The globular planet was a planet composed almost entirely of a dense liquid. It was located in the Sigma Draconis Group of the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant and was the homeworld of the Sigma fishmen.
Background[]
The chemical composition of the liquid was undetermined, but far denser than water. Some materials such as netting and metals either existed within the liquid or were able to be created out of the liquid by the intelligent natives. A wide variety of fish inhabited the world, from tiny forms to at least one creature large enough to swallow a human.
A strange force held the planet together.
History[]
In 2265, the USS Enterprise abruptly crashed into the globular planetary ocean. The liquid disabled propulsion, deflectors and weapons, leaving the Federation starship nearly helpless.
A large submarine towed the Enterprise toward an underwater city. James T. Kirk and Spock left the ship in pressure suits to speak with the native fishmen. Because Kirk and Spock were so unusual, they were seized and brought into the city for dissection. Kirk was able to escape and return with a rescue party. They commandeered a tank armed with a freeze gun cannon, which was used to envelop the Enterprise in ice to float it to the surface. Once the ship was out of the dense liquid, the deflectors broke the ice and the engines launched the starship back into space. (TOS comic: "Nor Any Drop to Drink")
