I loved these, they make a great collection of stories. Amanda Meuwissen is one of my favorites, and her Silhouette was lovely. Mobster meets dancer and is entranced. Shannon West’s Take a Chance on Me was another amazing story. Disguising yourself to act as your crush’s escort to a party can’t possibly go wrong, right?

All of the stories were creative and satisfying. You won’t regret getting drawn in!

This anthology is part of a charity project to help celebrate International Take A Chance Day. Seventeen authors came together to write stories outside their comfort zones to explore gender and sexuality aspects that span the whole spectrum and genres from contemporary to sci fi to paranormal and relationships of all kinds, and with all proceeds going to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

As in all anthologies there are stories you enjoy more than others, but all were very well written and added something unique. My favorites were Desert Knight by D.G. Carothers, Alien Attraction by Gianni Holmes, The Twilight Hours by KC Luck, Always and Only You by Claire Marta and Abrianna Denae and The Sweetest Ache by Bretton Sans.

Desert Knight by D.G. Carothers was a sweet sci fi story containing intelligent species of all shapes, cuddle parties and a very sexy lavender skinned male with boundary issues who the space PI Tekken Mcallister can’t help falling in love with when helping him find his missing uncle and stumbling into a case of futuristic sex trafficking. Very unique but so adorable!

Alien Attraction by Gianni Holmes was another unique but adorable story about true love defying all obstacles, when an alien prince finds his chosen one in a human man and ends up fighting for his inter-species love story and the life of his unborn children.

In The Twilight Hours by KC Luck we returned to earth again in a story about how it’s never too late to find love and happiness when 60+ women Helen and Mel meets by chance at a remote campground.

Always and Only You by Claire Marta and Abrianna Denae was my absolute favorite of all the stories. It was such a gripping and heartfelt story about a lost love and second chances when Dallas comes back as a transgender man to the only boy he’s ever loved, but who he couldn’t be with until he finally was his true self. It was so raw and authentic in the way Dallas had to feel at home in his own body before he could meet Ward again. It was so beautiful about souls understanding each other, about the chemistry between Dallas and Ward and about the two of them being soul mates not because they were perfect but because their combined flaws pieced them together.

The Sweetest Ache by Bretton Sans was another gorgeous second chance romance. The Summer after high school, Travis kissed his best friend Spencer, but the next week he left for an LDS Church mission and never pretended it happened. Ten years later, he returns as a famous musician, finally out and ready for a relationship. Despite his fear of getting heart-broken all over again, Spencer agrees to go for a hike with Travis. I really loved this low-angst romance and the cute bantering between Travis and Spencer, but also the vulnerability and the sweetness between the two of them exploring what they could have had already ten years ago, if Church and other people’s opinions hadn’t stopped them.

Some of the stories were perhaps a little too much out of my comfort zone, and the anthology as a whole was a bit long; the stories were all a bit longer than usual and added up to a quite massive read in total.

But all in all, I recommend this anthology with all my heart! It’s such a unique collection of amazing stories all showing in different ways that love truly is love and doesn’t see any gender, race or sexuality!

Thank you to Gay Book Promotions for the blog tour invitation for this wonderful book! All opinions are my own and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

Taking a chance: Charity Anthology is a collection of stories by various authors. Here is the list of stories and who wrote them:

Desert Knight by D.G. Carothers
Taking A Leap by Toshi Drake
When Clyde Met Hay by C.W.Gray
Playing for Keeps by K.L. Hiers
Alien Attraction by Gianni Holmes
In The Twilight Hours by KC Luck
Evan’s Awakening by G.R. Lyons
Always and Only You by Claire Marta and Abrianna Denae
Silhouette by Amanda Meuwissen
A Dark Half by Shane K. Morton

The Sweetest Ache by Bretton Sans
Love’s Heart Print by JP Sayle
Catch Me If You Can by Lynn Van Dorn
Take A Chance On Me by Shannon West
Taking The Leap by Toby Wise

All proceeds go to AIDs Healthcare Foundation. There are 17 different authors, and they have different genres in here too. You are sure to find something you can fall in love with. Also, this is the great way to read a story from an author you might never have heard about before.

