The last series I read that made me genuinely scared for the heroine is Penelope in Villains Are Destined to Die, andTHIS WAS SO INTENSE!!!! AHHHHHH!!
The last series I read that made me genuinely scared for the heroine is Penelope in Villains Are Destined to Die, and I was so unprepared for that kind of fear to wrap around me with Raeliana because IF SHE HAD DIED I WOULD HAVE RIOTED! OH MY GOODNESS!! Please creator and artist, spare her, Noah, and us any anxiety or worry for our sweet Raeliana in the next volume!!
Honestly, though, this entire volume was extremely good and was nonstop intensity from the opening page! With Raeliana FINALLY getting answers, I feel like the mystery and unraveling of the answers took center stage! And goodness, I was NOT expecting the answers we did get!! It was a twist I didn't see coming, that's for sure! Between that, stuff with the dark priestess, and then the revelations the closer we got to "the end," this volume had me glued to my seat and throw out my plan to go to bed on time! LOL!
While this wasn't an overly romantic volume, I will say there is one romance scene that had me squealing!!! EEEEEPPP!! Lots of small wonderful moments between Raeliana and Noah and so thankful that both of them are fighting for her to be in this world and them be together.
I was also really excited to see a "friendly" face again because they always crack me up, and that was especially true in this volume!
I think if you've been wanting answers just like Raeliana has, this volume is the one you NEED to read! Again, it was extremely intense because Raeliana knows everything now, but despite knowing, it leaves you on edge if she can KEEP everything. (I was so irked at that dark priestess saying she is the one who has to go! YOU JUST HELP RAELIANA AND NOT SAY STUFF LIKE THAT OKAY?!)
I'm excited and sad to know the next volume is the final volume, but I have zero doubts that it's going to be a really strong conclusion because each volume has been so good! It's also gotten more swoonworthy, gripping, and funny!
Here's to hoping that all of Raeliana's wishes will come true in the next volume!...more

Even if you don't become Prince Joseph's retainer, that doesn't take away from how hard you worked to get here. You can be proud of that…!"
I will NEVER tire of a heroine who, for the majority of her life, has been talked down to, bullied, and ostracized but still chooses to help those around her, especially those who were the same people who were mean to her! Maybe that's something "cliche" for shoujo manga, but no matter how many times I read it, I find it so incredibly inspiring and admirable!
That is definitely what happened here in the opening chapter and got teary-eyed with the quote above because right after Brigitte was ridiculed, she still put herself in danger and stepped in to help the Class President. I was with Yuri that I really rather her go to him (Yuri) for help rather than put herself in harm's way, but it's also her courage that makes me love her character so much, so I don't know. LOL! I DO hope though that she won't be in any more danger, but with how Lisa has it out for Brigitte, I don't feel that things are going to go smoothly…
And speaking of, I CANNOT STAND JOSEPH!!!! He was bad in volume one but he is SOOOO much worse in this volume and want to be like Lisa, why the heck are you with him if you're SCARED of how he acts when you make him angry?! Such an unhealthy relationship and hope we don't see much of them next volume!
Past the opening chapter, I was THRIVING with all the sweet romance moments and need Brigitte and Yuri to just hurry up and get together!!! LOL! Yuri may be subtle in his feelings, but I have no doubts he knew what he was doing when giving that gift to Brigitte at the end!! EEEEEPPPP!!
There were definitely several other moments and revelations that I loved in this volume, but I will stop there because much of what I want to talk about is spoilers, but please know this is a worthy sequel that is just as good as volume one!! I'm overjoyed to know volume three comes out early next year because I will be picking it up and reading it!!...more

Not saying I waI really feel like this is the volume where the series really starts to take shape and has me much more invested in all the characters!
Not saying I wasn't before since I've read this series digitally 3 to 4 times already, but this is the part/volume where I just couldn't stop reading! I think a large part of that is because we're seeing more of Yamada and how kind he is as a person. He was before now too, but it's much more obvious that just because he may say something "cold," it doesn't mean that he IS cold.
Akane is wonderful as usual!! I really found her relatable when she was sick and getting so worked up because girl SAMEEEE! I'm so emotional and cry about everything, and so I saw a lot of myself in her. My heart hurt for her though when she thought Yamada helping her was just a dream. ...more

