Hyper Mode[1] (ハイパーモード Haipāmōdo?) is a move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a special state that can be activated in any fight by all fighters in order to increase the speed of their moves and unlock access to special Hyper Moves. However, the fighters lose some of their shields in the process of doing so.
Overview[]
In Sonic the Fighters, it is a temporary state accessible by everyone in standard matches. It can be performed by performing the following commands > + / Hold > + on the ground or while in midair with at least one Barrier in order to use it.
For the final fight against Dr. Robotnik, the characters toss the Chaos Emeralds into the air right before fighting him. They activate it in order to beat Eggman in less than fifteen seconds and escape the destruction of the Death Egg II.
Trivia[]
- The loss of shields while using Hyper Mode is similar to the Fighting Vipers version, where armor can be discarded in lieu of faster attacks. Unfortunately, this will leave the player prone to enemy attacks unless one thinks quickly.
- According to the official Japanese guide of Sonic Heroes, Sonic, Knuckles and Tails entered a "Hyper Mode" during the Metal Overlord fight, though its usage is not completely clear.[2]
- A similar event happens in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games during the Sonic World Dream Figure Skating, although it looked slightly different, and is used to take down a smaller, frozen Perfect Chaos.
- Knuckles is the only one to have more than one special Hyper Move when in Hyper Mode, whereas Tails is the only one to have no special Hyper Move.
