Beton III was a planet, the third planet of the remote Beton system, located in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant.
History[]
By the 2260s, Beton III had been charted, but it was unexplored. It appeared hazy blue from orbit and had a blue sky. Surface features included mountains, plateaus, oceans, and valleys. The Collector's museum was its only known surface structure.
In 2267, the USS Enterprise visited Beton III. Because the starship had recently been attacked by a flying saucer, James T. Kirk chose to explore the surface with extra caution, taking Spock and ten security officers with him aboard the armed shuttlecraft NCC-1701/8. The shuttle was shot down, and Kirk and Spock were captured by the Collector, who told them he intended to make the Enterprise one of his museum exhibits.
Kirk and Spock escaped in a Vickers Wellington World War II bomber, but were pursued by android pilots in Supermarine Spitfires and engaged in an aerial dogfight. Meanwhile, android duplicates of Kirk and Spock had boarded the Enterprise and taken the ship low into the planet's atmosphere. When Nyota Uhura and Montgomery Scott spotted the dogfight and became suspicious, the helmsman shook the ship, producing enough of a distraction for the crew to overcome the androids, and the ship was able to escape the atmosphere and return to space.
