Chaos #4.5

Rough Ride

Rate this book
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley comes a new story in her Chaos series...

Rosalie Holloway put it all on the line for the Chaos Motorcycle Club.

Informing to Chaos on their rival club—her man’s club, Bounty—Rosalie knows the stakes. And she pays them when her man, who she was hoping to scare straight, finds out she’s betrayed him and he delivers her to his brothers to mete out their form of justice.

But really, Rosie has long been denying that, as she drifted away from her Bounty, she’s been falling in love with Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh, a Chaos brother. Snap is the biker-boy-next door with the snowy blue eyes, quiet confidence and sweet disposition who was supposed to keep her safe... and fell down on that job.

For Snapper, it’s always been Rosalie, from the first time he saw her at the Chaos Compound. He’s just been waiting for a clear shot. But he didn’t want to get it after his Rosie was left bleeding, beat down and broken by Bounty on a cement warehouse floor.

With Rosalie a casualty of an ongoing war, Snapper has to guide her to trust him, take a shot with him, build a them...

And fold his woman firmly in the family that is Chaos.

Note: Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Sorry, I just can’t.

Snapper is Rosalie’s third Shy biker and she was betraying number two to boot - right or wrong, betrayal is betrayal and it just didn’t sit well with me. I just can’t get behind it.

KA comes up will a decent excuse reason why Rosalie feels the need flit from man to man...I’ll give you a hint, ahem, backwards “daddy issues,” and while I can...almost, sort of, not really, appreciate that, it just doesn’t doesn’t quite clean up enough of the “Snapper is Shy #3” vibes to make me feel like these two have anything special.

Sorry, but Rosalie is just reading like a freeloading damsel who can’t breathe without a man, preferably a biker, in her life who “reminds her of daddy.”

Please Note: I am going to put a stop to the morality police comments right now. Don't come on my review and give me a lecture when it is VERY clear I was joking about a FICTIONAL character. No woman was actually beaten, it is FICTION. My comments pertained to a FICTIONAL character. Save your outrage for the REAL women and children that are abused daily. Better yet, instead of going around and posting outrage on other peoples reviews volunteer that time at a women's shelter. No one with a lick of SENSE or who KNOWS me believes I was saying it is A-OK for a woman to be beaten up on in REAL LIFE. Geez Louise people watch out for nosebleeds on those high horses you sit on.

So I went into this one riding a wave of hopefulness after reading THE HOOKUP by this author, and it didn't suck. I originally wasn't planning on reading it because let us be honest here Rosalie should have remained as a side character. She didn't need her own book (even a novella), and she most certainly didn't need to end up with a CHAOS brother. I mean who wants to sit across from their ex at every meeting and get together CHAOS has until the end of their natural born life??!! Certainly not me! I highly doubt ANYONE would.

description

I didn't hate it. It was just OK. I didn't particularly like Rosalie (surprise) she wasn't the brightest of bulbs and a bit of a backstabbing cheating whore. I guess I was supposed to feel for her as she was trying to get her man to not turn to the "dark side" but the entire time she was basically emotionally cheating with Snapper. She also kind of deserved a beatdown for ratting out her "mans" club. <-- just kidding. Kind of... (lol). I mean COME ON, she actually thought she was going to change the minds of an entire club? Anyone with half a brain would have just broken up with the guy and moved on. Moving on...I was thankful at least that Tab and Shy aren't mentioned or seen much. That said, the whole Tab scene at the beginning and the bestie friends with Tab and Shy at the end was stupid, and unrealistic, and unnecessary (IMO).

It was also a pretty short book. Especially for KA because even her novellas tend to be longish. The romance was pretty quick and not overly developed. It was also really light in the sex department. Honestly, this felt more like a setup book for the next CHAOS full length one (Hound's I think) with a half-ass romance thrown in. Other than Hap and Lanie's book the entire CHAOS series hasn't been great for me. But like I said, I didn't hate this one. So we'll chalk that up to a win (lol).

description

SIDE NOTE: I wish this author would put a little effort into learning some medical facts. Rosalie had NINE broken ribs, but she was walking around like she was taking a stroll through the fucking tulips two days later??. I'm not even a f-cking DR, and I KNOW that she wouldn't even be able to BREATH without extreme pain with NINE broken ribs, let alone walk around...sigh.

”Life, Rosie,” he said gently, ”is not about goin’ it alone. It’s about finding the right people to share it with who will make it better when it’s good and be there to hold you steady when it’s not.”

