The world can be a scary place. At least, that's what Andi Lockley's anxiety wants her to believe. It doesn't help that she narrowly escaped a dangerous man years ago, or that every relationship since has been colored with that lingering fear. But things are better now―she's channeling everything into her career as a horror novelist and true crime podcaster, and her next book may be the breakthrough she needs.

If only her grumpy new neighbor would stop stomping around at all hours of the night.

Former firefighter Hill Dawson can't sleep. After losing part of his leg in a rescue gone wrong, he's now stuck in limbo. He needs to figure out what he's supposed to do with his life, and he can't let himself get distracted by the pretty redhead next door. But when someone breaks into Andi's place, Hill can't stop himself from rushing in to play the hero. Soon, a tentative bond forms between the unlikely pair. But what starts out as a neighborly exchange quickly turns into the chance for so much more... if Andi can learn to put aside her fear and trust in herself―and love―again.

New York Times and USA Today bestseller Roni Loren blends heat and heart in this emotionally charged story.

this book is adorable in every way possible.

but honestly, the best part of this is the visibility and representation. both of the MCs have gone through horrible things and currently find themselves in an emotional rut. i love that they help each other to grow and cope with those traumas, but also dont become dependant on each other. their strength is their own, just bolstered by each others support. and so many heavy topics are discussed throughout, but RL has done it in a such a tender and honest way.

this lovely story about trust and finding safety in others will be sure to make your heart skip a beat.

thank you so much sourcebooks casablanca for the ARC!

This was such a pleasant surprise. I read this book randomly because I had an ALC from Libro.fm, and I had a five hour road trip with plenty of time to kill, so I decided to listen to this on audio with no expectations, and I LOVED IT! This story follows a woman who’s a horror author, and her love interest is her neighbor Hill Dawson, who is a retired firefighter 😍

This book was just EVERYTHING!!! It was so cute!!! I love that she is a horror author, I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance novel with a female horror writer as a protagonist and I love the way she talks about how her brain works and how she comes up with her ideas, it was so fascinating and she also has GREAT taste in horror films and I love all the scenes of them watching horror movies together.

Also, Hill Dawson >>>>> he’s amazing. I LOVE the discussion of consent in this book and how he ALWAYS asks for consent and always makes sure she is comfortable, ugh he is so swoon-worthy. He’s my ideal male love interest. His character makes me want to reread this already.

The only reason it didn’t get a full five star from me is because the ending conflict was kind of lame in my opinion. I was frustrated because it felt dragged out and I just wanted them to be together 😅

But damn I loved this book. I love these two characters so much. I want to reread this in the future, and I just noticed it’s the ‘second book’ in a series so I’m gonna need to check out the first book immediately 😍

I read book #1, Yes & I Love You, in this series a couple weeks ago and really liked it!! I was pumped to read this one, book #2 in the series! Unfortunately, for me, it wasn’t quite as good as Yes & I Love You. What If You and Me was still plenty enjoyable enough and readable, but just not as good as Yes & I Love You. Maybe my expectations were too high. I expected it to be like book #1 obviously since it’s a series, but it was honestly way too similar to book #1 to me and I was hoping for a bit more on the storyline. 5/5 stars for the spicy level on this one, though! It brought the steam for sure! Now, onto an ARC of book #3 now… Can’t wait to see how book #3 turns out!

This was so much more than your average rom com.

When I listened to Yes & I love You (book one of the Say Everything Series) I fell in love with the depth of the characters and immediately started watching for the next in the series.

This latest release brings together our two leading characters, Andi and Hill. Both have erected walls around their hearts from traumas each experienced in their past..

Andi Lockley’s first love turned out to be a dangerous man who left her questioning her judgement and ability to ever trust again. The thought of being with another man gives her full blown anxiety attacks.

Andi’s landlord Hill Dawson is a former firefighter who lost a leg in the line of duty. Not only did he have to retire from the fire department, but his fiancé also left him! He struggles with his identity as well as his body image.

Perhaps together they can help each other overcome their fears and move forward.

Roni Loren once again gives us genuine characters with real everyday issues. This book was filled with hope and love. In order to move forward you must come to terms and make peace with your past.

I listened to the audio and Desiree Ketchum did a brilliant job narrating!

