You need a space-time rift, but this requires a lot of energy.

Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

Dual Chaos Control[1] is a move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a technique in which two near-simultaneous instances of Chaos Control create a space-time rift, which allow someone to travel through time and space.

Description[]

Dual Chaos Control is a chaos power that utilizes a large amount of energy to create a space-time rift.[2] When this phenomenon occurs, said rift will appear next to the users, which then stays open for a limited time. Entering the rift allows someone to choose to travel to a specific point in either the past or the future, from about twenty-four hours to 200 years. It also seems to allow for travel across space to different locations, such as from the train yard on the edges of Soleanna to the underwater research facility beneath Soleanna Castle Town.

Dual Chaos Control actually requires the energy of two individuals simultaneously inducing Chaos Control, which itself uses the latent energy of the Chaos Emeralds to manipulate space and time. [2][3] Dual Chaos Control can be realized by two inductions of Chaos Control performed with the intention of initiating it, or it can be induced on sheer accident due to incidental usages of Chaos Control in close proximity to each other.[4] This technique requires not only two individual users, but at least two Chaos Emeralds.[2]

Overview[]

In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Dual Chaos Control first occurred in Flame Core, where Sonic and Shadow used the two Chaos Emeralds they had acquired to create a space-time rift that they, Rouge, Tails and Knuckles could return to the present day with. While Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Rouge were able to use it go back to the present-day Soleanna New City, Shadow stayed behind when Mephiles the Dark appeared, with the rift eventually closing behind him.

Later on, while fighting each other, Silver and Shadow triggered a Dual Chaos Control, thereby creating a space-time rift, when they induced Chaos Control simultaneously with their respective Chaos Emeralds during an attack on each other. The two proceeded to use it to travel back in time ten years to the Solaris Project to understand Mephiles' intentions after Shadow revealed Mephiles was aiming to destroy the past, not help Silver's future. After that, they performed Dual Chaos Control again to return to the present, with the white hedgehog lingering briefly to give a young Princess Elise the blue Chaos Emerald before using the space-time rift too.

Dual Chaos Control was used one more time by Sonic and Silver with their respective Chaos Emeralds so that the former could go back in time and prevent Elise's death onboard the Egg Carrier. With a space-time rift formed, the blue hedgehog used it to arrive in Soleanna New City the day before, while Silver and Blaze used it to go to the future.

Dual Chaos Control

Professor Gerald Robotnik theorizes about Dual Chaos Control's time traveling capabilities, from Shadow Generations.

In Shadow Generations, Professor Gerald Robotnik, while talking to Shadow in White Space, theorizes that Shadow, with another Chaos Control user, could potentially open a portal in time with Dual Chaos Control, naming the technique overtly for the first time within the Sonic games.

Trivia[]

  • It appears that there is a little bit of imprecision when traveling through time with Dual Chaos Control, as when Team Sonic and Rouge utilize the same rift to travel to the present-day Soleanna New City, as well as when Shadow and Silver do the same, they arrive at the city at different times. Later on, Sonic, Silver, and Blaze all enter the same portal, but go in opposite directions, Sonic arriving a few moments earlier in the past, while Silver and Blaze go to the ruined future.