I’ve yet to have the pleasure to read the ”CHAOS” series from the beginning and after having read Snapper and Rosalie’s story, I know I’ve been missing out. MOTORCYCLE MAN was my favorite book in the ”Dream Man” series, so to get to spend a little more time with Tack was really a pleasure.

The story opens with Rosalie being badly beaten by her ex-boyfriend and his crew from the Bounty MC. They found out that she was working as an informant for Chaos and sought out to punish her for her betrayal. But Rosalie had her reasons. She knew that the Bounty crew was getting mixed up with many illegal and dangerous activities and Rosalie had hoped to get her boyfriend away from that scene. What she ended up with was a broken body and a fear of getting involved with another man who would turn out to be a bad decision. Ever since her father died, Rosalie has been looking to find a man who could fill the gaping hole in her heart that he left behind. So far she’s gone from one dead end relationship to the next.

Snapper and the Chaos MC found Rosalie outside the warehouse where she was badly beaten. They all feel a sense of guilt because they view her as one of theirs and no harm should have come to the woman who was under their protection. So they set out to seek vengeance for Rosalie. Snapper is leading the mission since over the months of working closely with her, he ended up falling hard for her.

Rosalie decides that she’s going to live her life on her own terms without any help from a man, but Snapper isn’t about to let her go through with her new life plan. Neither is the Chaos MC. They all set her up with a new place to live and overwhelm her with their unconditional love and support. When Snapper makes his intentions known to Rosalie, she isn’t receptive at first. Her heart had already been broken twice and she’s positive she won’t be able to survive it a third time. But Snapper already sees Rosalie as his and he’s determined to convince her that they are the real deal.

Will Rosalie be able to let down her guard and accept the love of a really good man? Will the Chaos MC be able to keep her safe from those who seek revenge against her?

“Men are breakable. They just hide the cracks better than we do.”

When Rosalie gets beaten by her boyfriend and his motorcycle club for being an informant to Chaos, she wants nothing to do with that life ever again. But Snapper, the Chaos man who was partnered to her, isn’t ready to let her go, especially now that her boyfriend is out of the picture. Snapper has always wanted Rosalie, and now is his chance to prove it to her.

“If you care about someone, it’s not about going that extra mile. It’s about giving everything.”

I kind of laughed to myself when I received this arc, because when I think of a novella, I think 100 pages or less. Well, for Kristen Ashley, just under 300 pages IS shorter than her usual novel, but I loved every second of this book.

While I love the Chaos series by Ashley, I have to admit that I didn’t remember who Rosalie or Snapper were….. or even some of the other characters that I may have looked up while reading this novel. But despite not remembering them, I fell in love with this couple. My heart broke for Rosalie and I wanted her to get her happy ending. And Snapper got the chance to go after the girl he always wanted.

This is the kind of motorcycle club books I love, there will never be another series out there like this one.

“I found the one who was perfect for me.”

**I will note, this novella cannot be read as a standalone, it really only makes sense if you’ve read the other books in this series**

Rough Ride brings back a character we met early on in the series, Rosalie Holloway. In this novella she's ready to be done with the MC world, but they aren't ready to be done with her.

Snapper and Rosie had a pretty fast paced relationship but it still had the perfect mix of drama and heat. There was also a little action crammed into the story that added a lot of intrigue. As usual KA delivered a story that had a lot going on but never got to be too much to where it became jumbled.

I liked getting to learn more about this couple and I thought they were really good together. The chemistry was evident between them and I thought they just made a very cute couple.

The ending leaves the story open for more of the MC to get stories and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

ROUGH RIDE

by Kristen Ashley

Who else felt wretched for Rosalie when Shy and Tabby ran into her at the mall in OWN THE WIND? When you experienced her pain for having lost her boyfriend to the daughter of Chaos' president. I was so hoping to get a story for Rosalie, simply because she was completely classy about it although you could feel how hard this was on her. Being dropped like a hot potato? Looking back, it was a shitty thing to do, Shy.

Unfortunately, suffering isn't quite over yet for Rosie. She has been spying on her boyfriend's motorcycle club for Chaos. She doesn't do it because she wants to see Bounty go down, no, her motives are much more personal. She wants to save her boyfriend from the illegal transactions going on within the MC but the more she realizes that notion is futile the more she falls in love with Snapper, her handler at Chaos. These are pretty much the impressions we got over the last Chaos books.