I am going to review my two favorites. I will say that there is not a story I didn’t love in this anthology. Really is a well done and well thought out anthology.

Okay, my picks:

Alien Attraction by Gianni Holmes, this story is told in dual POV. This one is funny, sweet, and full of love.

Avery is happily in love with Kyp. That is until Kyp tells him that he is an alien like from outer space kind. Now Avery thinks his lover has gone off the deep end.

Kyp knows he should end this relationship before Avery gets hurt. But he loves Avery.

This story does have some flaws but overall, this is a cute fun story I personally loved.

My next pick is:

Taking A Chance on Me by author Shannon West. Dexter has his hands full. He has two part-time jobs and is now applying for a third. He goes to college as well; he has no time for love. He doesn’t have much time to even sleep.

Zach, he is the best-looking guy at the college. Dexter is in love with him since high school. He is a confident boy who goes after what he wants, unlike Dexter.

This story is cute, hotter than anything, and quirky. Taking a Chance on Me will leave you breathless.

Overall, I loved these stories and would look for more from these authors in the future.

4.5 Stars!

Taking a Chance is a collection of MM & FF stories by several authors, ranging through all the LGBTQ spectrum, in several genres, tropes, and themes where it's guaranteed there'll be something for everybody, and bonus, all proceeds go to a very worthy cause, the AIDs Healthcare Foundation. It's win-win!

There's Sci-Fi, Contemporary, Adventure, Paranormal, and even M-Preg, for the more adventurous readers. There's sweet, there's more risqué, different levels of heat and intensity, but all have one thing in common, they're well-written and even if there are several authors I hadn't read before or heard about, now that they're on my radar, you can be sure I'll be keeping an eye out for their books.

My favorites, in no particular order, were Desert Knight by D.G. Carothers, Silhouette by Amanda Meuwissen, Love’s Heart Print by JP Sayle, and Catch Me If You Can by Lynn Van Dorn, but I can assure you all the rest were really good as well, and I have no trouble recommending them and this fantastic collection.

This anthology was amazing. If I didn’t know that the authors had written outside their normal genres from the blurb, I never would’ve guessed. Each story is unique with captivating characters and rich worlds. The plots were engaging and well paced. I loved that each story had a little intro, which gave you an idea of what to expect in the following pages, making it easy to pick and choose what to read. There’s a little something for everyone in this, so don’t let the chance to grab this anthology pass you by!

Taking A Chance: Charity Anthology, Various Authors.
Seventeen authors have responded to the prompt “take a chance” to write short stories. All main characters, and pairings are queer, across the spectrum. The stories range from contemporary, to paranormal, and science fiction. All proceeds will be donated to the AIDs Healthcare Foundation. Anthology will only be available for a limited time. Anthologies offer the chance to find something new, there are likely to be stories you love, ones that you find enjoyable, and others that aren’t really your thing. I received an Advanced reader copy (ARC) of this anthology, in exchange I am posting an honest review. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this anthology. I do recommend grabbing a copy, the profits go towards healthcare, the stories are great, and you are likely to find a gem. I will share my thoughts on a few of the individual stories.

Desert Knight by D.G. Carothers
“A galaxy station at the fringes of the universe” is the setting for this futuristic space noir mystery that brings together Tekken and Summer. This was the first story I read, and I loved it. The setting, various species, and characters are interesting. There is adult language, situations, and depictions of sex trafficking. I loved Tekken and Summer, bother were kind, caring, and doing the absolute most they could to take care of others. The connection between them was wonderful. I enjoyed the story as it was, and would look forward to further adventures.

