that’s why 0.5 star higher....more