Oh my goodnI had very high expectations when started this volume because I had heard nothing but glowing things about it, and I was not disappointed!!
Oh my goodness, there was so much I loved about it that I'm not sure I could convey everything because it was wonderful in every way!
I guess a good place TO start is with our heroine Hana who is SOOOOO relatable!! I truly do love it when a story starts with a female lead comparing her life to a shoujo manga because even if in this case Hana felt like she never will have her own shoujo love story, I know that by the end she will. It feels like a sweet foreshadowing that makes the heartache worth it because I was sooooo sad to see how unkind she was to herself! ...more
"No matter how strong your regrets are…they aren't all there is to you."
This is one of those reads where while I liked the characters and the story it"No matter how strong your regrets are…they aren't all there is to you."
This is one of those reads where while I liked the characters and the story itself, it was the themes that really spoke to my heart and made me want to keep reading.
I feel that's an odd thing to say because you can't have the themes without the characters, but I confess after reading what would have been considered volume one, I was not OVERLY hooked. Did I like what I read and thought it was cute? I did, but I wasn't sure if I would have actively picked up volume two if it hadn't been in an omnibus form.
It was with volume two that I felt myself leaning in, ignoring my surroundings because I was invested in the themes AND the characters. There was something very heartfelt and relatable about seeing these two workaholics be there for one another and reminding each other to live life to the fullest. It's a funny thing to say considering that one of the said main characters is the god of the underworld. LOL!
Concerning the female lead, Colette was a wonderful heroine who I thought was very grounding and again, was very relatable, even though it was shocking that this series opens up with her seeming like she is going/wanting to take her life. I think it was times like that though where you can see and feel the questioning of "why do I keep doing this?" and her bouts of loneliness and pain that made her feel more than just a character in a fictional story. There were many quotes by her that I wrote down because they encouraged me to live my life to the fullest, be proud of my job/what I do, and not let my regrets from the past dictate my life in the present.
In short, this was an unexpected thought-provoking story that, while very cute and fun, really touched my heart and made me tear up more than once.
I'm eagerly looking forward to the next omnibus because I definitely see myself coming back to this when I need a pic-me-up as well as a fun story!...more

I LOVED the story itself and all of the characters, but do you know the thing that MOST spoke to me about this story?
The power of shoujo.
Maybe that sounds really silly, but seeing how shoujo manga really has the power to influence readers feels like such a special thing. I have very much felt that personally, but seeing it shown in Aoi's life in just this first volume really touched and warmed my heart. It truly made me feel seen even as an adult in how shoujo manga has encouraged me through heroines that may feel like they don't have much self-worth only to grow and change because of the people around them and internal realizations that they DO have worth.
Now for the story, I loved EVERYTHING! However, that ending with Sena was SOOOOOOO good!!! I'm HYPED for the next volume, especially with all the warm fuzzies I felt and squealing I did when reading!
Aoi's family is really fun and love how much her older brother cares for her! Her mom definitely does too, and think you could really see that by the end. <3
Sena is a great male lead and really loved how he is being there for Aoi and is cheering for her.
This was definitely a very strong and amazing first volume! It felt so magical in its own special way and made me excited to be a shoujo manga reader! Definitely going to be recommending this one and definitely going to be preordering future volumes! ...more

Seriously, this series just shows that you don't have to have a time skip when the leads move in and live together because I am LOVING it!! The awkward moments of first moving in and living together were SO relatable! I especially loved it when Yuki said, "I think I'm going to die a few more times before this is done…" LOL!! Poor Yuki, but I'm SO excited for her and Itsuomi living together and thought it was so touching how they made their own sign!! They are so deeply in love and hope they continue to always have this open communication they have always shown, but especially in this volume!
However, in the last volume, it was revealed that Itsuomi is keeping a secret from Yuki, but I think based on how things ended, everything is going to come to light in the next volume? I confess I'm slightly nervous. Not because I think it will hurt their relationship, but because Itsuomi is so free-spirited, and seeing him not be is…concerning. I mean we see him get bummed that Oushi doesn't view him as a friend because he is just so chill and laid back even about things some guy likes his girlfriend! LOL!
Speaking of, I am LOVING the growth that is happening in the side characters! Oushi and Shin hitting it off was not something I knew I needed until I saw it, but I'm totally here for it! LOL! Also seeing Emma and Shin…SQUEALS! So so so good!
Definitely another very wonderful and fantastic volume (which I read twice LOL)! I'm hoping volume eleven doesn't take TOO long to release because I desperately need it!...more

