Larkin is tired of her friends constantly trying to play Cupid. Just because they are all happily mated doesn't mean she needs to be. And she definitely doesn't need the over-protective men in her life vetting potential partners for her. In a bid to get them off her back, the harpy turns to the one person she knows they would never approve of . . .

Teague Sullivan. Explicitly sexy and unquestionably alpha male, the mysterious hellhound is the perfect candidate for a fake relationship. More than happy to spend time with the pretty harpy, Teague agrees. But when a wager is made between them, and things start to heat up, Larkin can't seem to ignore their explosive chemistry- and neither can her demon.

But when old and new dangers creep up on them, and Teague's shady past starts to ring alarm bells; he must decide whether to trust Larkin completely or risk losing her forever.

4 Smut Scale Stars

If you've followed me for any length of time, you know I love this author and adore this series. In fact, I am completely incapable of providing wholly unbiased feedback here, so FYI. That said, I looked forward to this book for a long time and it definitely delivered.

I've loved Teague since we originally met him as Khloe's anchor many books ago and the added element of his mysterious background here was a lot of fun. I loved meeting his clan and their story.

I am also a sucker for a fake dating situation any day of the week, so that was fun too.

I will say that this book didn't grip me like they normally do...I found my mind wandering on occasion...but I think that's just me as I've been under a lot of personal stress lately.

Regardless, another win in my book.

Really hope Viper/Ella are next. The wait begins.

“You’ve never been in a relationship.”
“I came close to it once.”
“Really? What happened there?”
Exhaling a sad sigh, he lowered his cup to the coaster. “Not much. She and I didn’t have much in common. I’m loud and social. She was quiet and inflatable. It was never going to work out.”

OMG Teague! He's just a big, playful, flirty, weird, clueless himbo - and his banter with Larkin was great. Teague was described as the bro version of Khloé but that's not totally accurate - he's his own special brand of bonkers.

This book wasn't perfect but I had so much damn fun reading it!

○ The fake dating premise is a bit weak - but aren't they all? I like this trope, so I just rolled with it. 🤪
○ Larkin wasn't super compelling on her own - she plays the "comedic foil" - and it's tricky to make that type of character interesting. (I talk about this a bit in my Omens review.) But! Her demon totally made up for it. The demon was completely unhinged, and had an enthusiasm for violence that was almost childlike. (Which makes sense, considering her issues.)
○ Like all the MMCs Suzanne wrights (haha), Teague is dominant in the sack, but not in the edging/bossy way most of them have. Instead, he has a sort of steamroller style that was unique and 🥵. (Everything is consenting ofc.)
○ Nobody really rescues each other. As you'd expect, both of them are powerful and hold their own when things go "tits up" as SW likes to say! 😂
○ I found Teague's hellhorse pack kind of annoying but they grew on me by the end.
○ Teague was so clueless about relationships that he (spoiler:) This may sound weird but it was freaking hilarious! Until it dragged on too long. It took
○ I think this is supposed to be the last book of the series? (spoiler)

I have no words to express how much I enjoyed this book.
God, Teague was a complete nutcase! He even surpassed Khloe and we all know how crack she is.

Lark and Teague’s banter was top tier. I couldn’t get enough of them. They were the classic case of opposite attract. But somehow they match.

I loved that Teague’s love language was riling her up. He takes so much pride in it. His goal to give her a temporary eye twitch with all his antics had me snickering on every page. And don’t get me started on Lark’s demon. It was altogether another level of crazy and a perfect partner for Teague. I adored that all my favourite couples from the series showed up and added so much flavour to the story.

This series is my absolute favourite and Lark and Teague didn’t disappoint. Grumpy to his charming ways, Lark was a badass throughout the book. I loved how she schemed against him in the second half. And when she finally revealed it to him, I was hooting with laughter.
Can’t wait to read Viper’s book.

—Powerful demons and more.
—reverse grumpy x sunshine.
—golden retriever x black cat
—badass FMC.
—fake dating, found family, hilarious banter.
—could be read as standalone but i highly recommend reading in order because this series is worth it.

Woo! That took some doing to get finished. See, the endless dialogue and banter got old PDQ and I was bored a fair bit of the time.