The book starts with a harrowing scene for Rosalie that ends with her in hospital with broken ribs, a fractured nose, countless bruises and a broken heart. And she's done. Done with her ex. Done with Bounty. And done with Chaos. She can't do it anymore. Too many people have let her down. And who can blame her after her recent ordeal? But all those people aren't done with her - especially Snapper, who has been in love with Rosalie for a long time. Plus, she still needs protection and Snapper is only all too happy to give it to her.
“Got you now, baby. I got you. Nothing will ever hurt you again. Nothing, Rosie. Won’t let it. Nothing, baby. Not a thing.”

You might have gotten the impression in the previous books that Rosalie lets people walk all over her. And that would be all wrong. She is the usual awesome, strong, lovable, sassy KA-heroine we love so much. I always root for Kristen Ashley's couples but I really wanted to see Rosalie's HEA after all she'd gone through.

Under Snapper's usual alpha exterior hid a gentle and sweet man who had all the time in the world wooing his Rosie. He left her time but pushed her enough to see so that she could see that they both wanted the same. Once they were at the same page it was pure bliss.

He hadn’t lied. I was his world. It was just a quiet, unhurried world where a roof over our heads and closeness (and a cozy fire) were all that was needed.

Of course we catch up a little with the rest of the Chaos members, especially because, being the men they are, they all are affected by Rosalie's rough time, they all feel guilty for not protecting her sufficiently.

This is a satisfying and lovely addition to the series. Again, KA gives us her usual brand of sweet romance and tension that I adore so much. I believe there are two more books left and I can't wait to read them. Heads up: I wouldn't recommend reading this as a standalone - there is too much background story in the previous books. But just as well, right? Because this series is awesome.
“You been my woman for months and I don’t give a shit that happened when you were with another man.”

Well! That sure was a disappointment after the gripping intro where Rosie is being worked over by Bounty, so sue me for having high hopes that Rough Ride would continue in this vein because it so didn't. Instead I got a stretched out novella that was full of nothing but bloody filler, filler in a NOVELLA ... seriously? This included the necessary decor descriptions, clothing descriptions, food descriptions, a cameo with Tex and Indy (which in no way saved this one I might add), and THE MOST ridiculous, nonsensical, run-on sentences and paragraphs that even reading a couple of times made no sense at all. All this rambling and little in the way of an actual plot and story does not a good book make. Ever!

I liked both Snapper and Rosalie and was glad she got her happy after being shafted by Shy the Sh!t. Snap and Rosie make the cutest couple but somewhere along the way I must've missed the memo because kitty loving cuties and bikers clubs do. not. work. And don't even get me started on Tabby wanting to go all badass Ninja Biker Chick on a biker club with .... wait for it .... Shy's brass knuckles. Seriously. For reals! Off. the. scales. TSTL.

I also need to mention the bizarre ending that wasn't. Eh? What the hell was that? It was a doozy of a cliffhanger, that's what it was. Not impressed!

I'm going to be super generous with my 2 unimpressed stars. I'm in a good mood!

Rough Ride is a Chaos novella featuring Snapper and Rosalie. Rosalie is no stranger to Chaos. Rosie is Shy's ex-girlfriend and an informant for a rival club. When her deception is discovered, Rosie finds herself in grave danger. As Snapper and the Chaos brothers (and sisters) swoop in to help her recover, Rosie discovers that she was always meant to be part of the Chaos Family.

Overall, this novella was full of all of the Chaos shenanigans I have grown to love. Full of MC action, passion, and romance, Rough Ride offers a quick taste of Chaos love. Snapper and Rosie share a fast-paced romance full of passion and tender romance. I found this novella to be entertaining but certainly wish they could have had a full-length story in order to truly experience the growth and development of their romance. Even so, when KA is writing, I am always ready and willing to read!

Here's the deal...at this point, it's 100% my fault that I continue to reach new heights of excitement every time I get the word a new KA book is set to release, and then am subsequently disappointed the story doesn't love up to my expectations.

I'm totally setting the bar too high.

My love of old school Kristen Ashley clearly isn't translating to the modern day stuff, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

I love me some Chaos but this story needed to be a full length offering to get me to buy in. I went into this knowing exactly who Rosalie was and not minding one way or another that she was getting her own KA badass biker, but I still needed more time to connect with both her and Snapper's story.

