Heroine Overview

I am Lusamine. I am the president of this foundation and mother to Gladion and Lillie. And while I will pour my love into protecting Pokémon and my children from pain... I will also try to be strong enough to watch over them without interfering from now on. That would be an even more beautiful kind of love, wouldn't you say? I learned to think this way after watching you... young (Insert Player Name here).
~ Lusamine

Lusamine is the main antagonist in Pokémon Sun and Moon, the (former) secondary antagonist in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and a supporting character in the anime series and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. She is the president of the Aether Foundation.

In the anime, she is voiced by Sayaka Kinoshita in Japanese version, and by Bobbi Hartley in English version.

In Pokémon Masters, she is voiced by Sayaka Ōhara in Japanese Version, and by Michelle Ruff in English version.

In Pokémon Evolutions, She voiced by Mie Sonozaki in Japanese Version, and by Dawn M. Bennett in English version.

Appearance[]

Lusamine has blonde hair with silver streaks and green eyes. She wears a white dress with a diamond badge on it, black and white leggings, and boots of the same color, with green soles. Her boots have a medium-height yellow heel to them.

When Lusamine fuses with a Nihilego, she transforms into a dark-colored version of the Ultra Beast with her upper torso in the bell, her legs hanging out of the body and several eyes on her tentacles with gem-shaped pupils.

Personality[]

In the games[]

Lusamine was originally shown to be a kindhearted lady who is willing to "create a utopia for Pokémon". In truth, however, she seeks for beautiful things she could "own".

Though her daughter and son both try to warn her about the dangers, Lusamine cannot forgive them for betraying her, showing utter coldness, as she does not want anything to stand in her way to obtain the power from the Ultra Beasts.

Ultimately, she wishes to live in a world that consists only of her and Nihilego, which she views as a surrogate family that is completely obedient to her. She is also extremely manipulative, taking advantage of Guzma's inferiority complex to befriend him and convince him to serve as a hidden mercenary for the Aether Foundation.

Despite this, it is implied that Lusamine was a genuinely kind person at one time, but after her husband Mohn was lost in the Ultra Beast's world, the grief drove her insane. After her defeat and forceful separation from her Nihilego, she seems to regain some of her sanity and comments that she finds Lillie "beautiful," before collapsing into a coma.

The Ultra series portray her as a more decent person rather than a beauty obsessed villain she was in the Sun and Moon series. Her goals are more well intentioned, as she wanted to protect Alola from Necrozma and enlisted the help of the Ultra Recon Squad, and part of her goal is to find her husband, Mohn who disappeared in the Ultra Wormhole. However, she still takes extreme questionable measures to accomplish them. In this case, she was not infected by Nihilego at all.

When Lillie is later brought before her by Team Skull, Lusamine showed utter disappointment in her for stealing Cosmog from her and still vows to stop Necrozma through any means possible and eventually escapes with Guzma through the Wormhole she created with Nebby's power. Later, she was tossed out along with Guzma by Necrozma and warns the player and Lillie to get away after realizing how dangerous the Pokemon was. Her rash actions have seriously harmed the Ultra Recon Squad's trust in her. After the player defeats Necrozma (fused with Nebby, then called Dusk Mane/Dawn Wings Necrozma), light returns to Alola and Lusamine reconciles with Lillie and mother and daughter leave to tend to Nebby's wounds.

She later becomes the damsel in distress in the Rainbow Rocket Episode and Lillie and the player must defeat the team leaders of the past and reach Giovanni who is holding her captive. After he is defeated, Lusamine is saved and after that, she demotes Faba from his Branch Chief title to being just an intern for his treacherous involvement with Team Rainbow Rocket.

If spoken to after becoming Champion, Lusamine will express remorse for everything she has done, vowing to better herself as a protector of Pokémon and a mother to Gladion and Lillie without interfering with either again. On the first day of every month, Lusamine can appear at the Pokémon League to challenge the player to a Title Defense battle, replacing Faba from Sun and Moon.

After Gladion is defeated at the Pokémon League, Mohn will pay a visit to Aether Paradise, during which Lusamine will see him for the first time since his disappearance. Though surprised to see him once again, she chooses not to tell him about his past, believing that he seems happy enough as he is.

In the anime[]

Pokémon Sun and Moon: The Series[]

Lusamine is seen as a very serious and determined woman due to her role as the leader alongside her members, Professor Burnet, Wicke and Faba from the Aether Foundation.

