Martin Mystery Wiki

Martin Mystery is the titular protagonist, a paranormal investigator for the Center, a student at Torrington Academy and the main protagonist of the animated series of the same name.

Background[]

Martin is just like any other 16-year-old, and has a wild passion for the paranormal. But after unwillingly solving an amazing "out of this world" mystery, he finds himself working as a paranormal investigator for "The Center". As the leader of a trio consisting of himself, his stepsister Diana and their caveman friend Java, Martin is also the only one who wears a U-Watch. Martin's first monster is Venoso, a female chameleon-like monster that has the power to shapeshift into any person she wants.

Appearance[]

Martin has apricot skin, spiky blonde hair and brown eyes.

His main outfit in every episode is a red and yellow short-sleeved jacket that he wears over a white t-shirt with a slate blue V-neck, grayish-tan pants and red and white sneakers that have white shoelaces. However, this isn't always set in stone: in some episodes, he wears a black long-sleeved turtleneck shirt underneath his red and yellow jacket.

Personality[]

Whether Martin is at school or on a mission, he always remains as the same clumsy, arrogant, immature and hyperactive nerd, constantly bursting with energy. He seldomly thinks before leaping into danger, even if it is to help someone in peril whenever they are on a mission, Martin always jumps into conclusions and comes up with every unlikely theory he can think of, usually from some movie he saw or from his subscription to "Paranormal Monthly".

Martin has a peculiar love for everything slimy, sloppy, and gooey - things that make Diana gag. His favorite hobby is teasing Diana by playing pranks and creeping her out, even though she often retaliates with physical abuse. A running gag in the series is Martin's constant flirting with every beautiful girl he meets, who usually reject him with verbal or (in Jenni's case) physical abuse.

Despite his flaws, Martin can be serious when it's necessary. He is very brave, really cares about his friends and family, and is always ready to help them when they are in danger. Also, he is very smart and often finds a way to defeat a monster or solve a mystery.

Powers and Abilities[]

Martin Mystery is a skilled extraterrestrial paranormal detective, and known for his use of U-Watch a high-tech watch-like device with numerous gadgetry stored within.

Relationships[]

Love Interests[]

Jenni Anderson[]

Jenni is Martin's unrequited love interest. She views Martin as immature based on the pranks he pulls on Diana and other students and calls him a "freak" and most of the time a "loser". But there are sometimes where Jenni seems interested in Martin because he acts like a gentleman but later has no memory of. Most of her memory was erased because it has paranormal ties to it, or Martin usually does something immature. Jenni is not seen for a semester at Torrington because she moves, but it is not clearly stated.

Caitlin[]

A girl who is very similar to Martin and seems to be interested in everything he likes. Caitlin likes the paranormal, monster movies, and comic books just like Martin. She is Martin's girlfriend for a brief amount of time until she dumps him because he missed a date with her when he was fighting a Djini that was driven by revenge on him.

Alexandra[]

He meets the "Totally Spies" in an episode crossover, "Totally Mystery Much?," investigating in the same case (Unfortunately, Diana and Java are absent and not involved in this episode for some reason). In the end of the episode, Alex and Martin end up liking each other because they both have common interests in video games and comic books. Unfortunately for them, their newfound romance is short-lived when Martin is called in by The Center to work on another paranormal case.

Clover[]

He had a crush on Clover (One of the 3 spies; Alex, Clover, and Sam) at first.

Friends[]

Samantha[]

The spies were obligated by Jerry (their boss who directs at an organization similar to The Center but called WOOHP, a.k.a World Organization of Human Protection) to team up with Martin to solve the case. He believes Samantha is like Diana due to her personality and refers to both of them as "buzzkills".

Family[]

Gerard Mystery[]

Gerard Mystery is Martin's father and Diana's stepfather. He is a rational and logical scientist who spends most of his time in the scientific field. Unlike his son, he considers anything related to the paranormal "balderdash". But in the eighth episode of Season 3, Wrath of the Torrington Worm, he finds out about the Center and is sworn to secrecy.

Diana Lombard[]

Diana Lombard is Martin's stepsister and usually the person who is the target of most of his pranks. She is serious, rational, and a straight A student as the exact opposite of her stepbrother. Unlike Martin, every time on a mission, she tries to rationalize everything, stating that it is local even the things that are to straighten up paranormalists. Diana has the hardest time keeping her cool and her temper around Martin when he makes fun of and scares her, causing her to slap, punch, kick or strike him with physical abuse. She works at the Center with Martin and is part of the team.

Trivia[]

  • Martin has a large scar on his lower left leg that he got in Attack of the Mothman from when he was luring the Mothman. He also has one on his stomach on the left side from a Spider Beast he encountered in an off-screen incident.
  • In the pilot episode, Martin's pants were originally going to be pink.
  • Martin has vampire heritage due to being the descendant of Gerard Montagne.
  • Martin and Marvin have a lookalike named Paul who appears on The Amazing Spiez episode Operation: The 50 Ft. Hacker.
  • Martin is similar to Sonic the Hedgehog from the Sonic series:
    • Both of them are the main protagonists who appear in the series of the same name.
    • Both of them temporarily had the power to transform into a werebeast.
  • When Martin was a werewolf, he fought the Werewolf pack to protect Diana and Java. He also imprisoned the Phantom Werewolf in a cage.
    • Martin's vampire heritage might have played a part in him being able to resist the Phantom Werewolf's control while the male Torrington Academy students that were bitten weren't able to. Because werewolves and vampires are known to be enemies in some mythologies.