Taking A Leap by Toshi Drake
MX Hurt comfort on a starstation. Trest is a neurodiverse engineer on a vacation he sees as a possible punishment, after an ‘incident’ on his home ship. Zoagashta is a rainbow coloured Asyran. They are adorable and sweet together. I enjoyed the world building, particularly the technical aspects of the space station.

When Clyde Met Hay by C.W.Gray
MM Science fiction, fated mate between two individuals with hurt and trauma in their pasts find love, hope, and a future together.

Playing for Keeps by K.L. Hiers
A personal favourite. Two artists with very different personalities find heat, kink, and love together. This story was MM, hot, kinky, and funny, “Batman Cock Cave”.

Alien Attraction by Gianni Holmes
MM Alien Mpreg with a very sweet human dogwalker and an itchy footed alien Prince.

In The Twilight Hours by KC Luck
Two older women find love together. There is sadness in this story, but I found it very hopeful in the way Helen and Mel chose to embrace love and hope in the face of an unpredictable future. Includes cute pets, and campers.

Evan's Awakening by G.R. Lyons
New Adult.

Always and Only You by Claire Marta and Abrianna Denae
Second chance, Trans man mc, MM, amnesia.

Silhouette by Amanda Meuwissen
Hurt comfort, mob boss, exotic dancer. MM, some darkness, HEA.

A Dark Half by Shane K. Morton
Fantasy, MM

Fated by Faith Ryan
Wolf shifter FF, Trans woman MC, fated mates.

The Sweetest Ache by Bretton Sans
I loved this story. Second chance MM love. Childhood best friends raised in the LDS Church. Both have dealt with their sexuality in different ways. Reunited ten years after their first kiss. Travis and Spencer navigate the past, family, lust, and music to find if they can have a future together. This story got me right in the feels, and resonated strongly with me.

Love's Heart Print by JP Sayle
Hurt comfort, MM, two subs finding a new future together, Includes supportive, meddlesome friends, and adorable twin babies.

Catch Me If You Can by Lynn Van Dorn
Enemies to lovers, international mystery and conspiracy. Seriously hot MM.

Take A Chance On Me by Shannon West
College MM, nerd and college golden boy. Super hot.

Taking The Leap by Toby Wise
FF shifter, fated mates, college romance.

This charity anthology is fabulous. It includes a whole range of settings and fans of scifi, fantasy, paranormal or contemporary would definitely find something for their tastes. I loved it, because the stories, both written by authors I already love and introducing me to new ones to follow, gave me a few hours of varied experiences and I met so many interesting characters.

I enjoyed all the stories but some of them touched me more than the others. Like D.G. Carothers's "Desert Knight" which swept me into a space detective adventure at the side of PI Tekken McAllister. The world building was complex and detailed, as was the plotline and I particularly liked the hints of romance and the open ending, with hopes for more in the future.

Gianni Holmes's "Alien Attraction" made me  swoon at a cosmic love story between an alien prince and the human he fell for... and their baby. "Silhouette" by Amanda Meuwissen showed me that even the most hardened mobster has a soft side and, in Lynn van Dorn's "Catch Me if You Can", two enemy spies put my ereader in fire with their intense chemistry.

But, really, each and every one of the stories included in this anthology is special and has something unique to give to the reader. Men and women who took a chance on themselves and on others, and in doing so gifting their emotions, offering smiles, fears, adventure, affection and ultimately joy and love. Absolutely recommended.

Take a chance on this anthology!

What’s better than one story for an excellent cause? 16 stories by an amazing set of authors that all feature a fantastic mix of people taking a chance for love, for friendship, for courage and more. From sci-fi detective noir to a mysterious dancer and mob boss, you’ll fall in love again and again. So don’t hesitate and grab this limited release anthology while you can!

Desert Knight by D.G. Carothers

This novella is a clever mix of science fiction and detective noir. I liked it a lot and thought it was a fun read. It’s full of mysterious and diverse characters like Summer and Tekken who we learn just enough about to make us curious for more and it hints at hidden danger and villains. Based on the ending and the questions I have—I need answers, I hope we don’t have to wait too long to see more of this unique world.