And I'm thinking the Snap/Rosie/Shy/Tabby stuff would've been a wee bit more complicated IRL. GAH!

As a not so subtle aside, Rosie's overwhelming awe at having the supercool Chaos men and their ladyfolk at her house aggravated the hell out of me. I'm no longer down with the KA name drop game. Unless it's Luke Stark, in which case I'm down for whatever comes my way.

I don’t care what way I gotta take you, as mine or just havin’ you in my life in a way you’d let me be there, but however that is, I’m not givin’ up. Not ever, Rosalie.

It's been a while since I reached for a KA fix. Truth be told, the last two releases were a very sad DNF for me that left me questioning if I'd finally reached a point where I had to admit defeat with one of my previously favorite authors. But I love The Chaos series, and I simply couldn't help but one-click this book to see if I'll finally get a bit of those KA feels back. It's just been too long since I felt them!

Did I 5 star love this book? No. It was simply too short for me to truly get fully invested in. It did, however, bring back some of those KA feels for me. Now some may have an issue with Rosalie being a little bit of a...uhem...men hopper. But for me, I totally bought into the why of it. Dare I say, I understood it even. Basically, it didn't bother me in the least. Nor was I bothered by the practically instant relationship development that happened between her and Snapper. It's a novella, so I didn't expect much on this end to be quite honest. I actually enjoyed the quicker pace of the story.

With KA's previous two releases, I struggled with the slower pace, the stunted story where everything happens by 50% and then I'm reading a bunch of nothing for the last half. This book kept me invested from beginning to finish, without the typical wordiness or over descriptive prose.

Rosalie definitely has a lot of history with the men of Chaos, but that didn't bother me either. I didn't feel that she was still pining after Shy and I was totally sold on the connection between her and Snapper. Rough Ride definitely gave me the fix I was looking for and it was an enjoyable one. The one thing that kept this from being a full 4 stars for me was that ending. What in the ever loving hell was that? A lead in for the next book? A story hook? A glimpse of what's to come? It took a perfectly satisfying HEA and turned it on its ass and left me confused, slightly annoyed, and anxious.

But mostly confused.

Seriously. What even was that? I still have no idea what happened. And no, it wasn't a cliffhanger. I genuinely don't even know what it was.

Either way, this was still a fun read and gave me my KA fix that I was looking for, so money well spent for this girl.

I am so sad to say that this one was a bit of a disappointment to me. I don't know if I should give it 2 or 3 stars, so I am going with 2,5 :(

Now I have never been a Rosalie fan (I am a Tabby and Shy fan all the way), but I figured I would give it a go.

I just didn't connect to the either one of MC's. I just didn't care enough about them.

I also really didn't like the scene were Tabby went bat shit crazy, with Shy's brass knuckles, to get her revenge for Rosalie and womankind. She sounded ridiculous, and I bet she looked it as well. I also think it was bad taste....trying to avenge your husband's ex girlfriend.... That my friends... is just NOT done. So with me being such a big Tabby fan...it annoyed the hell out of me !!

I still have high hopes for Hound's book which is coming out next, but to be honest... I really want to read about Rush !! When will it be his time ????

I shed a tear or two...or three...or more...

My rating doesn't really match my review, just know that while I enjoyed Rough Ride, I couldn't help but share what I felt straight after.

Geez, I'm sad. I just finished Rough Ride this morning and while I enjoyed the ride, I feel like the high has been overshadowed by grief. There's a scene where Rosie goes to Zip's Gun Emporium. Now, as an Aussie with gun laws, my immediate thought would not be to buy a gun when in danger (not that I imagine I would ever be in that kind of danger). I hated that Rosie felt the need to protect herself. Don't get me wrong, what happened to Rosie was horrific and definitely needed to see justice served, but as the pictures shown to her , living with the consequences of using a gun, could have been worse.

I finished the story, turned on my computer and was ambushed by my news feed. There had been another high school shooting, in Florida. It made me incredibly sad.

What would have been a review talking about all my love for Kristen Ashley and her remarkable storytelling, has been tarnished. I cried more than one tear for Rosie and my heart broke for the Chaos family, as one of their own was dealt a hard hand. This story, while tragic, showed the strength and perseverance of a woman who got knocked down, but she got up again. And, nothing's going to keep her down.

Not trying to cause a huge debate, these are just my feelings as an Aussie waking up to a sad news day. My thoughts and prayers for the families affected.

