Biographies of living people

edit

Hi there, thanks for creating the Sam Broughton article. Please be advised that biographies of living people must be referenced. Please review Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Schwede66 07:45, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

You need to add references. Infoboxes are nice extras; references are a requirement. Otherwise, it won't be long before the article is put up for deletion. If you don't know how to add references, please ask (here is good). Schwede66 09:07, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sam Broughton

edit

Howdy hello! I wanted to let you know that I have just turned Sam Broughton into a redirect. I'm afraid that most local mayors do not meet our requirements for notability, i.e. aren't well enough written about to have a standalone article. I know it feels bad to have your work undone, so please ask on my talk page if you have any further questions. If you can find 3 more reliable and independent sources that show significant coverage of the subject, please post them on my talk page and I will reconsider the notability of the subject. Smooth sailing, Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:25, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, that's fine. I can understand that there want much in terms of volume of information for the article. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Cheers. Lord A.Nelson (talk) 00:28, 14 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@CaptainEek: I concur with the notion above that there wasn't much to that article; hence it wasn't that useful. I suggest, however, that the subject has passed the notability threshold. Over the years, I have seen quite a bit of in-depth reporting. If you are interested in giving this another go, Lord A.Nelson, I suggest that you write this in draft namespace and I would be willing to give you a hand. I should not write the article myself as it could be argued that I have a conflict of interest. The very first thing would be to have a look around for sources. If enough can be found that is of substance, drafting could begin. Schwede66 03:54, 14 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Schwede66, If a solid draft were created, I'd definitely give it a second look. I have no prejudice against recreation, but such recreation needs appropriate sourcing. Starting in draftspace would be ideal. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 03:57, 14 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Notice of community-authorized general sanctions regarding COVID-19

edit
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

A community discussion has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The specific details of these sanctions are described here.

Broadly, general sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

Speedy deletion nomination of Catholic Bishops of Aotearoa New Zealand

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Catholic Bishops of Aotearoa New Zealand requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 02:02, 23 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Malvern Hills, New Zealand moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Malvern Hills, New Zealand, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. buidhe 19:54, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Buidhe. I shall have that sorted over the next few days or weeks. Lord A.Nelson (talk) 13:52, 29 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Adding unreferenced content

edit

There seems to be a recurring issue with you adding unreferenced content, and even unreferenced articles. That is a serious issue and it has to stop. Consider yourself warned. Wikipedia has just three core content policies, and verifiability is one of those. I recommend you give that page a read.

If you can't be bothered to add references, Wikipedia isn't the right hobby for you and you need to look for something else. If you carry on like this, you will soon see yourself blocked. If you need help with figuring out how to do something, please ask. Here's good. Schwede66 07:42, 1 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Thank you for your concern. I can understand the importance of referencing and I totally agree with you. In regard with my 'recurring' issue of adding references, I am shocked. Yes, I can think of three notable examples, the first being of Sam Broughton (in which you left a message on my talk page), the second being Malvern Hills, New Zealand and Homebush, New Zealand. The reasoning for the first two examples are: I had not finished the article and secondly in regards to Homebush, the wikitext was copied over from the page of Aylesbury, New Zealand, which too, had no references. If that had not been addressed since December 2006, then surely it wouldn't hurt for Homebush (but learnt how wrong I was later when I read your message). If I do add something significant, I try and find a source, otherwise I leave it or wait till one is created. Your warning is heeded and I will take note. If there are any other examples of me violating a page with unreferenced material, please let me know as I would not liked to be blocked. I look forward to reading your reply. Kind regards, Lord A.Nelson (talk) 09:57, 1 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Important Notice

edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