Didn't hate it, but certainly didn't love it. 🤷‍♀️

This is the best book this author has written in a while, and Teague is the second best hero in this series (after Knox). I'm not sure if it's really a 4 star read, but it was exactly what I was in the mood for, and I had a good time reading it.

This could maybe be read as a standalone, but it would be more enjoyable and make more sense if you’ve read the rest of this series (but, Reaper is the dud. Skip that). This is a PNR read about demons in modern day Las Vegas: Larkin, a harpy (who is one of Knox’s guards), and Teague, a hellhorse (who is Khloe’s anchor). They’ve flirted in past books, since they’re in the same friend group. Now they’re fake dating, while dealing with threats from both of their pasts.

It's no secret that Suzanne Wright sticks to a similar formula in her books: her heroines have similar sassy personalities. Her heroes have similar alpha personalities. They usually get together about halfway through the story, while dealing with outside conflict, like murder attempts coming at them from multiple sides.

This book is no different, but some of the ingredients have a fresh spin. Like the fake dating part. I could take or leave that trope, but it’s handled well, here (and it kind of felt like a supernatural spin on one of her other best books, The Favor). Teague is slightly more laid back, goofy, and fun than some of Wright’s past grumpy and taciturn heroes. He works better for me than Maddox in Fallen – I didn’t dislike Maddox as a hero, but he felt too much like a knock-off of Knox. Teague feels different enough from Knox (even though he’s still the basic Suzanne Wright hero “type”). And, Larkin pursues the relationship a bit more than some past heroines, which is new. I enjoyed how devious she is, and how unhinged her demon is.

All of the heroines in this series are pretty good, but Larkin is the best one since Harper. Teague also has more mystery to his backstory than I was expecting, but it’s a nice surprise. His situation is interesting, and it involves mythology that I've always liked.

It was also lovely that Larkin calls Knox, Tanner, Levi, and Keenan her “brothers.” I don’t remember them calling her their “sister” in their books, but it added a sweetness to their found family. Each of them (and most importantly, Knox) got some good scenes being protective of her.

Anyway, if you’re getting tired of this author’s formula, this probably won’t change your mind. It’s still very much a Suzanne Wright book. But, if you enjoy her, this is one of her better ones. Sometimes it can feel like she's phoning it in, like her other recent book When He’s Torn. But for the most part, this book is firing on all cylinders.

There’s not much build up to Larkin and Teague’s relationship, they start fake dating immediately, and by chapter 2, there’s already a murder attempt. I liked that this didn’t waste time and jumped straight into the plot. There was still build-up to them getting together for real. But, if you skipped previous books (which had some build up, in the sense that we got to see the attraction between Larkin and Teague), then their relationship might feel too sudden and underdeveloped. I could have used a bit more lead-up, maybe. But, I had fun reading this and will probably re-read it, so it still gets 4 stars. They have good chemistry, and their subtle differences from some of her past couples made them feel distinctive enough.

When this author is at her best, her books are fun, charming, and have a good mix of likeable characters, steam, plot, action, and funny moments. This book is one of her better reads. It's nothing especially deep or memorable or amazing, but it's just a good time. If you're in the mood for a PNR read that delivers, this hits the spot. Aside from the dud of Levi's book, this series is still going strong. I’m excited to read Viper’s book when it comes out.

This was a heck of a lot of fun, and put Larkin/Teague up there as one of my favorite couples of the series. I really enjoyed how they were both alphas and were comfortable with that. So many books that start with two really dominant leads end up squashing one a bit to suit the other (usually the FMC gets squashed to suit the MMC), but that wasn't the case here.

Though I've gotta say, I almost thought it was going to be.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on it. Super fun, and continues to reward me for this author being auto-buy. Can't wait to see what happens next, with Ella and Viper.

My ratings on this series is rapidly lowering the longer it goes on.

I don’t feel like the Larkin we met in the other books is the same we got in this one. She never seemed crazy and outspoken in the others, more like she was silently amused by other people. And I didn’t know her demon had a reputation known by everyone for being intimidating and insane.
I also didn’t feel like she was close to the girls in the other books, but in this she was constantly partying with them, and having movie nights and stuff.
I also didn’t feel like the sentinels and Knox were overprotective of Larkin in any way previously, but in this book they were all over her. She also referred to them as her brothers which felt weird because I don’t remember them ever referring to her as their sister, or necessarily the others as their brothers.