Fingers crossed there will be another book in this series!🤞🤞

Is out there a more sweet story about healing love? Just two people who met during a tough time and discovered they felt better with each other.
Every love story is unique and beautiful in its own way, but sometimes we forgive that simplicity isn't that bad.

In the second book of the Say Everything series we read the story of Andi, Hollyn’s friend at WorkAround. She's not the badass girl everyone sees, with her red hair and her nose ring. She's broken deeply and, for that, she doesn't know if she’ll ever have a “normal” relationship.
And this is where Hill shows up: a former firefighter with depression issues caused by an accident during work for which he's now labelled as disabled. He wanted to be the hero of his fairytale and now he can't even wake up without feeling already exhausted.

Wonderful narrative skills aside, what I loved most was the message of the story. Every person I've ever met, including therapists, would say that you have to love yourself first and then you can love someone else. But this isn't just wrong, it's also damaging.
If I'll have to wait to love myself before committing to a relationship, I'll never be able to love anyone. 20 years of traumas can't be erased by waking up one morning and deciding I now love myself. I'll always look at myself in the mirror and think there's something I would change; I'll always let myself down because I can’t stand up for my own overwhelming expectations.
Still, having someone by my side could help. It takes a lot of patience to love someone broken, but it doesn't mean it isn't worth it.

At first, I was quite annoyed by how the author seemed to have forgotten Hollyn and her storyline, but it’s Andi’s story after all.
I'm still a little bothered that we don't know anything about what happened to her after the book ended, tho.

The next book is about Eliza, the third and last component of the girl's group.
New story, new heart problems.
New ways of being disappointed by men, but also new ways of imagining the perfect one.
New reading about love’s perfect imperfectness.

Another steamy story about two likable and believable characters. In Book 1 (Yes & I Love You) we met Hollyn and Jasper. In this book, we meet Andi and Hill. As in Book 1, the main characters each have issues they're trying to overcome. Their struggles and insecurities give the plot interest and depth.

This is Book 2 in the Say Everything series, but it's fine as a stand-alone read. If you've read Book 1, you'll recognize the background information mentioned, especially in regards to Hollyn and Jasper. You'll also find a lot of similarities between both books. If you start with Book 2, there's plenty of background given about past characters and situations, so you'll be caught up.

I recommend the audiobook, which is narrated by Desiree Ketchum. She narrated Book 1 also and does a fantastic job, especially with so many characters involved.

What If You & Me by Roni Lauren
2nd book in the Say Anything series. Contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Includes issues of disability and PTSD.

Andi is used to thinking worst case scenario. As a horror novelist and true crime podcast story teller, bad behavior is her default first thought. Her podcast is to help people protect themselves.
Hill is a forced retired firefighter after losing his leg. He doesn’t want anything to do with his new neighbor but he can’t help being protective when it’s called for.
As the two spend more time together, they find things in common though they deal with issues from totally opposing personalities.

I loved the heroine and her strength and commitment to healing with a positive outlook. She’s cheerful with a smile on the outside even if that’s not how she feels on the inside.
The hero has PTSD and a disability. I wasn’t happy about some of his decisions but understand the fear. I’m grateful it all worked out as it’s supposed to in a romance.

Provoking, heartbreaking, sexy, and ultimately delightful.

🎧 I listened to the audio book narrated by Desiree Ketchum who also did the first book. She has a pleasant range of voices but does better with the female characters than male which is to be expected. It is a clear and distinct voice for Hill so it’s easy to track who’s talking on the audiobook. Emotions and tension are clearly articulated. I started at a speed of 1.0 as usual and then listened to the majority of the book at 1.25 which is the norm for me.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and #DreamscapeMedia.

it went downhill for me when they became fwb 😭

”Thanks,” he said with a little nod.
“For what?”
He gave her arm a gentle squeeze, sending a shimmer of awareness through her, and then released her. “For being pushy. I need that right now. I’ve been too good at saying no to everything and everyone lately.”