Silhouette by Amanda Meuwissen

Gael is a mob boss unlike any other and Silhouette, who I want to hug everyday, whirled his way into my heart. I wasn’t sure what to expect but what I discovered was a treasure rich in beauty, tenderness, heart and passion. I wish it were longer as I want to know more about these amazing men who left me breathless.

This anthology includes a wonderful variety of stories that span a diverse array of genres and moods, from the fun, quirky and contemporary, like KL Hiers' “Playing for Keeps” to the poignant, slightly dark and deeply moving, like Amanda Meuwissen’s “Silhouette.” Also included: spies who maybe love, maybe hate each other (Lynn Van Dorn’s “Catch Me if You Can”), a PI who finds danger and romance in the fringes of galactic space (D.G. Carothers’ “Desert Knight”) and many others. I liked the range of tones and heat levels; each story definitely had its own unique appeal, and I appreciated never quite knowing what to expect next.

I love anthologies and this one was no different. Anthologies are so good because there is literally something for everyone. Whether you like some kink in your books, some delightful romance or even something paranormal, you’ll find it here. It’s always exciting to read authors you know and love and this is also a great chance to discover new and talented authors as well.

You can’t go wrong with so much variety in one place. I particularly enjoyed the offerings from KL Hiers, Toby Wise, CW Gray, Amanda Meuwissen and Gianni Holmes. Overall, just a delightful anthology and I highly recommend it.

I love the idea of this anthology and the charity it benefits. So many good stories here.

Special mentions to:

KL Hiers - Playing for Keeps - This was such a fun, feel good story. I also laughed so much.

Gianni Holmes - Alien Attraction - For such a short story, the world building was on point. The characters are great - even if one is a bit stubborn

Amanda Meuwissen - Silhouette - It's everything about the words and how they create the *feeling* of the environment. It's impossible not to feel immersed. I am always impressed with their stories. Gael and Nicky were perfect.

Diverse

This was a truly excellent anthology. I think the thing that stands out the most is how diverse the stories are. Even though they all follow the anthology theme of taking a chance, the settings really cover a huge range of story types.

It’s ok

It’s a anthology where authors write outside their normal genre. I mean, if they were good at the genera they chose they’d write in this instead of what they’re famous for. I only can for two authors and their stories lacked the spark they give to their normal genres, but they weren’t bad just ok. It’s cool that authors do this sort of thing for a good cause, but I hope in the next one they stick to the stories they’re excellent at instead of just ok at.

3.25 rounded up

I have read one story in this anthology. It was good enough for me to not care whether the others are even comprehensible. I loved Lynn Van Dorn’s ‘Catch Me If You Can.’ I had forgotten how good her writing can be.

It’s rare to read a short story that makes you feel as though you know the characters well enough to believe you could predict their responses to different situations but know you can’t quite trust them because they keep secrets from even those who consider them dear friends. Love, betrayal, frustration, longing, witty conversations, kinky sex, tender passion, longing. It’s all here in this wonderful small package. If any if the other stories are any good— great! If not, I don’t care.

I have received an ARC copy of Faith's story fated and I am leaving my review voluntarily. I would say this story was very different compared to Faith's other books. I enjoyed this female to female shifter story. I can say that don't expect anything dark; this was a clean, nice romance story.

First of I got the physical copy which is split in two. I got volume 2 because it has the story by Toby Wise that a needed to get.

So far I only read two of the 8 stories but since I want to rate them individually I am going to edit this as soon as I read another story. Therefore the rating might change over time, because I will do a combined rating for the whole book.

Taking The Leap by Toby Wise

4 stars

Ray has a huge crush on her collage roommate Leah. When Ray finally confesses, Leah has a confession to make of her own.