3.5 Intriguing Chaos Stars!!

In this fast-paced Novella, we get Snapper and Rosalie’s story. You’ll remember Rosalie from early on as Shy’s ex-girlfriend (who he broke-up with to be with Tabby). Rosalie has since become an informant for Chaos, thinking she can get her current Bounty MC boyfriend away from Benito Venezuela’s nefarious activities. Now, after a brutal trauma she's ready to be done with the MC world, however, the MC world isn’t ready to let her go…..particularly Snapper.

Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh and Rosalie Holloway had a pretty fast paced relationship but it still had the perfect mix of action, drama, and heat. I really enjoyed getting to know this couple, they’re good together, the chemistry between them was very evident, they made a great couple. I found Snapper to be very different than the rest of his Chaos brothers. He’s very…..deep (you’ll understand what I mean when you read it).

The ending……OMG....intrigue that will leave you wondering what in the hell is going on?! I can't wait to see what's going to happen next, which I’m thinking we’ll get in Hounds book Wild Like the Wind (July 31st, 2018).

I am very torn about writing my review for Rough Ride. I enjoyed reading the long awaited and much deserved story of Snap and Rosalie, until I didn't.

Snap is not your typical KA uber alpha hero, he’s a low key alpha. He’s known he’s wanted Rosalie for awhile but waited until the right time to scoop her up. He’s extremely lovable and sexy. Rosalie, your heart has to break for her, she’s been through so much and all she wants is a man she can give her heart to and all the love and affection she has in her body, but she keeps getting jerked around. She’s been jerked around so much that she’s hesitant to let Snap in. The road is rough and it ends in a great spot….THEN BOOM! something happens that I am not at all happy with and it took my rating from a possible 4 down to a 2, the only thing that kept my rating at a 3 are the scenes that had Indy, Tex and Zip in them. I'm so disappointed that a story I was enjoying went to being a story I detested within the last few pages of the book.

I never thought I would feel this way about a KA book but this one just didn’t work for me.

The Good

The start of this story was pretty compelling and had it kept up that tension, it would have easily been a 4-5 star.

Rosalie and Snapper do have chemistry and their Firsts worked well. Snapper, on his own, has some great lines and really protective yet not complete a-hole vibe that I appreciated. Rosalie made some questionable choices at first, but I kind of liked that she had an imperfect, messy past. I hate when the heroine has to be a Virgin Mary, while the hero has no such restrictions. It's not a black and white situation, and her beginning with Snapper (some of it happens in the last Chaos book) is a bit sketch, but in a world of bikers, I expect a bit of imperfect and screwed up.

For a KA book, it's a pretty quick read, and I tore through it in a day, so there's that.

Also, the ending is pretty damn vague but does tease a a turn towards to the grittier (maybe) in future Chaos books.

The Bad

Sigh. If you look at the books I've read, I think there can be no doubt that I've been a fan of KA for a long time. I don't think everything she puts out is gold, but I certainly give her the benefit of the doubt more often than any author I've read to date. So, I feel confident in saying I'm very fluent in KA-speak, and there were times when even I had no idea if these characters were still speaking English.

description

Ms. Ashley has become known for a specific cadence to her writing, but I had to go back and read certain passages more than once just so I can figure out what the ever lovin' hell they were talking about. The KA double-speak is in full effect, and while there are some good lines in there, I still need the majority of the paragraphs to make sense.

description

There is also no way that a person who hasn't read the Chaos series could follow everything that's going on in this book. I've read the Chaos series and I was still struggling to remember what the hell happened. Oh, and it doesn't hurt if you're a longstanding KA fan because then you'll understand the love of decorating and the mandatory HGTV description overdrive.

Everything In Between
With the strong beginning, the last 20% of the story went the way many of KA's latest books have gone - into a supersized epilogue. That may be your thing, and if it is, you'll enjoy this. For me, it was alright, but that's about it. Speaking of, there are glimpses of some beloved characters from her Rock Chick series, which did put a smile on my face, so there is that.

description

While I liked Rosalie and Snapper, I will say this is a very conditional recommendation - only hardcore KA fans need apply. It starts off well, even if it peters out at the end, but you must be well-versed in KA's particular dialect, because if not you'll be hella-confused. Also, the Chaos series is required reading to get a bead on what's going on.

I wasn't over the moon about this, but I didn't hate it either, but considering I am invested in the Chaos series, I didn't mind reading this.