their communication was great i liked that

He frowned. “But what about the supernatural stuff? Do you think a vampire is going to get you?”
She laughed without humor. “The monsters are metaphors for real-life horrors.” She lifted a finger. “Though my jury is still out on ghosts. And it sounds weird, but horror is often about hope. We want to believe we can be the final girl. That the good guys or girls can still beat evil despite it all. I mean, Laurie Strode in Halloween is a badass. The kids in IT are terrified but determined to win. They never stop fighting.”
Hill set down his beer on the side table, a thoughtful look on his face. “I never thought about it that way.”
“Yeah, well, lots of people dismiss the horror genre as exploitative and cheap. But it’s been around so long for a reason. We get something out of being scared. It’s important.”

some random stuff id like to quote

”Not many people are immune to the jump scare. No shame. I still jump sometimes, even when I’ve seen a movie a hundred times and know it’s coming.”
He considered her, his dark lashes making shadows on his cheeks in the blue-gray light of the television. “But you like that feeling?”
“Being scared in a safe way is a rush.” Feeling bold, she reached out and grabbed his wrist, placing her fingers against his pulse point. His arm tensed beneath her touch, but he stayed very still. “Your heart is beating fast. You probably have already gotten a small dose of adrenaline. You’re breathing a little harder. It’s riding a roller coaster without having to leave your house or risk throwing up.”

y is this me?

but anyway tho, this book wasnt anything extraordinary. the supposedly grumpy sunshine trope was… not the way i liked. the opposite attract couple i like is when one of them is the annoying upbeat sunshine to this grouch who only want to be left alone. i mean maybe thats partly coz their relationship didnt start out as enemies / with any hostility like im used to, so i couldnt really detect any chemistry? idk, thats not how its supposed to work anyway lmao, chemistry is chemistry, dont take my words for anything. i enjoyed it still at first but like i said, i lost all interest the second they decided to have a fwb relationship w/ each other. 2.5 - 2.75 stars maybe

Seeing as I've since read book3 I should prob jot down some thoughts & rate this read 🤗

The two MCs were fun, their friendship then relationship came about in an entertaining fashion as they both had their own hurdles to overcome - I have a serious soft spot for Andi's True Crime podcast. Love falling down a youtube TC rabbit hole myself & gosh darn it if the cooking chat didn't make me all kinds of hungry 🫠

The side characters, as always, were a win for me - especially Ramsey & Eliza. Sad he's not getting his own book from what I can tell he seems like a fun kind of scamp 😅

Hill had a fair bit to come to terms with. Seeing his character growth was an interesting take & altho uncomfy at times it was great to get his PoV especially for when he finally has an adult chat with his ex - there was a lot to unpack there and I like that Loren took this storyline on a more winding path when other authors might have taken an easier more dramatic route...don't get me wrong there is drama in this story just of a diff variety 🤐

Overall a fun read, even if it "ends" sooner than I thought @75% of ebook and it suffers from a 3rd act separation 🙄

3.5-3.75*

5 emotional, sexy, respectful, courageous and full of heat Stars!

I loved Roni Loren’s first book, Yes & I Love You, and knew I wanted to read this book. Well, imagine my delight when I fell for this book even harder than the first. I listened to this on audio and the narration was great. I easily got lost in the book, hours passing, only coming up for air when I heard the word “epilogue” and realized I’d hit the end. Isn’t that the best feeling? I love getting so lost in a book that you lose all track of time.

Loren has a gift for taking imperfect characters and putting them in situations that turn their worlds upside down, in the best way! In this book, horror novelist and true crime podcaster Andi (who we met in book1!) has lived in fear of getting too close to someone romantically after a traumatic experience in her teens. Yet, she can’t help the pull she feels for her neighbor, retired firefighter Dawson Hill who is battling his own demons after surviving a fire that claimed his lower leg. Y’all these two were just so good together - vulnerable, sweet, unsure and so damn HOT!

This book deals with some heavier topics including depression, anxiety trauma and violence but it does so with a positive focus on healing, consent, self-discovery and growth. Loren deals with both disability and mental health both realistically and respectfully. The storyline was emotional, fun and red hot! In short, I highly recommend What If You & Me!

He listened. He hadn't pushed or rushed her. He hadn't cajoled. But more than that, he hadn't made her feel wrong or broken for being the way she was. He'd simply been with her in that moment, meeting her where she was and seeming to enjoy what thye were doing as much as she did.”

