“ | Hope lives! It is everywhere! I've seen it. Everyone you have touched. The people you have helped. You saved them! (...) Jack, don't listen! You're being misguided! I've seen it! You've saved COUNTLESS innocents-but most of all. (...) You showed me the truth! You made me see that there's so much more to me than I know existed! You made me way more than what I was! (...) The hope you gave me SAVED MY LIFE! | „ |
~ Ashi to Jack, giving him back his hope and fighting spirit. |
“ | Jack, don't you see? Everything that has happened in our lives has brought us here. Right now...together. And together we're going to defeat Aku. | „ |
~ Ashi to Jack, right before Aku shows up. |
Ashi is the deuteragonist of the fifth season of Samurai Jack. She started out as one of the Daughters of Aku who were trained to slay Samurai Jack. But later, after being rescued by Jack and seeing the truth about Aku, she decides to tag along on Jack's quest. She later becomes Jack's love interest, later fiancée. In the video game, Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time, she becomes Jack's wife in the alternative ending which is canon in the series.
She is voiced by Tara Strong, who also voiced Bubbles in The Powerpuff Girls, Batgirl from DC Super Hero Girls 2019 and the younger Ben Tennyson in Ben 10.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- After learning about the outside world, she removed her corruptions from Aku and High Priestess's fanatical beliefs.
- She helped Jack save the innocent children from The Dominator's brainwashing.
- She saved Jack from the corruption of the Omen.
- She helped Jack regain his sword by protecting him from threats, including her mother, the High Priestess.
- While she did kill her, it was necessary because it was the last resort due to the Priestess's danger level and the priestess would never allow herself to be taken alive.
- She rejected Aku's corruption and helped Jack to return to the past, submitting the latter's quest of defeating Aku, despite the fact that this would prevent her birth.
- While she continued existing in Battle Through Time, she had no way of knowing that.
- After Aku killed her in Battle Through Time, Ashi came back to life due to Aku's time pockets and defeated her corrupted form, saving Jack.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She is too lethal to be PG, as she horribly maims and gruesomely kills every single member of the thousand strong Orc army, with many orcs left in a mangled heap to slowly bleed to death.
- Whilst the Orc army were hostile soldiers working for the High Priestess, Ashi was much stronger than them and was powerful enough to defeat some of them non lethally, as well as not prolong the suffering of the thousands of soldiers she killed.
Trivia[]
- Ashi is the only Cartoon Network Near Pure Good character that currently appears on Adult Swim.
- However, Skips was formerly on Adult Swim before Regular Show was on Cartoon Network instead because the show is edgy.
- Ashi is the only Samurai Jack character to be Near Pure Good.
- She was formerly approved as Inconsistently Admirable due to being way too lethal until she was approved as Near Pure Good because it is understandable since she only kills her enemies or those that threaten Jack.
- Ashi has one of the highest on screen kill counts in Samurai Jack, due to gruesomely murdering an entire army that numbered at least a thousand. Fittingly Ashi's own rival in causing onscreen deaths, is her father, Aku, whom massacred a similarly large army in the entire episode.