I'm back at the compound to spend some much needed time with my favorite MC boys and biker babes ~ the Chaos crew. It's been a while since visiting Ride, and I sorely missed these brothers of the cut and their sexy badass Alpha ways. Fascinated with these characters since reading Motorcycle Man , each steamy novel within this spin-off series was gritty, intense, and passion-filled. The story told in Rough Ride was no different. Once again Kristen Ashley fed my never-ending addiction for her romances with another emotional tale, this time featuring two minor characters we've met before and whose stories I've longed for ~ Snapper and Rosalie.

Rosalie "Rosie" Holloway had a complicated history with Chaos. Before putting herself on the line as their informant, providing information on (her now ex) Throttle's MC, Rosie first appeared in Own the Wind , as Shy Cage's ex-girlfriend. Even though their time together was short, and Shy abruptly dumping Rosalie led to his beautiful life with Tabby, a part of me felt genuinely sorry for how she was left shattered. I never resented or faulted Rosie for being involved with Shy, as she was a victim of circumstances; I just wanted to know this woman's story and see her find happiness. My wishes for Rosie finally came true in this novella, as Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh proved to be worthy of her heart by the tenderly mending all of her wounds. The cherry on top ~ there was no friction between any of these characters due to their past connections, and I was relieved. For me, this story was about discovering the real Rosalie, experiencing her pain, the long road to healing, and seeing her relationship with Snapper blossom to true love. I relished every moment of their slow-burning, heartfelt journey.

A sweet and soft-spoken woman who had the unfortunate knack of hitching her wagon on the wrong star, Rosalie's story tugged at my heartstrings. She was a lost soul ~ mourning the loss of her dad while searching for the 'forever love' her parents shared, led her to find only heartache and brutality. The abuse she endured, mentally and physically, gutted me. Her luck changed for the better when without choice she became a part of Chaos. That's one of the things I adore most about these bikers; how they all value the bonds of brotherhood by protecting and caring for their extended family. Tack and his crew embraced Rosalie, kept her safe within their arms, in the most touching way. But it was Snapper's fierce love, patience, and persistence that finally put an end to Rosie's rough ride.

Loving her from afar for so long, he gently made his way into her heart and life when finally getting the chance. And while earning her trust and affections, Snapper managed to become a perfect hero I truly adored.

I loved all things Snapper. He was an incredibly sexy biker badass ~ possessive, controlling and edgy ~ but in a remarkably calm and subdued way. The depths of his love and patience when dealing with Rosie, guarding her heart and giving her the time she needed, was moving. However, don't let his easy-going demeanor fool you. As mellow as his character was, in times of trouble, Snapper unleashed a fury like no other. Proving he would do anything and everything to protect Rosie and the club family.

A shorter, fast-paced read jam-packed with so much KA goodness, this novella delivered and satisfied my Chaos craving. Although considered a standalone, I do recommend reading all the books in this series, to appreciate Snapper and Rosalie's passionate romance and to understand their history. I was thrilled to see all of my favorites MC characters, as well as revisiting some old Rock Chick friends hanging out in Fortnums and Zip's Gun Emporium. And the epilogue...holy moly, was it EXPLOSIVE! Angst-filled and leaving me gripping my kindle with my head spinning, I was conjuring up all sorts of plot theories and scenarios. The stage is set here for future books, and I cannot wait until the next installment ~ Wild Like the Wind .

I'm not sure I even know how to rate this. The book starts in the middle of a story. We miss the first half. Then told bits of backstory as we go. And those bits are told in drunk rambling " new" KA style. Old school KA books are a thing of the past I'm afraid. KA then throws in a walking cameo performance from past characters and throws in the equivalent of the kitchen sink with Tex. The couple in this book gets little screen time and I feel like I didn't read anything. This says it has 273 pages but I read it in a little over an hour. She charged 2.99$ for this half story and I just feel like she threw something out there to rake in some 💰 from her fans.

Hold on to the back of your man’s cut and get ready for one hell of a ride!

KA is back with the boys from Chaos. They’re doing what they do best: keeping it real, keeping it honest, and keeping it together as a family the only way true bikers do. I jumped in and speed read the yummy goodness that is Rough Ride. This is a short, one-sitting kind of read, so I am gonna do you the favor of not saying too much other than that you need to buy it, read it, love it.