When I read grumpy neighbor in the blurb to this, I had to read it. The grump/sunshine trope is catnip for me and I will never get enough of it.

Now my darling OCD reader friends, close your eyes for a second. Because I'm about to admit I didn't read book one in this series. I said close your eyes and stop judging me. GOD! Where was I? Ah yes. This is shocking, considering I've read most of Roni's backlist and I seriously have no idea how I missed book one in the Say Everything series. But I was so excited for this book after reading the blurb, I couldn't wait to read book one first. So here we are. *grins unrepentantly*

If you're looking for a swoony, emotional read with plenty of steam, look no further. This story seriously packed a punch of the feels. We have a heroine who's a horror writer and a true crime podcaster. Quirky heroine lovers, you'll want her for your bff. It's impossible not to love Andi straight off the bat. Her dark and painful past is something you learn as the story progresses and I swear it made me love her all the more.

Andi is struggling to write her newest book, and her noisy neighbor stomping around in the apartment next door through all hours of the night doesn't help. And can I just say I loved the way they meet? Because I didn't know whether to laugh or swoon. But I digress again.

Hill is a former firefighter with a tortured past. Still reeling from the loss of his career from an injury that almost cost him his life, he broods in his apartment and avoids people. But when his sweet and beautiful new neighbor crashes into his apartment fearful that someone just broke into hers, he can't quite avoid her.

This was a sweet, slow burn romance. I loved the friendship that Andi and Hill formed before the romance ever developed. The chemistry was always there but it took a bit to bubble to the surface. There's also the added element of suspense which added another layer of interesting to the story.

While sweet romance isn't typically my cuppa, this one did hit the spot. I loved Hill and Andi together. I loved that the author took such a heavy subject matter and managed to not weigh the story down with angst or drama. It was just two people dealing with the demons of their past and learning about themselves through each other. A truly satisfying, swoony romance with plenty of feels and a dash of suspense.

A great story from start to finish. I liked this book better than the first, and that tells a lot because book 1 was very enjoyable.
I really liked the leads; they were mature, real, and well developed. The setting was perfect and warm.
Mental health was the big theme of this story and i find it refreshing to read about a set of characters that acknowledge this and try to overcome it.

Andy suffers from severe anxiety as a consequence from a previous relationship.

Hill, on the other hand, was a firefighter who recently retired due to losing his leg during his last mission. This, along with his fiancé cheating on him while he was healing, caused him to have insecurities regarding his social life.

Reading about how they were both able to overcome and strive towards better mental health and happiness was very rewarding.

TITLE: WHAT IF YOU & ME
AUTHOR: Roni Loren
SERIES: Say Everything #2
RELEASE DATE: July 6, 2021
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
THEMES & TROPES: Mental Health
RATING: 4 Stars
CLIFFHANGER: No

Roni Loren really knows how to address the heavy stuff without making her stories unbearably angsty. It's always the exact right dose. What If You & Me in her new Say Everything series is a fabulous addition to this series.

If you've read the first book in this series, Yes & I Love You, you've met quirky Andi, who faces her past by writing horror books (and loving horror movies) and being a true crime podcaster. I loved her already in book 1 - she was adorable and easy to love. Thankfully this is exactly the personality we get in What If You & Me. She is resilient, strong, and has an inert kindness and sense of humor that sets her apart from other women. At least for Hill. After a traumatic relationship she has given up on a future with a man. She just doesn't know whether to trust them and having been wrong before she doesn't trust her instincts any longer.
“Andi’s like an eighty-year-old woman with a nose ring.”

Hill is the brooding guy next door, a man who spends a lot of time in his own head and with low self esteem (yeah, that's a thing, apparently). A former fireman, who lost one of his legs while being a hero and saving people, had his heart broken after when his fiancée cheated on him while recovering from the accident. Add a bit of depression and lack of direction after the tragedy and this is a set up for heartbreak. Especially when you think you're the "practice guy" for your cute neighbor.
Hill and Andi become friends and their connection is everything. Hill is very protective of Andi and a rock when she needs one, likewise, Andi's sunny nature drags Hill out of his funk more and more often. The chemistry quickly turns from sizzling to ember-red but don't expect them to be moving fast. This is a delicious slow burn.
The way he viewed himself made her heart hurt. All those people in that room tonight had looked at him as a hero, as someone who’d sacrificed for the good of others.