Upon her family, she can be very ditsy similar to Lola's when she keeps doting towards her daughter Lillie, like messing around with her hair.

Like Aria, Lusamine is constantly getting abrupt phone calls from her cellphone due to her busy works at the foundation, which makes her unable to spend more time with her children.

When Faba uses Nebby's power to open the gate of Nihilego's dimension, Lusamine is not without her darker side upon happily seeing Nihilego enter the Pokémon world. However, she manages to snap out of her darker side and focus on the safety of her children.

As Ash and the gang entered the Ultra Space with Nebby, Lusamine's darker side of her personality ended up becoming a perfect subject of Nihilego's fusion with her, corrupting her will completely.

After the fusion with Nihilego is complete, she started acting like a child and kept telling her children as well as Ash and the gang to go away. Although, she was soon ensnared and engulfed by Nihilego when she is progressively regaining her will and recognizes her love for her children until Ash defeats it to rescue her. Once she is finally diffusing with Nihilego from its defeat, Lusamine also became deeply emotional towards her children upon their reunion once more.

Lusamine attended the wedding of Professor Kukui and Professor Burnet in The Professors' New Adventure!, alongside Wicke and a demoted Faba. During the post-nuptials, Lusamine asked Ash, Lillie, and their classmates to join the Ultra Guardians, a task force dedicated to dealing with any upcoming Ultra Beast incidents, which they accepted. Starting in A Mission of Ultra Urgency!, she, Wicke, and Professor Burnet would brief Ash and his classmates whenever they embark on a mission as Ultra Guardians. She also accompanies them when the caught Ultra Beast gets released back into Ultra Space.

In Love at First Twirl!, she, Wicke, and Professor Burnet contacted Ash and his classmates about the new Pokémon they had just encountered. They confirmed it was an Ultra Beast and chose to name it Poipole. Since the location of the Ultra Wormhole it had appeared from was unknown, Lusamine instructed Ash to catch Poipole and take care of it until it could be returned to its home world. She reappeared in The Shape of Love to Come!, where she, Wicke, and Faba were informed by Ash about new information regarding Poipole. There, Ash revealed that the drawings Poipole makes are an expression of its feelings.

In Filling the Light with Darkness!, mysterious dark clouds appeared over Alola, leaving all of the adults tired and without motivation. After doing some research, Lusamine, Wicke, Faba, and Professor Burnet found out that the cause of the incident was a small Ultra Wormhole that was slowly draining Alola's Ultra Aura. The Ultra Guardians were sent to the Altar of the Sunne, where Lusamine revealed that they would be joined by Gladion as a new member. Under Faba's instruction, the Ultra Guardians with Z-Rings combined their Z-Power to fuel a device that could disperse the clouds so the hidden Ultra Wormhole's exact location could be determined. Afterwards, Lusamine took the Ultra Guardians into the ruins of the altar, where she showed them a mural depicting the Blinding One. Before any attempt to translate the mural could be done, the group was forced to return outside, where they found the wormhole increasing in size. At that moment, they witnessed a Lunala emerging from the wormhole with a Necrozma chasing after it.

In the following episode, the Ultra Guardians followed the two Legendary Pokémon to Melemele Island, prompting Lusamine and the others follow suit. She was later seen arriving at the island, after Necrozma had fused with Nebby and had left. She and the others then oversaw Lunala recover in the Ultra Guardians base. When the Ultra Guardians decided to go after Necrozma, Lusamine was initially against the plan, but eventually allowed the group to leave. After the Ultra Guardians and Lunala left for Ultra Space, Lusamine stayed behind at the base with Burnet and Wicke to gather information and give orders. When Burnet managed to translate the mural from the Altar of the Sunne, Lusamine learned the true identity of UB Black and how to restore it back to its former self. After contacting the Ultra Guardians again and sharing their findings with them in the next episode, Lusamine joined the rest of Alola in sharing their Z-Power with Necrozma so it could return to its true form. After Necrozma returned to its Ultra form, Lusamine watched as the Ultra Guardians, Nebby, and Lunala returned to Alola, alongside Burnet, Wicke, Faba, and Kukui.

In Sparking Confusion!, Lusamine noticed an unusual magnetic energy at Wela Volcano Park, which was interfering with the Aether Foundation's ability to detect Ultra Aura. The Ultra Guardians flew over to the area, only to discover the havoc that was being wreaked by a group of Alolan Graveler, Geodude, and Golem. They then discovered that their feeding rituals were disrupted by a group of rock hunters. With some help from Metang, the group calmed down.