True fans of the series will revel in being immersed once again with the Chaos brothers. It’s amazing having moments with the lovely ladies they call their wives and seeing the over the top, leather-clad protectiveness that makes all hearts swoon.

I can’t wait ‘til the next release. (Psssst… there’s a little sneak peek at the end :D)

5 Star Reading, Rock Chicks!

As K.A. series' go, Chaos is my favorite. (If I've said that before about other KA series, I mean it this time!)

'Rough Ride' is the novella of Rosalie and Snapper and their story paralleled the events in the Chaos series. I'm afraid to say too much about the plot for fear of spoiling this and previous books. These characters were clearly in love and were filled with passion. Their ride was rough, how they came to be a couple wasn't easy. But once they were freed from the anguish, and the past, their union was beautiful!

I love Ashley's bikers. They are bad ass. They are loyal. They are protective. They are sexy. Their women are bad ass. They are independent. They are loving. They are sexy. And when you put those qualities together you get a sizzling romance!

If you haven't read the books in this series, I think it would be best to read them first. Because even though I have, it was a while ago and I was lost sometimes with events mentioned in this novella. Which means a re-read of this series is in order!

The ending of this book let me with my jaw open. It wasn't necessarily a cliff-hanger as much as tonic without the gin. And a girl needs her gin! I need the rest of my drink, now!

**I was provided a review copy by the author. This did not influence my opinion of the book nor my review.**

Surprisingly dark along with the sexy and sweet! This series is one of my favorites.

“You know,” she carried on, “in a perfect world, there are rules and everyone abides by them. There is good and there is bad and everyone understands which is which. There is dark and there is light and each person understands which they carry inside them. But this isn’t a perfect world, Rosalie, and it never will be. In every case, in every instance, in every nook and cranny on this planet, the lines are blurred. Each person has to decide their version of what is right and what is not. And so far, you haven’t told me anything that, according to my version, isn’t right about Snapper Kavanaugh or his Club.”

'Rough Ride' is a novella set within the Chaos Motorcycle Club. I usually do not read novellas unless they are about my favorites and this 1001 Nights novella certainly piqued my curiosity. Snapper is a member of the Chaos MC and Rosalie first appeared in 'Own the Wind' (which I LOVED and highly recommend!) She was a sweet character who was cast aside by Shy so that he could be with the love of his life, Tabby Allen. Rosalie has a lot of love to give but hasn't had the best luck with her men.

Kristen Ashley does not shy away from the gritty, often violent world of motorcycle clubs. But she always, ALWAYS, balances out the dark with loyalty, love. family and friendship.

“It worked out in the end,” I told him.

“What?” he asked.

“I found the one who was perfect for me.”

He didn’t seem sated or amused or anything right then.

He stared down at me under him, his body connected with mine, and he looked at me in a way that I knew that earlier, he had not lied.

I was his world."

There is a lot of action, love, steaminess and Alpha goodness packed into this short story. If you are a fan of Ms. Ashley's stories, then welcome back to the Chaos world. You will love it!

You’ve been jacked around since your daddy died and I don’t think either man meant to do you wrong but in the end they did. And I’m the man who’s gonna do you right, Rosalie. With me, that rough ride is gonna end, baby.

I can still vividly remember the visceral reaction I had to Rosalie the first time she was introduced in the Chaos series. (Maybe that's because the scene stands out as a starkly emotional one in my mind, or maybe it's just because I've read Own the Wind no less than five times.)  Either way, when Tabby hid herself and her heartache behind a wall at the compound and watched Shy kiss his Rosalie, I instantly wanted her GONE. She'd done nothing other than catch the eye of a Chaos brother, but in that moment it was the wrong one and I had to dislike her for Tabby. But Rough Ride brings Rosalie through a whole lot of rough before finally seeing her through to easy when she finds the right brother in this novella and I couldn't be happier that I finally connected with this character.

Kristen Ashley has a way of reintroducing characters in her books and giving you a fresh perspective on them, their life and their place in the world she's built. In this novella, she takes Rosalie and Snapper, two relatively obscure characters, and gives them an unforgettable story packed with fierce attraction, horrific circumstances, and a well deserved happy ending. But its not really an ending at all, this novella, and that might be my most favorite thing about it.

This delicious little novella certainly doesn't hold the same weight in the grand scheme of things that Kristen Ashley's full length novels do. There's just no way to pack all the detail and emotion that Ashley is infamous for into so few words. But she does paint a solid, satisfying picture with Rough Ride, a slow burning dynamic that's finally able to flourish despite the harrowing circumstances that allow it to happen. AndI enjoyed every single moment of it.