I enjoyed this installment as much as the first book. Roni Loren has hit a home run with her new series. The humor is on point, so are the emotions and all characters I've met so far are likable, even Hill's cheating witch of an ex. My guess is that the heroine of the next book is Eliza, Andi's friend and the hero Hill's firefighter bestie Ramsey. Can't wait to find out!

** One of my Top 20 of 2021 Picks on www.JeevesReads.com! **

Why is there something so absolutely swoon-worthy about a grumpy werewolf of a hero showing his vulnerable side? I loved the raw intimacy in this neighbors to lovers romance, which features two broken people healing together. It pairs a fierce and resilient heroine with a lovable and hurting hero, and the combination makes for one compelling read. This slow-burning love story doesn't get dragged down by the weight of their pasts (which contain MANY triggers), but there is plenty of emotion and heartache. We got a peek at this heroine in the first book in this series of interconnected standalones, and I was intrigued by her then. But this was so much better than I anticipated; I loved it from start to finish.

The story follows Andi, a true crime podcaster whose past has shaped the person she is today. While most people see her bubbly exterior, not many know about the emotional scars that she carries. So when Andi meets her new neighbor, she feels a connection to him. Hill lost the career he loved, the woman he thought he'd marry, part of his leg, AND his confidence as the result of one on-the-job accident, and now he's struggling to get himself out of the fog of depression. But Andi is a ray of sunshine in his life, and she might just be exactly what he needed to find his happy again.

Please be aware that the story explores SO MANY different things that some readers may find triggering, from depression and mental health to sexual assault and much more. It's all handled with care and only serves to make the story richer, but the themes are front and center throughout the whole book. I didn't find this to be overly heavy or particularly angsty, but there are definitely moments of that.

The first book in this series was a very solid read, so I was definitely looking forward to this. The dynamic in this one is right up my alley - I love a kind and protective cinnamon roll/alpha combo, and that's what we get with Hill. He is a guy who once had everything that he thought he wanted, but it was all taken away with one accident. That's left him reeling, and Andi is his perfect complement. They fit together so well BECAUSE they've both had such traumatic experiences - they understand each other in a way that many others wouldn't. That makes the growth in intimacy so very fulfilling; there's a patience and care to the steamy scenes that's both enticing and comforting. I loved the connection between these two, and there was never a dull moment for me. I am definitely looking forward to more from the series - this was an excellent read. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this heartfelt romance.

Andi Lockley has channeled her traumatic past into something useful with her true crime podcast when she’s not writing horror stories. She’s not looking for romance, but her gorgeous and grumpy neighbor presents an interesting opportunity.

Hill, a now retired fire fighter, is plagued by PTSD and depression after losing part of his leg on the job. He’s not sure what his next move is professionally, but he certainly had no plans for a romance since his fiancée dumped him after the accident. That is until a certain spunky redhead moved next door.

Hill is dealing with negative self-esteem after his injury and can’t imagine what a woman would see in him, but all Andi sees is gorgeous, brave man. She knows what it’s like to have fear hold you back so they agree to help each other out by spending time together as friends. Andi will guide him through the best movie genre (according to Andi): horror, and Hill will teach her how to cook some basics without burning the house down. Of course, spending time together only magnifies their mutual attraction and I was all in!

I just loved how Andi used her past trauma for good by detailing true crime and talking about what women could learn and tips on how to defend yourself. Andi’s positivity and zest for life rubbed off on Hill helping out from the dark cloud he was under. Hill was a sweetheart, too, one-hundred percent supportive of Andi, and who doesn’t love a man who can cook? He was definitely a keeper even if he didn’t feel worthy at times. These two had wicked chemistry, so very hot when they finally gave in to their desires!

I hope this isn’t the end to the series as I’d love a romance between Eliza and Ramsey!

I listened to the audio version, and Desireé Ketchum helped bring the characters to life! She did a wonderful job with both the male and female parts, enhancing an already excellent story! I listened at my normal 1.5x.

So sweet and empowering!

