Into the vortex Into the fray More eager fingers Look to point the blame Eyes wide and fist deep In the cookie jar Thought you were real smart, yeah? Like hell you are.. Like hell you are Out from the wreckage And still the same Life as a bloodsport And we lost the game Thrown onto the heap Close but no cigar Thought you’re above it, yeah? Like hell you are… Like hell you are Credits: Jason Sevanick: Guitar, Bass, Lyrics, Synth Joe King: Drums Lee-Loo: Vocals

Red Carpet 05:09
Welcome back A front row seat for the collapse We’re kindly asking for you to… Hold your applause Wait for all the teeth and jaws That are still gnashing Sacrificed for the spectacle Our lives commodified, our value null You’re out of luck, they’re out for blood They’re out for blood You’re clearly numb Maybe it was too much fun? You’re clearly numb Maybe it was too much fun? All that gasping They’re almost done Conditioned not to love As useless trappings Sacrificed for the spectacle The spectacle They’re almost done Conditioned not to love As useless trappings Credits: Jason Sevanick: Guitar, Bass, Lyrics, Synth, Piano Joe King: Drums Rick Furr: Guitar Tyler Wolosin: Vocals

Shakedown 04:40
Shake me down Shake me loose You bring the feathers And I’ll bring the goose When we climb the walls The crucifix falls I guess we’re just lost souls I guess we’re just lost souls Shake a leg Shake it off We’re under the wheel It’s harder to stop When the devil wants paid We’ll end the charade And sink back into our fish bowl At the end of the day We can’t shake it away I guess that’s how it goes Try as we may We can’t shake it away I guess we’re just lost souls I guess we’re just lost souls Credits: Jason Sevanick: Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Lyrics, Synth Joe King: Drums S.C. ‘Buja’ Balowski: Saxophone, Tuba

High Stepper 05:57
Look what I just found Lying there on the ground That certainly ain’t a shiny penny Some just step around Others don’t even look down Though the air is thick and inescapably heavy The bar crawlers are dazed But here I am unphased You tried your best But I’m one better The cops have long since gone I glide into the dawn Stand back, man I’m a real high stepper Look what I just found Lying there on the ground Someone’s trash is another’s treasure Striding without shame To uncommon acclaim Your disgust has been my pleasure It’s been my pleasure… Credits: Jason Sevanick: Guitar, Bass, Lyrics, Synth Joe King: Drums Monica D: Voice Rick Furr: Guitar S.C. ‘Buja’ Balowski: Saxophone Tyler Wolosin: Vocals

If you get too attached to an idea about who you are Then maybe you can’t become who you really ought to be Because you get stuck in place And stuck in time Diminished in body and mind While other things move Your looking glass has a narrow view So you can’t experience things in full And your heart grows cold And your eyes strain to see Fixed on how you thought things were As if that’s how they should be Credits: Jason Sevanick: Guitar, Bass, Voice, Lyrics, Organ, Electric Piano, Recorder Joe King: Drums S.C. ‘Buja’ Balowski: Saxophone

Gemini 04:04
16 knives to find A sound without a sign And heaven fades into One hell of a ride A finger to a scar Carry pain with pride But you haven’t peaked You’ve got some more to climb Hide away It’s so high away High away It’s so high away… The body first Then the memory Then hopes and dreams Of everyone I see Seem to atrophy The body first Then the memory Then hopes and dreams Of everyone I see Seem to atrophy Seem to atrophy Seem to atrophy Credits: Jason Sevanick: Guitar, Bass, Piano, Lyrics, Synth Joe King: Drums Paul Green: Viola, Lyrics S.C. ‘Buja’ Balowski: Saxophone Tyler Wolosin: Vocals, Lyrics

Sandglas 02:44
Hey now, not so fast Take your time to collapse Close your eyes and lean back Dive into the sandglas Credits: Jason Sevanick: Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Lyrics, Piano Joe King: Drums

about

Twin Obsidian is a hard-charging psychedelic rock album from Miscellen loosely themed around identities as double-edged swords, and the extents to which we consent as disposable pawns of systems that seek to define us or we cut through the layers of artifice and egos to truly understand and experience authentic selves (even when that dissection reveals our crowns were actually just cheap paper hats from a fast food joint).

In characteristic form, Miscellen bangs out acidic rock anthems with a gritty neo-noir tone, featuring wailing guitars, propulsive drums, and both male and female vocals that veer between impassioned urgency and strained screeds. But on Twin Obsidian, an ominous atmosphere becomes even thicker with intermittent saxophone, droning organs, and various electronic accents.

For an album about identities, ‘who is Miscellen?’ is a fair question. Maybe they’re a bunch of creeps ready with some side-eye if you show up to the wrong place at the wrong time. Or maybe they’re just some lil’ sweetie pies looking to cuddle. Guess you’ll have to listen and decide for yourself.

As Twin Obsidian’s first track, the aptly titled MONOLITH forgoes elaborate design and just hits like an imposing formation of solid rock. Then with heavy riffs and explosive groove, LIKE HELL YOU ARE excoriates the melee resulting from politicians and corporations trying to manipulate and commodify people’s identifies in their quest for power and profit, and how this exploitation leads people into curated personas that serve external interests rather than their own… and where nobody comes out unscathed.

After the nocturnal allure of DATURA and the menacing interlude of FISHTANK, RED CARPET reflects on the savagery that goes into and comes out of an entertainment machine, as the song throws you up against a thick wall of fuzz with elements of industrialized doom and trip-hop before a symphonic climax dissolves into singular strums of a mournful guitar.

Then cutting through the dust like a buzz saw, SHAKEDOWN features a swag beat and a clear invitation: come for the party, stay for the existential dread. Twin Obsidian rounds out with an enigmatic homage in HIGH STEPPER, a compelling case for ego death in A BLIND SPOT IN THE MIND’S EYE, a cinematic ballad in GEMINI about someone with a complicated past trying to ascend to a better future even when the journey is filled with other people who are content to languish, and lastly a rousing finale in SANDGLAS.

Available now as name-your-price on Bandcamp and coming soon to a disreputable retailer or streaming platform near you.
