"Barry Muntz" is a minor antagonist of the story arc, The Novacom Saga, in the radio show, Adventures in Odyssey.
He is voiced by Corey Burton, who also voiced Count Dooku and Cad Bane in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Biography[]
In the episode "Breaking Point", Mary Hopkins introduces her friend, Barry Muntz, to John Avery Whittaker while he was working on the new Imagination Station at Whit's End in Connellsville. Mary offers him to help Whit with the Imagination Station, but Whit says he doesn't want anyone else looking at the Imagination Station plans. However, after Whit visited Alex Jefferson, who got trapped in the Imagination Station back in Odyssey, he calls Mary and accepts her offer in letting Barry help.
Nocavom, the company he secretly works for
A few days later, Whit shows up at the Connellsville Whit's End. Mary says Barry is already finished with the Station without showing her how to work it, another employee named Sam Hutchinson drove him to the airport so he could catch a plan. Mary was amazed at her speedy process, but when Whit takes a look, some of the inner circuitry and the plans are missing! They call police and Mary apologizes to Whit and wonders how Barry could have betrayed her. The detective says that Barry was just an alias and that he was involved in stealing company secrets and selling them to others. Luckily, it was revealed that Whit left out a key component of the Station that causes it to not work as a precaution.
At the unknown airport, Barry hands the plans over to Bennett Charles (though unknown in the episode). He gives Barry money and a plane ticket to South America; he must flee the country for about a year or two. Barry was surprised but Charles had already informed his family in Oregon, his mother thought it was nice that he was working with the poor in Ecuador. It is unknown if that's what he'll do but Charles doesn't care, he just doesn't want him back in the United States until they tell him to or else "more will expire than [his] contract." Just as Barry is about to walk away, Charles gives him a final warning saying that the plans better work.
In "The Black Veil", it was revealed that another company owned by Novacom, Veil Industries, sold satellite boxes to people. However, they are using radio waves to make people angry and mean to others. They contain the same circuitry of the Imagination Station, revealing why Barry stole the plans, but the part Whit left out was replaced by something else. When Whit tested it in the Imagination Station, it was way worse, like he was every evil person in the world. However, when Whit visits the satellite company, he finds that the boxes were already recalled and Veil had disappeared.
In "Exit" Barry (not referred to by name but heard as Corey Burton) was seen with the chairman of Andromeda Incorporated. Barry then flies him to Connellsville so he can monitor their plan, just as they are off the ground however, Barry sees Whit in his car on the road, he was heading for the utility shack. The Chairman then has Barry call Charles about his backup plan about kidnapping Connie Kendall. However, so after they arrive at Connellsville, Barry and the Chairman find that Charles' plan failed and Whit had Tom Riley destroy the Imagination Station in the shack, so Novacom's plan were foiled. It is unknown what happened to Barry Muntz after this.
