Prior to the official announcement, fans seemingly had the season 4 renewal confirmed when it was discovered that Warner Bros Animation had registered Season 4 of Harley Quinn along with ten episode titles at the Entertainment Identifier Registry which is a global database used by production companies to record their upcoming projects. This sparked much speculation of the validity of the registrations but as EIDR only accepts new registries from identified companies and the metadata confirming that Warner Bros Animation was the owner of the registries, the odds of it being faked seemed low; prior to this, the show's future was a matter of much discussion in online forums due to the number of animated projects for Max that Warner Bros. Discovery was cancelling and removing from the service.[7][1] This was seemingly confirmed when the fourth season was announced a few weeks later. However, whether the titles will stick remains to be seen.

The fourth season was officially announced prior to the conclusion of season 3 via the official Twitter account on 31st August, 2022.[8] It was been confirmed that with the fourth Sarah Peters, who penned four episodes across seasons 2 and 3, is being promoted to executive producer and showrunner as co-creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker are primarily focusing on the spin-off Noonan's[9] later renamed Kite Man: Hell Yeah!.[10]

On 15th June 2023, Warner Bros. confirmed that the fourth season would be released later that summer.[11] Not long after that, on the 23rd of June, Warner Bros. finally confirmed that the fourth would premiere on July 27, 2023.[12] On July 10th, the official poster was released via the official Twitter account.[4] The official trailer dropped on July 20th 2023, confirming that the season would center around Harley and Ivy's new opposing jobs.[5]