This story was my main reason to buy the book. I am a big fan of Toby Wise and enjoy his stories a lot.
This was a little different because it’s a sapphic romance and he usually writes mm romance.

However I really enjoyed this story. Especially for being so short he once again did an awesome job. Leah and Ray were really cute with each other and everything was just super happy and sweet. I am curious if he plans one doing more with the side characters. I would love to see more.

[Update 26.7.2022]

Silhouette by Amanda Meuwissen

3 stars

Overall I like the idea of this book. We have a mafia boss, called Gael, that takes over a new area including a burlesque place. At this place works a young man that was special to the former owner (a man Gael is after). Nicky is an incredibly good performer but isn’t allowed to be touched by anyone, not even his colleagues. Gael is directly captivated by the young man and wants to help him.

I love that Gael never touched him until Nicky initiates it. While the whole privat performance still felt a little weird, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I also liked the pacing of the story. The only scene I found to be a little long was the dance in the beginning. That could have been a little shorter.

I think if we would have gotten more out of this story this could easily get a 4 or maybe even 5 stars.

So far, I’ve only had a chance to read a few of the stories in this anthology but I’ve really enjoyed them. They actually ended up being longer than what I expected in an anthology with so many different authors.

Taking the Leap by Toby Wise:
I decided to start with this story (the last one in the anthology) because FF stories are not something I would normally read. Since Taking a Chance is the theme of this anthology thought it fitting for me to begin with it. I really enjoyed reading this. It’s pretty tame on the hotness scale but it has a nice paranormal bit going on with a few surprises. I’m glad I chose this one to read.

Take a Chance on Me by Shannon West:
This is a really hot, college aged, New Adult, MM romance. Fake boyfriend trope, hot nerdy guy who doesn’t think he’s cute and a hot guy who rides a motorcycle. I really liked it a lot.

Always and Only You by Clair Marta and Abrianna Denae
This is a transgender story like I’ve not read before. I really enjoyed it.

There are so many great authors in this anthology, several I’m familiar with and others who are new to me. I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of this great anthology.

I love anthologies because it is a great way to get to read stories by authors I didn’t know and in this case, you even do some good by buying it.

Compared to other anthologies I liked the diversity of tropes, from sci-fi to an unconventional relationship in a BDSM world, and the vast array of MCs, who were not all young and fit, but included different body types and age segments. Also, the heat levels varied a lot as well as the word count of each story, so depending on your mood, the free time you have, and your personal inclination, you surely will find more than one story to like and love in this collection.

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review.
A great bundle that flows together with all these amazing and creativity characters. Each story is set in different ways that the lead MC characters each have some way to over come a difficult emotional struggle. There is so many slow-burns in here, but each is a short sweet if some times sad to funny read. This can reach many different readers in more ways then one as we each in our own way can relate to them from self image to just over coming rejection.

I absolutely loved this anthology bundle!

16 amazing stories, each one unique and beautiful in their own way.

Few of my favorites from this anthology are:
Alien Attraction by Gianni Holmes, a sweet opposites attract with a unique world building.

Playing for Keeps by K.L. Hiers which was an adorable, light hearted, wholesome read.

I love that the author's have put together this fabulous collection of stories to support a charity which is very close to my heart.

Definitely recommend this collection!!❤️ ❤️

I have been (impatiently) waiting for this and was super excited to get to read it early. So often, when you build a book up (especially with anthologies where each story is going to hit a different note) it's never quite as amazing as the ridiculous expectations you had. That did not happen here - this was AMAZING!!! This is an awesome collection of stories from a variety of authors (some of whom are in my long-standing auto-buy group, and some of whom will be moving there now). To be fair, I didn't love all the stories equally and did have my favourites; but, unusually for an anthology (especially one which didn't stick to MM which is my preference) there weren't any stories I didn't like or felt brought the book as a whole down. I've currently got star ratings for all but I'm still working on getting short reviews for all of them. In all honesty though, I would really recommend reading all of them.

