Apokolips is an ecumenopolis with burning firepits, ruled by the despot Darkseid. Apokolips is separated from the rest of the universe, leaving it accessible by "Boom Tube".
In "Inner (Para) Demons", Harley Quinn with encouragement from Doctor Psycho stole Mister Miracle's Mother Box and opened a Boom Tube to Apokolips in order to get a parademons army from Darkseid to rule Gotham.