Teague wasn’t a realistic love interest in my opinion. We didn’t know much about him. He was barely a part of Khloe and Kellan’s book, even though he is Khloe’s anchor. So it felt weird to read about him as if we just knew him.
This includes his clan. They just showed up out of nowhere. I don’t remember ever hearing about them before.
I feel like we need to know the characters at a certain level before we get to their books. And I feel like the first four, who all focused on Harper and Knox should have done that, simply because the books are too short to fully get to know a character basically from scratch.

I also feel like they miss their characteristics when we move on from their books. Harper was one of my favourite characters to ever read about. But I feel like she lost certain elements of herself when she was no longer the lead character. Same with Knox who was intimidating and powerful at first. And now it’s not the same. Maybe it’s done so he doesn’t steal the show by easily fixing everyone’s problems, since he is so powerful. But it just isn’t done right, you know?

World building wise, their secrets are driving me insane. I understood keeping Knox’s secret in the beginning, and I understood why Harper didn’t tell her friends when she found out. But then som of her friends mated with the sentinels who also knew the secret, and yet it remained a secret. And I felt like they were never included, but always sort of on the outside of the group. Then Rainy kept secrets about Maddox, then Larkin about Teague and his clan, and even Teague is keeping secrets about those Angel demon MC guys from Larkin!
Not to mention how Knox’s sentinels knows about Harper’s ability to call on the flames of hell, but her best friends don’t.
It is just a hot mess at this point, and I feel like they will never know each other’s secrets.
I feel like they can never call on anyone or receive help from each other because secrets need to be kept. It was like how Khloe almost died in her own book because Knox hesitated to use his powers, because his secret would be out.

I also have to mention how I don’t understand why Viper and Ella will get their own book in this series.
I don’t feel like either of them have enough of a tie to the original group to be a part of it. It would have been better with a spinoff series for sure, where these original characters aren’t really involved anymore.
The group is just becoming so big it gets crowded in scenes trying to include everyone. And like I have stated I feel like the author isn’t doing a good enough job of preserving the characteristics of all these different people, and they only end up as background noice.

I love this series.

I loved how the author wrote about a couple in a new way when they are not fated or watch other anchors.

It was fun and steamy. I also loved revisting all the side characters from previous books.

If you like PBR books, check this series out.

3.5 stars!

I liked this book, I enjoyed Larkin and Teague's interactions and seeing their friendship develop into something more. The story was filled with action, amazing side characters, a kick-ass heroine, and an alpha hero... However, I didn't love this book.

I wanted a little more depth to the couple's interaction, especially from Teague, and there was something missing I can't quite put my finger on. I think the whole Teague being clueless for so long kinda threw me off and made him seem less of an alpha. But I'll read this book again in a few weeks and revisit this topic.

All in all, a good addition to the series, though not my favorite.

Also, I already CANNOT WAIT for Viper and Ella's book!!

Too Long Winded But Good

Prch Amz June 1, 2024

3.75 Stars

I loved the humor and both mc's, Larkin and Teague. I've wanted to read their story for a while.
There was a lot to love about this one.
A few different suspense areas and a small mystery as to who and what Teague is.
The sex scenes were very good. I liked the plot a lot.
BUT!
This has a lot of filler in it. Very long winded. Too much talk and thoughts by both mc's AND the 'Villain'.
Due to the laughter and the positive points I went with a 3.75 rounded up to 4 Stars.

3.5 stars!

I've been waiting for Larkin's story for quite awhile and while I did enjoy this...I didn't love it.
Which admittedly makes me really sad. The action was great and the story was mostly entertaining (although the addition of Holt seemed unnecessary) but Lark and Teague's connection was missing a...how do I explain it...Harper and Knox chemistry? Maddox and Raini passion?

Lark was the main pursuer and pusher and Teague, while an alpha, didn't have that alpha male punch like most of the demons in this series. Lark did most of the work in building something between them and Teague was along for the ride. He was more silly and ridiculous but I suppose that's his way.

Don't get me wrong...it was obvious Teague wanted Lark but sometimes I didn't feel it as much from him like I did with Lark and her demon. It was evident Teague's demon wanted to claim Lark but being a hellbeast meant he had no voice and conveying that without words is difficult and just didn't shine through.