The whole theme of the anthology is taking a chance so even if some of the stories aren't your usual genre etc, take a chance and try something new/different - I think you will be really glad you did (I know that I was). Plus, at the end you'll have a bunch of great new stories you've read and helped out an incredibly worthy cause - win, win!

Desert Knight (DG Carother) - 5*
(MM) Sweet Tennek who thinks he has to give up on being with people because of how he views himself met his match in the quiet, calm, steadiness that is Summer. The world-building here was amazing. So many different races (from reptile to cat based) with so much room for lots and lots of stories. I absolutely loved how Summer was respectful of Tennek’s need to take things slowly but also made sure he made clear just how invested he was. I can’t wait for more from this world.

Leaping into Hope (Toshi Drake) - 4*
(MZ) I love how many alien stories are in this anthology (yay for aliens). This had a lovely hurt/comfort theme to it that allowed a certain sweetness to permeate the whole story. I loved Zoagashta, sigh, I really wish I could know them in real life. They were so kind and gentle and the relationship that developed between them and Jax was just perfect. Can I just say how amazed I am at the level of world-building in all these stories?!

When Clyde Met Hay (CW Gray) - 5*
(MM) Another lovely fated mates story. CW Gray is really good at balancing hurt/comfort with sweetness in their stories. You feel the emotions of the characters without ever having it drag down the sweet fluffiness.

Playing for Keeps (KL Hiers) - 5*
(MM) I really liked the characters in this, both MCs and secondary. This had the feel of a much longer story in the way the characters were developed. What was best was that I was left smiling after reading it. Mateo and Jordan were lovely together (I also honestly really wish I was as organised as Mateo).

Alien Attraction (Gianni Holmes) - 5*
(MM) I really liked this one (I mean, aliens are pretty awesome so…). This was Gianni Holmes first alien story and thought it was written really, really well. The world building was great and the characters were the perfect combination of sweet and funny. I loved the idea of having to break to your chosen that you managed to get them pregnant.

In the Twilight Hours (KC Luck) - 4*
Evan's Awakening (GR Lyons) - 4.5*
Always and Only You (Claire Marta and Abrianna Denae) - 4*
Silhouette (Amanda Meuwissen) - 4*
A Dark Half (Shane K Morton) - 5*

Fated (Faith Ryon) - 4.5*
(FF) I love how diverse this anthology is. This is another shifter story with fated mates (if only that happened in real life!). My heart broke for Abby and all the things she’d gone through but I was so glad that she was able to finally realise that Holland cared about who she was not what parts she was born with. I just wanted to give Abby a great big hug!

The Sweetest Ache (Bretton Sans) - 5*
(MM) This one hit me right hard emotionally – it was the perfect mixture of bitter sweet and hopeful. You don’t get many stories based on characters raised/part of the LDS Church but the few I’ve read have been amazing and this is the same. I’m not usually a fan of second chance tropes, but this was just perfect.

Love's Heart Print (JP Sayle) - 5*
(MM) Another sweet hurt/comfort. This one had really great secondary characters – even if they were pretty interfering! You could really feel the love and care. I really liked that this allowed the characters to change and develop who they were and what they wanted and didn’t force them to stay in their designated ‘boxes’.

Catch Me if You Can (Lynn Van Dorn) - 4.5*
Take a Chance on Me (Shannon West) - 4.5*

Taking the Leap (Toby Wise) - 5*
(FF) I pretty much only read MM, so this was different in that it’s FF. I really enjoyed it – Leah and Ray were lovely together. It’s fun and sweet (pretty much what you expect with Toby Wise) and has added bonus of having shifters (a favourite of mine!).

Taking a Chance is a wonderful collection of 16 stories from multiple authors within various tropes and genres, all with queer characters. And the best part is that all the proceeds go to the Aids Healthcare Foundation - AHF.

Great stories (all 4/5 stars reads), great authors, and a great chance to help an important organization. For a limited time only!
