- "There have not been battles like these since the days of the Old Republic."
"Indeed. Good hunting." - ―Saesee Tiin and Plo Koon
The Old Republic-era[6] also known as the age of the Old Republic[7] was an epic[3] period of time thousands of years before the First Order-Resistance War.[8] The overall era began after the Dawn of the Jedi era[3] and started with the Expansionist Period following the formation of the Galactic Republic:[9] the Republic was founded by the planets of the Core Worlds during the start of the Old Republic Era, with the Jedi Order emerging as its protector.[3] The Galactic Republic, which existed between around 25,000 BBY and 19 BBY, was also known as the Old Republic.[10] However, it was during the Old Republic period that a schism occurred amongst the ranks of the Jedi:[3] a rogue Jedi embraced the ways of the dark side of the Force and rejected the ways of the light side, instead forming the Sith[11] during a conflict known as the Hundred-Year Darkness.[12]
The Mandalorian warrior people were also a major faction during the days of the Old Republic.[13] A smaller part of the overall era was the Middle Era of the Old Republic.[2] The end of the time period came with the fall of the Old Republic. During the fall of the Old Republic,[13] the Mandalorians of House Vizsla attacked the Jedi Order on Coruscant[14] and sacked the Jedi Temple,[15] reclaiming the Mandalorian Darksaber in the process.[14] The protocol droid ME-8D9 was believed to have belonged to the Jedi Order during the Old Republic era.[8] A near complete set of Mandalorian rally master armor owned by crime lord Dryden Vos dated back to the Old Republic-era.[6]