Lark and Teague's demons never really had a standout moment together and I guess I wanted more burning passion and lust between them and their entities. That being said the moments where Teague was vulnerable with Lark was pretty swoon worthy and panty melting.

"He licked over the curve of her shoulder. “A bite mark would look good on you right here. My mark.” He put his mouth to her ear. “I want my venom in you. Want it flowing through your veins, where you’ll never get it out.”

Lark and her demon were cold and hard, and at times I felt like she didn't have many layers until Teague brought them out. She was kind of a bump on a log lol. Their banter was pretty good but I would have liked that banter to have manifested into something deeper between them.

“I’m a hellbeast, baby. When we claim something, we claim it very thoroughly. We put our mark all over it. And we don’t let it go.”

Lark and Teague may have started out in a fake relationship and fighting enemies that came their way but the more time they spent together the more Lark and her demon wiggled their way into Teague and his demon's soul. It's hard to say if Teague noticed how deeply Lark was burrowing into his skin but I'll pretend like he knew all along and was also an instigator in pushing their relationship forward. Otherwise it felt like he just said "o well fuck it, I'll keep you."

"He dropped his forehead to hers. “You have my loyalty in a way that no one else ever will. Not even my clan.”

As you know I love this series (I can read Harper and Knox's story forever) and I'm always happy when a sequel comes out.

Suzanne has a tried and tested recipe according to which she writes these pnr stories. Somehow they all look alike to me, and that's why I just can't give this story five stars.

2.5 Completely average. The author completely ruined the independent strong sentinel & turned her into an underhand manipulative little sister. I would’ve enjoyed the underhanded and manipulative qualities a bit more if the female main character was at least clever doing it. Larkin was stereotypical AF. It made her look desperate & the guy oblivious .

Hunted is book 9 in The Dark in You series and another fantastic addition. I loved this book from beginning to end. Larkin was an amazing h, she is strong, dangerous, vulnerable, and caring. I loved everything about her especially her Demon and how they both decided they were going to keep Teague. Teague was also great; he was loyal and really sexy. I loved his demon and how possessive he was of Larkin. Teague's clan was great, and I loved their secret. The only thing I was confused about was that Teague and his clan were worried about their secret getting out to Knox but how would Knox not know exactly what they all were especially since they knew what Knox is. Overall, this was an awesome book that I look forward to rereading and I hope to get a book on the Fallen Angels.

Don’t know y it took me this long to finish it. I acc did enjoy this book like I often find myself with Suzanne wright’s books. Teague might not be Knox, still I had adored the heck outta him.

Larkin was the more possessive one in this relationship which I liked (just like her ‘brothers’). That being said, would be better if Teague was more like….*spoiler* instead of Larkin moving her things slowly, he should have been doing that. But still I did enjoy the humour of it and how clueless he was.

Suzanne wright is a must read for me. Always n forever.

About this time last year I tried the sample and it didn't knock me off my socks.

BUT as I want to read Viper's book and the Black Saints MC and Viper and Ella had an interaction in this book I decided to go back to this one AND it worked this time round.

When you've commited to a series and your nine books it is hard to remember who the characters are especially Larkin & Teague as I always felt that they were on the side lines in the other books.

I felt in this book that SW didn't actually stick to her standard cookie cutter plot. Along the lines of if it ain't broke then don't fix it. For me things are different here.

Larkin as the heroine was portrayed differently then the other heroines in the series. She is one of my favourite heroines. She takes no crap, she is strong and loyal and her demon is nuts. She stands her ground and after what her anchor pulled he deserved to suffer a lot more. A heroine who can take care of herself.

Here again I felt Teague to be a different Hero than the previous Heroes in this series. He gave Larkin her space and wasn't that overbearing and here Larkin got to help the Hero save the day! The shock of it, mind blown. Teague has his secrets and maybe we will get a book about his clan?

Khloe lives up to her reputation of being a sneaky imp.

In the end I'm glad I read it.

Look. I don't want to say this was a missed opportunity because we all know Suzanne Wright was never going to take advantage of said opportunity, but I was disappointed anyway so the joke's on me.

I know I need to stop expecting this author to grow out of her internalized misogyny, overused character templates, and unfunny repetitive jokes, but I've managed to enjoy her Olympus Pack series despite that and can't seem to enjoy the recent additions to this series at all.