I really loved Roni Loren's first book in this series, so I was thrilled to get my hands on this one. The disability and mental health rep is fantastic/realistic/respectful, and the chemistry and banter between Hill and Andi are so perfectly done. I love her true crime podcast and how she focuses on how we can learn from other tragedies. I especially love that the heavy aspects handled (listed in TWs below) are handled with a focus on consent, healing, and patient growth.

The only thing that I didn't love is the horror movie side story, but that's just my cowardly side not being familiar with all the scary movies referenced. It did work well with the plot, so it was just heaped on there for no purpose.

I can't wait for the next one in this series!

*Audiobook note: I listened along while I read, thanks to LibroFM, and absolutely loved the narrator. I was totally spellbound in the story!

TW: depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, violence

Thanks Sourcebooks Casa for the advanced read, and LibroFM for the advanced listen!

*Mild Spoilers*

I feel like the plot was just a facade to write smut? Because these characters are way too communicative and perfect for trauma survivors. And because everything was hella convenient and the dichotomy of horror movie enthusiast who is also easily scared felt really strange. I hated the Jacob inclusion. I hated that Eliza paid for Hill at the auction. Who has that type of money/investment in a platonic friend's/client's relationship? Sus. I liked that Hill forgave Christina, but she was unnecessary to the momentum, too. Even Evan threatening Andi and then going to sleep felt off. Overall, it's written well and I like the characters, but I'm lukewarm about them. Just not for me, I suppose.

Grumpy meets sunshine is my absolute favourite romance trope because I believe in balance, yin and yang etc etc etc. I love when two diametrically opposed people find missing halves in the other, coming together to heal otherwise unheal-able wounds.

In What If You & Me, Hill Dawson, a disabled former firefighter battling depression meets Andi Lockley, a horror novelist and true crime podcaster with acute trust issues from a childhood trauma. They are two beautifully flawed people who live next door to each other, and grow a true friendship over months through the sharing of horror movies and cooking lessons.

Major consent boner points given to both Hill and Andi! 👏👏👏 Hill patiently helps Andi overcome her fears and rediscover intimacy after her emotionally traumatic last relationship. His tender protective nature is loving, selfless and not at all overbearing. Andi helps him feel good and confident again about his appearance and disability after his devastating accident. She sees past his physical flaws and insecurities to acknowledge his kindness, strength and bravery instead.

Great communication between both characters, there is a lot of honesty and vulnerability. No annoying misunderstandings, thank the lord! It is a real, functioning relationship they have. I appreciate it when writers don’t have to add unnecessary drama to spice things up because the plot and characters are already interesting enough.

Overall, a wonderful emotional story blended with depth and acceptance. I found myself smiling at many points reading this book because Hill and Andi find so much joy and understanding with each other, it’s impossible not the root for them.

What if You & Me is the sequel to Yes & I Love You, a book that I really enjoyed (and would definitely recommend!)

While I didn't love this follow up as much as the first book, it still had the signature Roni Loren wit and chemistry. If you haven't read the first book, but are interested in this plot- you can definitely go straight into this no worries. You may not get some of the context surrounding Hollyn and Jasper- the couple from the previous book- but it shouldn't detract from your enjoyment.

What if You & Me follows Andi, a true crime podcaster with a troubled past. She struggles with anxiety, and finds it difficult to have lasting relationships due to her trauma. Insert Hill Dawson. A former firefighter who is left stuck in limbo after losing his leg. The unlikely pair quickly develop a bond and maybe even something more.

This book definitely deals with some harder hitting themes, but it also has its fair share of cute, romantic moments. If you want to read a romance that actually has good communication- here is a perfect example! They talked about their triggers and fears and likes and never got annoyed at the other because of them. Thank you Roni loren!

I can't exactly pinpoint what made me like this book less than its predecessor, but one thing I definitely didn't vibe with was the sex scenes. For some reason I found them awkward. Maybe it was because of my experience listening to the audiobook that it felt intrusive- or maybe because of the word choices- I don't completely know. But nevertheless I didn't enjoy them unfortunately. (Obviously this is more a personal issue than anything else though)

Overall, What if You & Me was a super fun and fast paced read that I would definitely recommend- especially if you are a fan of Roni Loren's previous works!