I'm going to leave my original review and rating because I loved this volume a lot, but as of right now I will not be getting volume two until I see more reviews/hear thoughts from friends before picking it up.
Original Review: My first thought after reading this is who says that villainesses aren't the only ones who have fun because our heroine here is having a blast!
And not just her, but I loved reading this!
The art was the first thing that caught my attention because everyone is so incredibly gorgeous! I really loved how everyone and everything was drawn and definitely can't wait to see more of the story drawn out!
When it came to Reine, I loved her! I'm so excited for her and how she is taking this second chance to live our her life to the fullest and doing all she can to grow and change. It was obvious by the end that she was not who she was in the beginning and that her efforts were really paying off when it came to magic and knowledge. I truly hope it will pay off too with her interacting with some of the love interests because I admire how she says good morning to the prince, only to be brushed off every. single. day. Like you go girl!
When it comes to Julius, I really like him as a character! I am deeply confused about how exactly he is related to Reine or if he is at all because it feels like there is very important information being withheld from her and the reader. Because of this, I told myself not to think about their relation to one another because I honestly just don't know. I want to say they aren't because as Reine pointed out they look nothing alike but that doesn't have to mean anything in a fantasy world. LOL!
My speculation is that she isn't related to anyone in the family because she doesn't look like her father and it's obvious she is treated with disdain among everyone (minus Julius). I guess time will tell if that's true, but I can say that I'm fully on board with reading more as I really liked all the guys and our heroine. I'm fully cheering for you, Reine, and hoping for nothing but the best!
Also, right now I'm #TeamYoshida because even though he was grumpy, I loved him! LOL!

I was a little nervous with the introduction of a new character right from the start that they might steal the "spotlight" from our leads, but oh my goodness I LOVED her and her pet dog! While I definitely don't want her stealing the show, I was absolutely thrilled to see more of her as the volume progressed! I also don't think she'll be going anywhere and desperately hoping things take a glowing turn in volume three! Hehe!
I really love how in volume we got Tsubu-chan's backstory with Chiharu and her raising him, and how now in volume two we are getting Monjuro's backstory with our two brothers. I honestly was surprised to see how we even got some of Kiyotaka's brother's backstory too! It was heartfelt, to say the least, and was equally moved and had warm fuzzies. <3
The art is wonderful and I'm VERY excited for this new development between our leads! It's definitely a slow burn romance, but not TOO slow in my opinion. Having our wonderful doggos around really brings some fun humor and delight with each page!
EAGERLY looking forward to volume three and hope we will get it sooner rather than later because I need to see more of everyone and their adorable dogs! Highly recommend it if you're looking for a feel-good josei with dogs!...more

This was another really really good volume and was impressed with how things were handled! Suzumura's reaction to finding out about his mom felt extremely realistic, but I thought it interesting how he also really thought of Nanami's words in that she could "fill that gap" in potentially confronting his mom and saying whatever he wanted her to. That he didn't need to push or pressure himself to meet her because she was there for him and wanted him to have his "peace" so to speak. He might have originally said they needed to investigate more before making a decision for the sake of his "good naps," but it was obvious there was more to it.
One thing that really stood out to me when reading is that while Suzumura has always thought about what actions to take in different situations, how much he really reflected on his feelings and if he had anything to say to his mom and the outcome of it was really surprising to me. I don't think Nanami realizes how much she really means to him and how her presence has made a huge impact on his life.
I'm excited about the upcoming arc and how things will unfold! I think it's going to be a really fun one and I'm looking forward to future developments!...more