My main disappointment was the way Larkin's character did a complete 180 when she was forced into the "sensitive female" sexist stereotype even though she's an ACTUAL SENTINEL. I was thinking "finally there's a powerful woman who's older than the previous female heroines and is therefore probably mature and respected by the other characters", but what I got instead was a woman who is treated like a "little sister" to be protected like a delicate female instead of respected as a competent colleague. Making Larkin just another "one of the girls" who gets drunk with the other female MCs whose alpha male mate is then forced to come pick her up also really sets her apart from the other sentinels. The intention was probably not to make it feel like the other sentinels didn't respect Larkin, but when you add in the fact that Wright simply HAD to make Teague older and more powerful than Larkin even though that wasn't hinted at all in the previous books, I can't help but get the feeling that Wright is simply unable to write men and women as equals. The opportunity was there but was avoided with all the grace of a clunky U-turn.

I don't know why I keep reading these books because I've barely enjoyed any of them (with the exception of Fallen because I actually did like that one). It's probably not fair of me to continue to bash them when I'm the one who keeps choosing to read them, but it's just so frustrating when Wright's Olympus Pride series has actually shown her developing as an author, and this one is just so stagnant.

Also, I couldn't find it in myself to give a shit about Teague and the plot was boring. :)

Having never gotten much background about Larkin in previous books (it always felt like the male sentinels got a lot of exposure) , it was nice to finally learn more about her.

Teague was the perfect mate for her as he helped her not take herself so seriously and brought levity to their relationship.

I was worried about this one… especially after the disappointment of Reaper. Larkin hasn’t been around as much as the guys in previous books, she always seemed nice, but we didn’t get much personality from her… and I never really found her badass. Teague seemed a bit like a goof… sort of like Khloe and Keenan. I ended up liking them both, but it took a while to get going, and I put it down several times.

I’m not sure why I struggled so much, they agree to the fake dating within the first chapter and the first mystery/conflict is introduced by chapter 2… but I couldn’t get lost in it. It has the standard double conflict (a wannabe ex + someone trying to kill one of them) but it just took too long to gain momentum.

We get some from the OG’s, but there’re several new characters (Teague’s clan) thrown into the mix. (Gideon, Slade, Tucker, Archer, Saxon) and hints of a spinoff with the Fallen MC (that were in Raine’s book) Viper and Ella (Levi’s witch friend).

Bottom Line- Solid 3 ⭐’s for me. I enjoyed the last 40%, but the rest was a struggle at times. It felt about 100 pages too long… but my biggest disappointment was the lack of an epilogue. I had assumed this would be it for the series as we’ve went through all the major characters, and 9 books is quite long… so I expected an epilogue several years out similar to how she ended her Phoenix and Mercury Pack series… but nope… we got zero, zip, zilch, nada. 🤷‍♀️

'Awesome' is one word for it. 'Highly entertaining another. Throwing 'unexpected' in there too.

The last one is a hoot. Because generally Suzanne Wright goes for a set formula of plot with twists thrown into the mix (don’t get me wrong I love her books and they are a delight in every which way), but Hunted wasn't all that.

Perhaps because Teague was Teague—a male version of Khloe but with more charm and intrigue then crazy, thought he had that too.

And we had Larkin's demon which was a straight up psychopath.

This book was essentially a custom tailored version to these characters. I like they started out fake but molded so seamlessly into being a real thing that even I went like 'huh'?!? (Though Teague didn't know, it was quite entertaining to watch Larkin seamlessly navigate them both into a relationship.)

Wright has a way of not taking away from the dominance of her characters and rather making them work towards each other. Even with deep exposure, you never actually lose them to their "weaknesses".

I also love that we have an introduction to more characters who are equally crazy and powerful.

Looking forward to them all.

*Arc kindly provided in exchange for an honest review*

So, I had high hopes for this one, and let me say, it did not disappoint. This one is my fav out of the series. Sorry Knox.
I love Larkin and Teague as individuals and I love them together. This one is different in the sense that while they are both dominant, neither one tries to dominate the other. From the get go they work together and seem to know what each needs but also talk about it too.

One thing that I always wanted more of in the books was to see more of their demons. And Larkin’s demon stole the show. It is awesome! I loved every creepy second with it, and especially how Teague handles it.
There was also much more action throughout the book. I couldn’t put it down.