Horror writer & true crime enthusiast, Andi loves staying up late and watching horror flicks for fun & research for her true crime podcast. But when she turns the volume up just a smidge too loud after midnight, her hot as heck neighbor comes pounding on her door, afraid for her life. When Andi opens her door, her neighbor is not who she expected.

Hill is a medically retired firefighter who is unsure what to do with his life, since he thought firefighting would be his lifelong career. He is dealing with PTSD & depression, but when he gets to know his new tenant & neighbor, Andi, things in his life start looking up.

Andi is bubbly to Hill’s grumpy. Even though they’re complete opposites, Hill & Andi get each other, as they both have traumatic pasts that affect their day to day lives. They form a great friendship, but it’s clear there’s attraction between them. They each have hesitations about pursuing something romantically. But if either of them want to heal from their pasts, they’ll have to face their fears head-on & decide if love is worth the vulnerability & the risks.

What If You & Me by Roni Loren is book 2 in the Say Everything series. I really loved Hill & Andi’s love story. They are both such complex, multilayered characters that I felt so connected to by the end of this book. While this didn’t make me sob, I shed a few tears at different times, as each of Andi & Hill’s individual & joint stories hit me right in the feels. Roni sure knows how to make me feel connected to her characters & stories. I can’t wait to read more! 4.5/5 stars.

Ah! I’m so, so pleasantly surprised by this book. I’ve never read anything by Roni Loren before but I’m about to read everything they’ve ever written.

This was excellent. I’m not normally a fan of friends to lovers but this was executed so well, I am simply in love. Great communication between the two characters, angsty and swoon-worthy at the same time. I’m a sucker for the grumpy dude and sunshine girl trope, and for stories where everything ties up so nicely in the end. There’s nothing worse than finishing a book and still having questions about unanswered plot points.

I loved Andi so much; a horror writer who also loves horror movies? Me too! It was so exciting for me to finally find a MC who is a horror buff the way I am, and the incorporation of literally all of my favourite horror movies made me so excited. Throw in the addition of her sharing safety tips and being an overall bad bitch, and the important topics that were discussed—I literally can’t fault this. Hill and Andi were perfect together and I am thoroughly impressed.

Thank you Libro.fm for providing me with an ALC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Andi and Hill are neighbors and end up getting to know each other after someone tries to break into her apartment and since he's a former firefighter, he starts helping her.

This book has one of my favorite romance tropes: grumpy/sunshine and the way their relationship evolves is amazing. The contrast between them is so fun! I also was really fond of the characters individually and the author explores their own dramas really well. The book deals with disability and mental health admirably.

I highly recommend it if you want a romance a bit heavier - even if it has its fun moments - and well written.

Audiobook Review
Overall 5 stars
Performance 5 stars
Story 5 stars

I could not put this book down! The characters and story consumed my mind and I was invested from the very start. I loved the first book in this series, Yes & I Love You, and was so happy to see that Andi would be getting her own book. I don't think I can properly articulate how beautiful and touching this book is. It is raw and messy and so heartbreakingly honest, but it's also healing and uplifting. Hill and Andi didn't feel like characters in a story to me. Their fears and struggles, as well as their joys and triumphs, felt like my own. I don't think I have rooted this hard for a character/a couple in a long time. The pacing of Hill and Andi's relationship was just right and the friends to lovers and forced proximity tropes played out perfectly. The writing flowed wonderfully and so much care was taken to address the difficult and painful plot points in the novel. Some of these topics may be triggering to some readers, so please review the content warnings below before starting.

Desiree Ketchum's narration was fantastic! She gave such an emotional performance. It had me laughing, crying, and even a little scared at times. I was definitely impressed by her narration. I truly could go on and on about how much I loved this one. I can't recommend it enough and I'm so excited for Eliza's story next!

CW: PTSD, mental health, anxiety, panic attacks, grooming & sexual assault (in the past, but on page details/discussion), depression, cheating ex (past), physical disability after workplace accident (fire related, occurs in the past, but some details are discussed on page), mentions of parental drug use, domestic violence, and death (past), parental abandonment, internet trolls and doxing, home break-in, physical assault (on page), mentions of stalking & murder (past)

This was so beautiful. I loved the emotional reach of the book and the empowerment felt by both leads by the end of the story.

Reading the other two books in this series is going to be a must.
