Horror writer & true crime enthusiast, Andi loves staying up late and watching horror flicks for fun & research for her true crime podcast. But when she turns the volume up just a smidge too loud after midnight, her hot as heck neighbor comes pounding on her door, afraid for her life. When Andi opens her door, her neighbor is not who she expected.
Hill is a medically retired firefighter who is unsure what to do with his life, since he thought firefighting would be his lifelong career. He is dealing with PTSD & depression, but when he gets to know his new tenant & neighbor, Andi, things in his life start looking up.
Andi is bubbly to Hill’s grumpy. Even though they’re complete opposites, Hill & Andi get each other, as they both have traumatic pasts that affect their day to day lives. They form a great friendship, but it’s clear there’s attraction between them. They each have hesitations about pursuing something romantically. But if either of them want to heal from their pasts, they’ll have to face their fears head-on & decide if love is worth the vulnerability & the risks.
What If You & Me by Roni Loren is book 2 in the Say Everything series. I really loved Hill & Andi’s love story. They are both such complex, multilayered characters that I felt so connected to by the end of this book. While this didn’t make me sob, I shed a few tears at different times, as each of Andi & Hill’s individual & joint stories hit me right in the feels. Roni sure knows how to make me feel connected to her characters & stories. I can’t wait to read more! 4.5/5 stars.