I sort of want to read more because I haven't met all the "love interests," but literally the two guys we met are absolute garbage and 1000000% get Melissa's rage towards them. There is literally nothing positive to say about either one of them and felt so frustrated by the end because of their actions.
I guess on the flip side, this manwha really creates an interesting sense of compassion towards Melissa because of how stupid the guys are. I feel I don't really know her as a female lead simply because she's angry every single page and almost every single moment. We know what she wants to accomplish, but it's hard for me to see how she'll get there especially if the next two guys are as crappy as the first set.
I will give credit to this story for how dang funny it was though! Lots of hilarious expressions and it was fun to flip through and show my husband because I don't think I've ever read a story with that wide of a range of emotions in a handful of pages alone!
It just stinks that I really don't know if I could handle reading another volume when the guys tick me off so much. ...more

For a large part of this volume, I felt some angst and worry that Uka would have a long-drawn-out journey of realizing what her feelings were for Kai, making it last for several volumes. While I think it would be valid if it did take Uka time to work through her feelings, that was something I was not personally looking forward to reading today.
Thankfully I was proven wrong in that her long-drawn out journey was just for this volume!
And not only that, the ending gave me butterflies!! EEEEEPPP!!
I'm definitely not a fan of Marin at all. She needs to stay away from Uka because it's obvious (and it's even stated) that she does NOT view Uka as a friend and hated how she tried "hooking her up" in the beginning. She didn't even come to defend her when Marin's friends were so rude to Uka calling her weirdo and being grossed out that Uka may like them. Like, excuse me?!
I feel Kai handled that situation so well because I wouldn't have reacted at all like he did. Not when they called her names, and not when the truth came out about Uka's feelings either. And speaking of, Kai continues to be an interesting character. I was slightly offended when he put a "name" to their relationship because I feel he has made it known (at least to the reader) that he views Uka as something more than a friend, but he also hasn't really done anything to make it seem like he does, in fact, feel that way?
However, there was a scene where I think it shows that Kai is taking things slow because that ending spoke SO much of how he DOES feel!! Goodness, even before that when Uka's feelings overflowed and she said what was on her heart, we also saw his feelings! Both scenes were amazing and I really admired how Uka finally faced Kai and shared her heart (because I think the first time doesn't count given the situation LOL). Shoutout to Ayumi for being such an encouraging and supportive friend to help Uka continue to move forward! <3
I would love to reread this volume again knowing how the volume ends so I wouldn't be so anxious and could really appreciate the build-up. LOL! The ending was easily my favorite part and very curious and excited to see where this story goes!...more

I have some mixed feelings on this, but as a whole, I really really loved reading this!
I thought Alicia was an incredibly fun villainess and really really loved how hardworking she was! I thought it was a fun and heartfelt moment when she thinks about what the heroine would do in helping people and is like, "Wait, I can't let her beat me! I'll do something even better!" and she ends up doing something really great. I know the times she speaks as a villainess were hilarious and felt so bad for her Dad because of the horror that hit me as a mom when seeing what she was saying to the KING of all people! LOL!
All of that was really really fantastic! The mixed feelings came in because I was very uncomfortable with how intense one of the love interests stared at Alicia. She was either 7 or 8 at the time and he was 12, and he would intently watch her practice her swordsmanship. Not in a way where you are evaluating your "enemy's" fighting, but in a way of I-want-to-get-to-know-this-girl-better-because-I-like-her…
Now if I thought I was just overthinking the way he looked at her, then I do strongly feel the bonus story confirmed my feelings were right. I was willing to overlook the beginning because I was able to "justify" that he was just staring, but when Alicia gets feverish and is unable to take her medicine/drink water, (view spoiler). (Mind you she is STILL young but I do believe two years had passed so she was a LITTLE older, but not THAT much older.)
I confess I almost dropped the book right then and there because of how uncomfortable it made me. I realize that if they were both older it wouldn't be a problem, but for her to be so young is something I struggle to see any kind of romance in.
The only reason I kept reading is because again, I really really like Alicia! She is a super fun villainess to follow because all she wants to be is a villainess and cares nothing about the heroine. Even when the two are forced together she makes it known she doesn't want to do anything with her, so I liked that (especially since she wasn't being a bully, just incredibly blunt)!
I even really liked how Alicia wants to help those "underneath her status" and isn't afraid to call out the King and the way things are done because people are part of the nobility. That was awesome and really loved seeing how Alicia refused to give up or make excuses why she couldn't do things.
But that "romance" leaves me feeling deeply unsure if I'll continue reading or not. If it was just staring and then he made a move when she was older, okay, I could live with that, but with her so young, it doesn't sit right.
I think if what I shared directly above doesn't bother you, then this is definitely a villainess story I would recommend! I don't think a lot "happened" in this first volume, but it was fun and very engaging and I am interested in wanting to see what happens next!...more

