The writing was choppy, basic, and detached. It was boring and dragged on, the concept sounded amazing, but the execution was just not good. Also, I'm pretty sure this is a spin-off of another series? I had no clue when I started so some things didn't make sense to me at first.
The premise of this novel sounds really good, but the execution is lacking.

I really didn’t like the main character, she was snarky and cussed a lot, not that I’m a prude or anything, but I think adding the f-bomb sometimes takes away from the flow of the writing and doesn’t really add anything to the novel itself. I didn’t like the writing style itself, I dislike it when books describe EVERY single action a character makes, but it wasn’t terrible, just decent. In the middle of the book, the main character started changing, and since I didn’t like her personality at first I was kind of excited to see her arc. But, when the time did come, it felt very rushed and as if the mc had been replaced altogether rather than her changing. She transitioned way too fast (into practically another person at that) without any actual development that showed her progress (except her being quiet at times & conversations that came too soon).
I skimmed some of this book, not a lot, but some of the descriptions were unnecessary. I just did not enjoy the descriptions. I love flowery writing, but this was not that, it was more of describing the character’s EVERY action. The character felt much younger than their age and not mature whatsoever which I really despise in novels. Without the “adult” parts I’d assume this book is about a 16 year old honestly, because the voice seemed very young and immature.
The romance felt completely unnecessary, it was a huge case of insta-love. I’m not going to spoil anything, but I was confused at the behaviour of the characters towards one another. There really was nothing except lust, and it’s quite clear since their first encounter. But, I did like Eyre as a character in general, and they worked together well.
I do have to say that this book did have its ups as well. Some of the concepts in this book were very interesting though. I love how the author twisted elements that appear in books and our perception of creatures alike. It was interesting. This sounded like something right up my alley so I’m kind of sad that I didn’t like it more, but you can’t love everything I guess.
Thank you to LibraryThing for my free copy. This is no way affected my opinion of the book.

I really didn’t like the writing. It was just very bland and mediocre. The writing style was kind of like “I walked to the fridge. I grabbed a cookie. I ate the cookie. A crumb fell. What a shame.” It was just very boring and not engaging whatsoever.
I didn’t like the protagonist. All she talked about was how her baking skills were amazing and how gorgeous she was and how everybody loved her. It was annoying. I felt like the author tried to make her “humble” when she wrote the character but it definitely did not seem that way. The MC and other characters in the story were just very snarky and one-dimensional. Literally nobody had any physical or emotional flaws in this book. FLAWS ARE WHAT MAKE CHARACTERS UNIQUE. FLAWS ARE GOOD. INCLUDE FLAWS.
The “plot twist” was way too obvious. Mystery books should be mysterious, but this was just predictable. Some parts of this book were just very cringy and cliche. I literally skipped the dance scene part, descriptions of some characters (*cough* Hudson *cough*) which were along the lines of “OH MY GOSH HE’S SO HOT”, and some scenes towards the end which were just weird and unesscary. It was too much to bare.
The story wasn’t that bad, but at the same time, I didn’t like how it started or how everything played out. I think the author should have focused on world building and said the word “vampire” and “werewolf” about 100 times less. It wasn’t awful, but it also wasn’t memorable and it felt very rushed and incomplete if that makes sense. It got better towards the end, but it wasn't good enough for me to forget the rocky beginning and overall weird and clunky writing.
I hated the ending so much, the entire time all I wanted to do was chuck the book 10 feet away from me.

The rest of the book was actually enjoyable though. The writing style had such a great flow to it, the main character and plot was interesting to read about ((view spoiler)[though I wish we learned more about why she was so obsessed with cleaning, and about her father as well since I have many theories and questions that remained that way instead of getting answers (hide spoiler)]), I enjoyed the setting (I swear, so many of the books that are mainstream/hyped up are always set in America, Britain...etc so it was refreshing to read a book set in Nigeria), and the sisterly dynamics.
