Gregorios (グレゴリウス Guregoriusu?, "Γρηγόριος") is a character that appears in Sonic Unleashed. He is a human resident of Apotos who serves as the town's elder and priest.
History[]
Xbox 360/PlayStation 3[]
Gregorios has lived his whole life in Apotos. Following the shattering of the earth in the beginning of Sonic Unleashed, Gregorios' worries for the townspeople's safety and the planet's following fate let to him to developing a slight degree of insomnia. At some point around this time, Gregorios was possessed by Dark Gaia's Minions, with their influence causing Gregorios to lose interest in everything around him at night, including his own worries and did not care what would happen as the planet now had shattered, but would then return to normal during the day.
When Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip arrived at Apotos, Gregorios met the duo and was pleasantly surprised to see these new travelers. Upon meeting them, Gregorios gave some advice for Sonic and Chip to go by when navigating in Apotos, and provided directions for them to the local Entrance Stage. He was then asked by Sonic if he had seen Chip from somewhere before, but Gregorios told them that he had no recollection of seeing him. During the following nightfall, Gregorios met Sonic and Chip again. However, due to the influence of Dark Gaia's minions, Gregorios told Sonic and Chip that he was not shocked by Sonic's nightly appearance or in anything now that the world was ending.
Gregorios continued to have this behavior for some time, shifting between his moods whenever it became day and night, though he was aware that strange feelings overwhelmed him at night. Whenever Gregorios encountered Sonic and Chip during the day in this period, he would be interested in hearing about Sonic and Chip's travels. He would also tell Sonic and Chip about the weird feelings he got at night, worried that it could be monster, dark spirits, ghosts, robbers or even stalkers. During the nighttime in this period, however, Gregorios would express his indifference to Sonic and Chip, telling them that nothing mattered anymore and offered them to go as wild as they wanted.
Eventually, Gregorios was freed from the influence of Dark Gaia's Minions when Sonic the Werehog and Chip returned and exorcised him. As Gregorios recovered, he could sense the dark presence was gone, but claimed he could not relax yet as he believed they could still lurk in the area. He was however too afraid to look for them himself. Afterwards, he told Sonic and Chip that it was undeniably the presence of dark spirits that he felt earlier, and that the very thought of them attacking again left him so worried that he thought that he may never be able to sleep again.
Following his exorcism, Gregorios would spend his daytime trying to exorcise nearby dark spirits. He would however apologize for startling Sonic whenever he tried to exorcise him.
During nightfall some time afterwards, Gregorios got scared when he finally got a good look on Sonic the Werehog. He calmed down however when saw that Sonic was the one who helped him, but admitted that his appearance was frightening. Sonic then told him that he was Sonic the Hedgehog, but Gregorios found it hard to believe and decided to test Sonic. Having heard that Sonic is faster than sound, Gregorios requested Sonic (in his werehog form) to retrieving his glasses from outside town in the blink of an eye. After Sonic returned with his glasses, Gregorios admitted to Sonic that he was fast and that he should now believe he was the real Sonic, but he still could not accept it.
During the following night, Sonic returned, and Gregorios began to find Sonic the Werehog's appearance even more frightening. Claiming that he could not accept that he was the real Sonic just because he was fast, Gregorios decided to test Sonic again. This time, Gregorios wanted to see if the werehog had Sonic's legendary courage by seeing if he could fend off his attackers and protect him. After Sonic succeed once more, Gregorios started to think that he might be the real Sonic, but could not look beyond Sonic the Werehog's scary appearance and began having second thoughts.
During the third night, Gregorios still found Sonic the Werehog scary and claimed that he still could not accept that he was Sonic just because he was fast and brave. Having heard that Sonic is a kind soul who frees the oppressed, Gregorios tested Sonic once more by seeing if he could find his lost book as a test of kindness. After Sonic passed Gregorios' test, Gregorios admitted it was a kind act and admitted that he was finally beginning to believe that he was the real Sonic. He then listen to how Sonic reverted between forms, but wondered how this was possible and started to doubt him again.
As the fourth night arrived, Gregorios said that he could not get over Sonic the Werehog's scary appearance, even though he had passed all his tests. Therefore, as a final test, Gregorios enlisted Sonic to find the town's true treasure, as only Sonic would be able to do it. After Sonic succeeded in finding the treasure, the Maiden Statue, and handed it over to Gregorios, Gregorios announced with great joy that he was finally convinced that the werehog was the one, true Sonic.
Following his conviction, Gregorios asked Sonic to save the planet and said that he would remain in Apotos, praying for his success. Gregorios would afterward, during daytime, provide Sonic with hints on where to go next on his journey after "receiving messages from above".
Wii/PlayStation 2[]
During the events of Sonic Unleashed, when Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip arrived at Apotos, Gregorios greeted them and asked what had brought them here. He was then asked by Sonic if he knew Chip, but Gregorios said that he could not recall seeing him. He then revealed that his head was filled with thoughts about the local Sacred Shrine, and that since the tremors from the planet's shattering had made the town's tourist visits decline, he had being worrying about their town facing ruin. Noticing that Sonic and Chip had come all this way, however, Gregorios led them to the Sacred Shrine.
During the following night, Gregorios met up with Sonic and Chip again, but he could not recognize Sonic as a Werehog and asked if they had met before. He did not believe, however, that Sonic was the same person he led to the shrine when Sonic told him, and mentioned that he had heard Eric leading a yellow fox to the same shrine. He also mentioned that the streets of their town had become dangerous with signs of ghosts, and told Sonic to be careful.
From then on, whenever Gregorios talked to Sonic at night, he did not believe he was the blue hedgehog he met that afternoon and told him to stay away whenever Sonic looked at him.
Personality[]
Gregorios is mild-mannered and deeply trusted by the townspeople due to his honesty and integrity. However, he tends to be a worrywart over even the slightest things.
