~ A phrase recited by members of the Imperial Remnant. |
Thrawn's Confederation, often referred as the Imperial Remnant, are major antagonists in the Star Wars franchise, specifically serving as the main antagonists of the New Republic era.
It was a military alliance of various Imperial warlords led by Grand Admiral Thrawn, who returned from his exile on the planet Peridea. The alliance was also overseen by the reorganized Shadow Council.
History[]
Background[]
After Emperor Palpatine's death at the hands of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, Thrawn, who was in exile on the planet Peridea on the far side of the Galaxy with his remaining forces aboard the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Chimaera, began making plans of escaping his exile, and assuming command over what remained of the Empire. His currently active allies, such as Captain Pellaeon, began reorganizing some of the scattered Imperial forces into a combined Imperial Remnant in an effort to destroy the New Republic and restore the Galactic Empire,
Realizing Thrawn was still alive, former Jedi Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, began her search for him, hoping to prevent another Galactic Civil War.
The Mandalorian[]
Season One[]
The confederation is the overarching antagonists of the first season. With it mainly focusing on Moff Gideon's forces, as his mysterious ally attempted to capture Grogu, so he could be used in Dr. Pershing's cloning project for Gideon. However, the plan was foiled, and a lot of Moff Gideon's forces were destroyed on Nevarro.
Season Two[]
Gideon once again attempted to retrieve Grogu, and though he succeeded in capturing him, Din Djarin, more commoly known as the Mandalorian, and his allies launched a rescue mission and defeated Gideon and all his forces aboard his light cruiser. Leading to his arrest by the New Republic. Though he would escape not too long after, and returned to his remnant's headquarters on Mandalore.
Season Three[]
The existence of the alliance was confirmed in the episode "Chapter 23: The Spies." In this episode, Pellaeon, Brendol Hux, Gideon, and others are planning for the Empire’s return to power. Gideon questioned the absence of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Anticipating an attack by the Mandalorians to reclaim Mandalore, Gideon requested Hux to send him TIE fighter/bomber reinforcements, as well as three Praetorian Guards, as backup.
The Mandalorian resistance battled Gideon's forces on the Imperial base on Mandalore, ending with Gideon's death, the destruction of his base, and Mandalore being reclaimed by the Mandalorians.
Ahsoka[]
Season one[]
After escaping New Republic custody with the help of the Dark Jedi, Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, Morgan Elsbeth reassumed command over her forces, and set out to bring Thrawn back from his exile. However, they were also being pursued by Ahsoka Tano and her apprentice Sabine Wren, whom wanted to prevent Thrawn’s return, and find their friend Ezra Bridger, who was also trapped on Peridea with Thrawn.
Constructing the Eye of Sion, a hyperspace ring large enough to fit a Star Destroyer. They planned to obtain the map to Peridea from Ahsoka, and travel there.
After a battle on Peridea that left their ally Marrok dead and Ahsoka disappearing, Elsbeth and her forces captured Sabine, and obtained the map which showed them the directions to Peridea. By the time New Republic ships arrived, they had made the jump into hyperspace.
After a long journey, they finally made it to Peridea, where they rendezvoused with Thrawn and the Great Mothers, whom they had formed an alliance with. While preparing for their departure, thrawn had his Night Troopers load thousands of Caskets from the Great Mother's fortress onto the Chimaera, which apparently held the key to restoring the Dathomiri people.
Thrawn then sent Sabine to find for Ezra, as he wanted to kill both of them before they escaped. However, Ahsoka made it to Peridea with the help of Purrgils, and regrouped with Sabine and Ezra. Baylan and Shin soon split from Thrawn's forces, and both went their separate ways on Peridea.
Soon, Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra broke into the Great Mothers' fortress and attempted to prevent their escape. Morgan Elsbeth and other night troopers attempted to fight them off, but Morgan would be killed by Ashoka. Saddened by her death, thrawn had the fortress destroyed in an attempt to kill Ashoka and Sabine. Meanwhile Ezra had made it onto Thrawn’s ship, and disguised as a night trooper.
Soon, Thrawn had the Chimaera dock with the Eye of Sion, and they escaped into hyperspace, thus stranding Ashoka and Sabine on Peridea. Thrawn and his forces then went to the planet Dathomir with the Great Mothers and their cargo. Meanwhile, Ezra escaped the Chimaera and returned to the New Republic.