Can’t wait for Ella and Viper’s book next! Until then, I will enjoy each reread of Larkin and Teague

I cannot believe I am reading book nine in the series I can still remember the days I was waiting on Knox and Harpers book to come out because Suzanne would leave such torturous cliffhangers that you needed to have the next book in your hand immediately or you would combust.
I really don't think I witnessed Teague and Larkin as a couple it was more of a found family saga throughout not that I'm complaining I loved all the moments of all the guys being overbearing brothers to Larkin even though she hated it I loved all the moments Teague had with his hell horses clan then all the Asher moments and Anais moments were adorable but Teague and Larkin as a couple I didn't get much vibes from them in theory yes they gel together. the most interesting part of their relationship for me was when Larkins demon decided that now Teague is going to be theirs and they started reeling him in without even him realizing that was quite amazing actually it was fun I liked how sneaky and psychotic Larkins demon was but I did not get the same buzz from Teague as I did from Knox and I haven't from any other male main character in the series maybe it's a me thing because I like my mmc little broody so throughout these books my favorite couple has to be Keenan and Khloe because the dynamic was the best but the couple that gave me the most butterflies was Knox and Harper and Knox is my favorite mmc till now.
Suzanne takes up a common formula throughout these books and I enjoy that formula it always delivers well but maybe I was not that invested in the couple itself that was same with Levi and piper I have just felt that the series has been a little let down ever since fallen because Maddox was a huge disappointment for me as mmc given that he was hyped up so much we did not get any view into his powers and Levi just was a very boring character to me. as fun as Teague and Larkin were with each other and their random comical conversations were with each other I would have loved a lot more depth to their relationship instead of all the drama that was going on if the book focused on one villainous plot line instead of two that would have been much better and had given the couple more time to grow according to me

Almost 4 stars. This wasn’t my favorite from Wright, but it also wasn’t my least favorite either. One of the things that I love about this series are the secondary characters, and although all our faves were there, I felt like they were less potent than in previous books. Instead, Teague’s clan kind of replaced them. But they were less memorable (I couldn’t tell you one of their names or any of their character traits). Sometimes with Suzanne Wright books you don’t know who the bad guy is. That’s not the case here and there are no surprises in that regard. Also, there was no other woman drama, which is also something that’s pretty common in her books. Finally, although there are danger type situations, I never really get the sense that the characters are truly in danger, like you get with her other books. They always seemed to have everything well on hand. That said, I really liked both Larkin and Teague as characters. Larkin was super independent and strong and Teague had this laissez faire frivolity that I enjoyed. He’s definitely Khloe’s counterpart, which I loved cause she’s my favorite in the series.

There are quite a few books in the series at this point. But while the romance is a standalone, there are so many characters it may be hard to to understand what’s going on if you start here. Wright also does give a little Viper and Ella tease which I believe is the next book. All in all, I liked this, but it’s not terrible memorable. It was also maybe a little long, but pretty enjoyable nonetheless. Fans of Wright’s will probably enjoy this; however, if you’re looking to read her for the first time, I recommend starting at the beginning of this series.

I am not an unbiased reviewer when it comes to Suzanne Wright because I love everything she writes. She’s one of those authors where I buy it even before we know the title. As such, unsurprisingly, I whole-heartedly recommend this book.

To be honest, I was a little slow on reading this one because, while I liked Larkin, I never really feel for her like I did some of the other characters. She kind of blended in to the background too much. But, I can say that this book makes up for it. Not only is Larkin an absolute gem of a character, but her demon is probably my favorite demon. It’s unhinged and obsessive and I love it.

And Teague! He’s basically a male Khloe personality-wise:

“Why are you trying to drive me to the brink of insanity, Teague? Because it honestly feels like that’s what you’re aiming to do.”
“Why would I only drive you to the brink? I don’t half-ass shit, gorgeous.”

Together, they make one of the most unhinged couples I would love to see more from.

And, most excitingly, I think we were introduced to several new concepts and characters in this world that I believe Suzanne is setting us up for either a sub-verse or another spin-off series. Yay! (And fingers crossed!)

YESSSSSSS!!! I so hope there is more to come. There is still so much potential for more books in this series is amazingly ridiculous, and I love it.
