Vocal performance[]
- He was voiced by Frank Welker, who also voices Godzilla in the 1998 film of the same name, Little Sergei in The Secret Life of Pets 2, Krang Three in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, Constance Nebbercracker in Monster House, the Spiny Mandrilla in The Croods: A New Age, Mor'du in Brave, the Turbo Toilet 2000 in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, the Indoraptor in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Rudy in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
Personality[]
Throughout the episode “I Had an Accident”, the Gorilla himself is portrayed as an animalistic brute who relentlessly beats Patrick and Sandy even if they did nothing wrong. It is possible that the gorilla himself enjoys the brutality that he inflicts on his victims, as shown when he cheered when he tears SpongeBob apart or just having fun giving Patrick and Sandy an over the top beatdown. Although animalistic in nature, once SpongeBob pointed out something wrong, the Gorilla then suddenly had a realization and suddenly gained somewhat of a sapience, seemingly realizing that he would not last underwater for long and runs off with his friend, George, into the sunset. Although not much is known about the gorilla because he is shrouded with mystery, it is possible that the gorilla himself is a personification of fear and dangers of the unknown for SpongeBob if it increasingly gets worse which is the reason why he appeared out of nowhere in the thin air.
Biography[]
After SpongeBob’s butt was heavily injured when he and his friends, Patrick and Sandy, were sandboarding together as SpongeBob decided to do a dangerous stunt, SpongeBob was then rushed into hospital as his butt was recovered for 20 hours straight. This causes the Doctor to remind him that if he has another similar injury, he would end up in a machine known as the Iron Butt, unable to move and being stuck in a machine for the rest of his life. Seeing that he didn’t want to become a person that ended up in the Iron Butt, SpongeBob tries to protect his butt no matter what it takes. After seeing several Bikini Bottomites doing several activities that put their butts in danger, such as playing rugby sports or the Bikini Bottomites forming a line to be spanked, this resulted in SpongeBob sheltering himself from the outside world in order to keep himself safe.
When Sandy and Patrick try to persuade SpongeBob to do a sandboard sport again, SpongeBob refuses their offer to do so as he feels safe indoors. In addition, he also made friends such as a potato chip named Chip, an actual penny named Penny and a used Napkin. Seeing SpongeBob in a paranoid state, Sandy and Patrick decided to help SpongeBob to find several activities that were deemed fun so that SpongeBob could enjoy the outside world again. However, SpongeBob still refuses their offer and prefers to stay indoors much to Sandy’s dismay. Due to SpongeBob's stubbornness, Sandy and Patrick decided to unleash their trump card: having Patrick wear a gorilla suit so that he could pretend to attack Sandy as SpongeBob would rescue her. However, SpongeBob doesn't fall for it because he is aware who the person in the gorilla suit is due to the fact Patrick wore it last halloween. When Patrick still pretends to be a gorilla to attack, another Patrick appears which makes Sandy, Patrick, and Spongebob confused. This resulted in the second Patrick revealing his true identity to be a live-action angry Gorilla.
After revealing himself as a Live-Action Gorilla, the Gorilla becomes angry and starts by grabbing Patrick and Sandy like a squeaky toy while putting them in a giant sack. The gorilla then relentlessly beats and tortures Sandy and Patrick and uses the sack as a bouncing ball. In addition, he also hit the sack with a chair and uses the sack as a punching bag. Despite SpongeBob refusing to rescue Patrick and Sandy, with the "convincing efforts" of Chip, SpongeBob ended up having no choice but to rescue them anyways while also telling him to take care of Gary, who proceeds to eat him. After SpongeBob went outside, he experienced somewhat of a panic attack because a piece of paper flew onto his face. However, he manages to conquer his fear of going outside. Despite this, after the moment SpongeBob steps into the outside world and conquers his fear, the Gorilla then grabs SpongeBob and tears him apart. Seeing that he, Sandy and Patrick were attacked by the mad gorilla, SpongeBob then apologizes to his friends for his stubbornness (thinking he is responsible) and also tells them that he is terrified of gorillas now. In spite of this, SpongeBob’s first half ended up becoming confused about why a Gorilla would exist underwater in the first place. This caused the Gorilla (who reveals he can talk) to have a realization and mumbles about his motivation before calling his friend, a horse named George, and they ran away together with him riding George into the sunset. Afterwards, SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy watch them running away to the sunset. After seeing the scene where Gorilla ran away through the sunset with George, the episode ends with a live-action family becoming confused with the scene as they turned off the TV in the end.
Although it is unconfirmed if it's the same Gorilla or not, the Gorilla appears in the episode “Friend or Foe” as a minor character during the last moments of the Patchy the Pirate segments. After Patchy was doing his job abysmally in the Poop Deck restaurant, it was revealed that Patchy was replaced by a Gorilla, who is revealed to be a competent cook compared to Patchy. Seeing what happened, Patchy then became angry and without thinking calls the gorilla "a smelly, hairy fleabag". Predictably, this enrages the gorilla and as a form of retaliation, he then relentlessly attacks Patchy by throwing food at him as a lesson. It is likely that after the episode ends, the Gorilla was then fired for making a mess in the kitchen.