In Don't Ignore the Small Stufful!, Lusamine joined Wicke and Lillie and her classmates in the search for a missing Stufful from Aether Paradise's Conservation Area. Team Rocket was revealed to be behind the chaos, but Lusamine was glad to see Stufful reunited with its mother Bewear.

Having received news from Gladion, who visited Tapu Fini in Memories in the Mist!, that Mohn may still be alive, she began to search for his whereabouts in The Secret Princess!. The search led Lusamine to begin dealing with her years of grief since her husband's disappearance as she realized her children were interested in their father. She escorted her children to Mohn's secret study, hidden behind a trap bookshelf in the family's Melemele Island mansion. As Lillie and Gladion located several items belonging to Mohn, including his Z-Ring, a rusted Magearna, and a journal, Lusamine told them some of Mohn's past.

During the Manalo Conference, Lusamine spectated the battles alongside Professor Burnet, Wicke, and later Faba. She felt incredibly proud of her two children during their battle in The Battlefield of Truth and Love!, cheering them both on and wishing Mohn could have seen the two. During the finals match in Final Rivals!, she was shocked to see Gladion sending out Zoroark, immediately recognizing it as Mohn's. Later, despite Gladion's defeat, she was touched by the magnificent battle her son had delivered.

In Thank You, Alola! The Journey Continues!, following Magearna's awakening and the revelation of its capability to find Mohn, Lusamine, Lillie, and Gladion decided to leave Alola to find Mohn. After saying goodbye to their friends, the family embarked on their journey.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series[]

In The Homecoming Crown!, Lusamine and her children arrived at the Crown Tundra in the Galar region to find Mohn. After camping out during a blizzard for the night, they reunited with Mohn at a cabin. However, they found out that Mohn had amnesia and failed to remember them. They also discovered that a Shiny Nihilego, nicknamed "Lillie", had been living with Mohn, with him believing that the Ultra Beast was his daughter. While Lusamine talked with Mohn, Lillie and Gladion decided to look around the cabin for clues, which led them to finding their father's old clothes and a mirror in a room. Through the aid of Ash, Goh, and Chloe, Lillie and Gladion were able to snap Mohn out of his amnesia by making him see his reflection in the mirror, and the reunited family embraced each other. Seeing that Nihilego was leaving, Lillie stopped the Parasite Pokémon before it disappeared, as she and her family were grateful for everything it did for Mohn and invited it to come back to Alola with them, which it happily accepted. Lusamine joined her family to capture Nihilego in a Beast Ball before joining in on a group photo of the reunited family.

In Helping the Hometown Hero!, Lusamine's family, Ash, Goh, and Chloe arrived in Alola, attending a party to celebrate their return. During the party, Lusamine reunited with the other Aether Foundation members. The next day, Lusamine watched Gladion participate in a Battle Royal match with Ash, Kiawe, and Professor Kukui.

In the manga[]

Lusamine values beauty in life, and abhors anything that could spoil that beauty. She is also interested in Ultra Beasts, and devised a plan to summon them into the world.

In truth, Lusamine is deeply troubled, ever since her husband went missing. She felt that he abandoned her and her children, as he didn't like the direction of the Aether Foundation company that Lusamine and Faba were taking to. With her plan completed, Lusamine declared herself as the mother of all Ultra Beasts, and fused with Nihilego to turn the pain she was feeling into a positive emotion.

Trivia[]

  • Lusamine is the first female villainous team leader in the main game series, as well as the first female main antagonist (the latter is only true in Sun & Moon, as she is no longer the main antagonist in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon).
  • Lusamine is portrayed more heroically in the anime series than she did in the games and manga.
    • Though in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, she is much less villainous than she was in Sun & Moon, and ultimately reforms in the end of the story.
  • By going through varies texts through Sun & Moon, it is highly implied that Lusamine's actions are a result from being infected by Nihilego's neurotoxins.
    • This is not the case in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, where she was well-intended in trying to stop Necrozma from stealing light from the world, yet has done questionable deeds to accomplish her goals.
  • In Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, her husband, Mohn, shows up years after his disappearance, but he doesn't remember neither her nor their children. However, in Pokémon Journeys: The Series, he remembers her and their children and reunites with them, moving with them back to Alola.
  • She is over 40 years old.