I was hoping I would enjoy it and I VERY much did enjoy it! I honestly didn't expect to read it in one sitting, but once I started, I couldn't put it down!
Firstly, the story is good (and I'll talk more about that in a moment), but the colored art is STUNNING! This manga is a feast for the eyes visually and honestly, I felt overwhelmed at times because the art is so bright and colorful, and didn't know where to focus because I wanted to focus on EVERYTHING! I was surprised by the smaller attention to detail such as buildings in the distance and the tiny stars to bring the galaxy to life, but they were always there from start to finish. Even during the big fights closer to the end, the sense of texture and the vividness of each of the pipes were incredible. Truly, I have never read a manga as colorful as this one where it felt like at times my eyes were seeing all the colors of the rainbow on page!
Secondly (and going back to), the story was extremely engaging! I thought this might be a romance, but I would say that it is very much on the back burner. While many of Sazan's motivations center around his love for Mina, it took her a longgg time to take him out of the "friend zone." LOL! So I think if you like a non-focused romantic sci-fi story, this is definitely one I would check out!
Mina was an AMAZING character and I can totally see why Sazan fell for her! She was so so so cool at numerous parts of this story that I couldn't help getting excited to see her show off her strength! Many times Sazan's excitement in seeing her kick butt matched my own and found a relatability with him because SAME!
Sazan himself had such satisfying character growth! It felt so subtle and steady-going that it wasn't by the end that I fully realized just how much he HAD grown because it just felt normal to see him get stronger and braver. I loved it and was definitely touched by how much he was willing to help Mina despite being one of the weakest races/species in this story world.
When it comes to other characters, I never imagined I would like Kidd and the crew! He had some amazing character growth as well and really became a huge fan of them by the end!
The story itself was extremely engaging and I was worried with how long this manga is that I might find a moment boring, but I never did. There is SO much action that keeps you on the edge of your seat and "dreaded" anticipation of wondering if Mina fully runs out of energy or strength and what will happen if/when she does. There was also the worry and concern of the whole AI-related plot, which I was completely caught off guard by.
Overall, this was such a wonderful read!! I would love to come back to it again and not get so swept away by the art and focus more on the story, but both were so good, and enjoyed both! LOL! Definitely would recommend it if you're looking for a josei manga with a VERY light romantic subplot that is never the focus, a scifi story, and/or really really colorful and good art!...more

But since meeting Mr. Iwai and the hearts of many other people I learned that hearing if something is a lie doesn't mean you know the truth."
I give the creator huge credit because when I first started volume one, I so wanted a romance between our leads. However, the more I read, the more I was so happy with the friendship they had that I didn't even want a romance! Yet, with the last volume, it was obvious this story would lean towards a romantic shift and I felt VERY mixed feelings on that. So much so, that I worried I would be so upset about it that I would drop this series.
That might sound extreme, but thankfully no extreme measures were taken because the way this volume unfolded when it came to the romance was SO well written! I thought it might feel or be rushed, but there was such a natural progression of feelings that I was thoroughly shocked and happy with how it unfolded!
I was even caught off guard by how these two being separated in this volume seemed to really help both our leads admit what their feelings are for the other! Truly, it was all so well done and I decided to give this volume five stars because of how unconvinced I felt I would be before reading this volume.
Unrelated to the romance though, hearing Mr. Shiro's story was heartbreaking. The way he conveyed his heart and the things he shared with Kanako has been unlike anything thus far. Sure, there have been emotional cases solved and such, but how can you lie when you don't have any truth to tell or say? What a painful way to live and I was glad Kanako was there with Mr. Shiro even though I have no idea how this series is going to unfold!
Overall, this was such a touching volume and eagerly looking forward to how it will unfold! I'm definitely hoping that Mr. Shiro will find healing and that it will be a happy ending for our leads!...more
