The best IVs for Valentine's Alfonse are +Atk and -Spd.

Alfonse's weapon is very useful in helping him deal more damage, as it inflicts -5 Atk/Res on an enemy unit during combat. Therefore, having atk as his boon will greatly increase his firepower.

As an armor unit, Valentine's Alfonse does have low speed, but with Bold Fighter 3 he doesn't need to worry about follow-up attacks. Making speed his bane is ideal as he won't be relying on it.

+Atk for a +10 Merge

Valentine's Alfonse's attack is pretty high so it's the recommended IV when merging him.

His attack can go up to 57 at +10 merges, which is a lot of firepower.

However, if you are looking to replace his B skill to make him an enemy phase unit, then it may be better to raise his Res for merges.

How to Use, Explanation

This is Valentine's Alfonse's base kit. His base skills are decent enough to work by itself. You can give him any positional assist and Quick Riposte 3 to help him score follow-up attacks during the enemy phase. Goad Armor is a good C skill if he's in an armor-centric team, but you can substitute any C skill that fits your team composition.

How to Use, Explanation

With Close Counter or Close Foil, Valentine's Alfonse can retaliate when a melee unit attacks her. Refine Amity Blooms+ with Res to round out his defenses even more. Sol can help him stay alive alongside his weapon. Armor March 3 can help an all-armor team with mobility, though you can replace it with any skill that helps whatever team composition he's in.

Valentine's Alfonse is a ranged magic attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Res stat.

Improved firepower and bulk when near allied units

When Valentine's Alfonse is within 2 spaces of an ally, Amity Blooms+:

• Inflicts -5 Atk/Res to foe
• Heals alfonse for 4 HP if he lands hits on the opponent.

The trigger effect and the skill bonuses synergize well with Def/Res Form 3's +X Def/Res that is dependent on the number of allies that are within 2 spaces of Alfonse. Make sure to always keep allied units near Alfonse to squeeze out as much power from him!

Guaranteed follow-up makes way for consistent Moonbow activation

Alfonse scores a Moonbow activation even in the frist turn because he initiated an attack. This is all thanks to Bold Fighter

Valentine's Alfonse has the armor-only skill Bold Fighter 3, which grants him a guaranteed follow-up attack when initiating combat, as well as special cooldown charge +1. This means that when initiating combat, Moonbow automatically trigger, allowing him to take down most enemies.

Valentine's Alfonse Weaknesses

Armored movement makes it hard to play his kit

A degree of attention is required to play Valentine's Alfonse's kit to its fullest. His positioning is important as his position in relation to allies is the main trigger condition of two of his skills and his 1 space of movement does not make it easy.

Also, armored movement makes it hard to initiate on foes first, so you might take a hit from an enemy before being able to proc Bold Fighter 3.

This can be remedied if he has or he is with an ally with Armor March 3. Alternatively, you can always give him the Armored Boots Sacred Seal.

Weak to Armor Effective Weapons

Valentine's Alfonse takes 1.5x damage from armor-effective weapons like Armorslayer+ or Hammer+, and one blow from these types of weapons is sure to take him down. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!
