Capsakid (Japanese: カプサイジ, HepburnKapusaiji) (KAP-suh-KID[1]) is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Capsakid is a small, green plant like Pokemon that resembles the kappa of Japanese folklore. It lacks arms and has a short stubby tail. Its head has a wide, round cap that splits into 6 radially, and has a small green section on top. Its orange beak-like mouth has a single buck tooth. It has 2 black beady eyes.

Behavior[]

Capsakid is commonly favored among local chefs since the shed tooth this Pokémon leaves behind gives off an extremely spicy aroma and is used as an ingredient in most Paldean dishes.

Natural Abilities[]

The amount of spiciness that Capsakid produces is determined by how long it sunbathes; the more sunlight Capsakid absorbs, the more spicy chemicals are produced as well as the moves it uses in battle.

Evolution[]

Capaskid evolves into Scovillain when exposed to a Fire Stone.

Pokédex entries[]

  • Scarlet

The more sunlight this Pokémon bathes in, the more spicy chemicals are produced by its body, and thus the spicier its moves become.

  • Violet

Traditional Paldean dishes can be extremely spicy because they include the shed front teeth of Capsakid among their ingredients.

    Trivia[]

    • Capsakid is the only Grass type to evolve via Fire Stone (as opposed to a Leaf Stone), and the only Pokemon not in the Field Egg group to do so.

    Origin[]

Capsakid's design and Japanese category implies it is based on an immature pepper, like a habanero. Due to its cap and beak, it resembles the Kappa of Japanese folklore. It also somewhat resembles a newly hatched baby dinosaur with its cap resembling an egg shell (unlike Togepi, this is likely not an actual eggshell).

    Etymology[]

Capsakid's name comes from "capsaicin," the chemical compound that contributes to the heat of chili peppers, as well as "kappa" and "kid."