This novella gives you the back story of how Snapper and Rosalie came to connect. It gives you a brutal account of what they've been through to get to where they are now. It gives you all the delicious admissions we long to hear from our Chaos alpha bikers and it guarantees you the absolute joy of reconnecting with so many beloved characters from this series. It  also gives you a taste of what's to come. This novella isn't all sweet. It's deliciously romantic and heartwarming the way every Kristen Ashley novel is, but it's edged in a dark sense of foreboding that dark days are ahead for Chaos. And I can't fucking wait.

4 'Perfect for me' Stars!

I was about to start Wild Like the Wind (KA's latest release in this series) and then I remembered she wrote this short story a while ago. I was very aware of the mixed reviews on Rough Ride and maybe that is why I haven't read it until now. But since I am so obssessed with reading series in order I had to read this first and well now I am glad because I definitely enjoyed this novella!

Yes, Rosie sometimes got on my nerves with her past issues but Snapper is one hell of a hero. I am always all over KA's amazing heroes and this one was no exception. He fights hard to keep his woman safe and he fights harder to make her fall in love with him. Also, I am always happy to reunite with all my beloved Chaos characters! Now, after that cliffhanger, I am more than ready for more. That felt super intense and I can't wait to read more!

You know, I bought this when it came out but did not read it till now, as I was a bit nervous about starting it. As I was not sure about Rosalie.

However, the romance part I liked. Both Rosalie and Snapper are suited for each other.

I felt like it was rushed and this felt a bit like a filler story.

What I did not like was the ending!

We jump ahead in time, so we are after book 6, and vague mentions made of what happened in that book. But things are very TENSE for the club, Tabby suffered a loss (with no context this is just thrown in).

Then it jumps forward again to something happening, which we are clearly not going to get to till after Hounds book so at least book 7.

We have it alluded to at the end that there are possible splits in the club. Stuff is not good. I feel like KA might be ramping up to pull a Fanetti (an author I refuse to read btw).

Oh and the use of the word Cranium was just weird. Just say head ffs. And Shy and Tabby's baby has a nickname, ok, fine, but it is Playboy!! As he is a flirt! He is a baby!!

All in disappointing, and not for the reasons I was worried about. I actually wanted more for Rosalie and Snap. Instead of the rushed filler story we got.

And now I have to dread what is coming for Chaos.

If this series does not end with Tack as president, and everyone still bloody well alive then I will be displeased!

It pains me to say that this book just didn't do nothing for me. I needed this novella to have been a full length book so I could get the connection between Snapper and Rosalie cause from what I got, I just didn't get. There are a lot of vague scenes(which is understandable cause they might be spoilers for future books) and the epilogue was too cliffy for my liking. I will say that I absolutely loved seeing characters from other series make an appearance and for that it bumped my rating to a 3 instead of a 2.

Another good thing that happened with this story is the theories that I've been texting with friends with. OH THE FUCKING THEORIES

But I'll still get a signed copy to add to my collection. HA!

CHAOS lite.

Honorable, do the right thing Rosalie betrays tries to reform her old man's biker gang and gets the squat beaten out of her. In steps mega beta, nice guy biker chick guy Snapper.

Okay, fine. I love the CHAOS gang, but this did not rev my engines despite having two such nice characters.

What did rev my engines are the not so subtle hints that KA drops at the ending.

Minimal chin lifting.

This was a miss for me. I don't think Rosalie needed her own book, she should have stayed a side character. I didn't particularly like her or her mum. Because it was a novella I don't feel we got the character/relationship development between Snapper & Rosalie and it felt like she was "never having another relationship" to BOOM being in love. Was not a fan of the Tabby involvement in the beginning that was just silly & let's not mention the knuckle dusters *rolls eyes*. Tabby & Rosalie would never have become close friends that I thought was unrealistic & don't get me started on the ending very cloak & dagger, overall a disappointing 2 stars.

Rough Ride was exactly that - at least in the beginning. KA always brings on the feels, from her complex characters to the deep storyline to the complicated plot... And I loved every second.

After re-read:
Rosalie and Snap are still as golden as I remembered. I especially loved how they enjoyed quiet time just the two of them - lounging and reading, chatting, and taking care of each other.
