Biography[]
"Under the Influence"[]
Erica Colburn is from Aubrey Shephard's old neighborhood. She just moved to Chadwick Hill in Odyssey because her father, Kevin, just got a job as vice president at Novacom. However, Chadwick Hill is a gated community and they didn't like the truck of Ben Shepard, so she denied giving them a ride there. Her house is amazing and her room has a lot of spider decorations and Death Wish cds. Erica revealed that back home, the people thought the Shepards were weird due to being religious and living at the Timothy Center. Aubrey said she's not like her parents and they decided to do some fun together. She buys an outfit for Aubrey with her money due to not having much allowance and gets herself a haircut. At Whit's End, Erica tries to order a drink from Connie, but she was busy due to being the only one there, Erica suspected something was wrong from the "Help Wanted" sign. Realizing that Aubrey is buying somewhat cheap food, Erica suggests that she take the job at Whit's End. Although, for the first few days, she made a mess of milkshakes and burnt some napkins. Aubrey feels guilty about lying to her parent since she said it was for college, but Erica said some of the money was for it, she also wanted her to attend public school with her.
Meanwhile, Whit met with Kevin to find out more about Novacom. Kevin saw Whit's End as a strong influence and that Whit has some problems with Novacom's programming, but he states that they have different ideas than him and they shouldn't force beliefs onto each other. Whit argues that he's doing it towards hundreds of kids, Kevin ignores him and repeats leaving each other alone. He offers him commercials for Whit's End, but Whit declines and politely leaves.
Connie asks Aubrey about Erica, she makes her wonder if she's a good friend to Erica. During school, Erica tries to convince Aubrey to come to the party of someone named Craig on Jamal Street during a pep rally. Erica is disgusted that Aubrey doesn't have a sense of adventure and has her ditch school for the mall and a movie, saying a friend of hers in the principal's office covers for her. During a walk in the park, Connie spots them and talks with Aubrey later and she was disappointed, but reluctantly agree to not tell her parents if she never did it again. Erica sneaks into Whit's End to see her and by pointing out that she didn't actually promise that to Connie, she congratulates Aubrey for finally learning to look out for herself.
Aubrey's parents realize that something is wrong with her upon seeing skull earrings, she says that she just convinced Erica to give them to her so she wouldn't get in trouble. However, Aubrey realizes that she may be in trouble, but she agrees to Erica that she'll go to the party. During the party, the cops arrive! One of the guests, Todd, drops off Aubrey's purse to Connie, causing her to chew her out and forced her to tell her parents. When they haven't come home yet, Connie then comes to the Timothy Center to gently tell Aubrey that she's fired after talking with Whit. Aubrey is outraged, but Connie's argued that she's been using her just like Erica but she just goes back into her house. To make matters worse, her parents know that she's been skipping classes (a student was forging excuse slips) and getting fairly bad grades, so they've already decided to pull her out of public school and forbid her from Erica anymore.
Aubrey then comes to Erica's house from the window to tell her what happened, Erica blames Aubrey's parents for this. She gave Aubrey a cell phone who decided to run away with her, first meeting up at the chapel. Though her father was in the chapel praying and he talked to her, Connie was available to talk to her. Erica has Todd drive them to her aunt's house in his new car. When Aubrey has second thoughts about her parents, Erica dares her to drive the car back home herself. Aubrey does but then runs a red light so the police would notice them, Erica told them it was all Aubrey's idea! As a result, she was taken to the police station before being picked up by her parents, who were quite upset. When she goes missing that night, Ben suspected that she went back to Erica's before they find her in the chapel praying. It was during this time that Aubrey realized that the things Erica said only sounded cool, unlike her parents, she'd be quick to ditch her if she doesn't follow along with her.
"Twisting Pathway"[]
Sometime later, she goes to find her dad, Kevin, so he can take her to the mall. However, Kevin is very busy, so Erica tries to find out what's going on by listening on the intercom. She heard that Mr. Charles is taking over her father's job as their plans are becoming a fiasco, which means he'll fire him within a week unless he gets the Imagination Station. Realizing that her father's in trouble, she's tries to go to Erica for help. She also met Nick Mulligan and apologized for what happened, she asks for forgiveness since she became a Chrisitan. As Nick leaves, Aubrey is unsure, Erica decided to give her time and wanted to go to the Imagination Station for a history project. However, Aubrey tells her Whit closed it (due experiencing something horrifying when implanting a Novacom part into it), so Erica leaves and tells Aubrey to think about what she said.
The next day, Erica returns and meets with Nick since Aubrey is off today. She convinces Nick to let her use it tonight in the basement in exchange for pizza, he doesn't know about her nature. However, Kevin realizes what Erica was trying to do and forbade her getting involved with this stuff. Of course, Erica doesn't listen, but then she and Nick discover that the station was taken apart. Nick then reveals a tunnel in Whit's End that was used for the Underground Railroad. Seeing Kevin and his wife, Maria, in tough water, Erica decided to tell Mr. Charles about the tunnel so they can retrieve the station themselves, but she demands that Kevin keeps his job and not tell Erica about this. However, Charles warns her that if she gets caught and blames him, he could deeply incriminate Kevin enough to completely ruin him.
She then meets with Aubrey when she closes up Whit's End, she needed to talk to her. While still distrusting her, she decided to talk with her in the library. Aubrey admits that it was wrong for her to give you a second chance after Whit and Connie did, not expecting that, Erica forgives her and so does Aubrey. Erica then admits to her that she did something she regrets now and wants her to pray for her. Suddenly, Aubrey hears someone outside the door, whoever was there locked the door, trapping them inside! While Whit manages to save them, Erica turns pales and leaves, realizing that it was someone from Novacom who also stole the Imagination Station. Whit believes that Erica set this whole thing up, Aubrey remembers that she went out with Nick the other night. Erica then finds out that Kevin got fired due to not being involved in this, he was quite mad that she didn't listen to him. To make matters worse, Charles said they had to leave Odyssey for safety reasons, much to her utter dismay.
Legacy[]
Chris Anthony said that what happened to her was justified due to Erica's deception and manipulation compared to Aubrey's kindness and honesty. It is unknown what happened to her since she left Odyssey. When Whit and Agent Peter Bourland went to the Novacom building to look for Kevin, Mr. Charles told them that he and his family they went on vacation to the Bahamas. Nick felt guilty for inadvertently helping Novacom by telling Erica about the tunnel. However, it was also used against them as Robert Mitchell later used it as a plan to rescue Connie when she got kidnapped by Charles just before Novacom's Launch Date.
Trivia[]
- Coincidentally, Erica is the second girl to be a toxic influence on a main kid protagonist. The first being Rachael Woodworth, the half-sister of Richard Maxwell, who was a bad influence on Donna Barclay.
