Appearances

Marvel Cinematic Universe

Black Panther

Nakia appears in this film as an ex-girlfriend of the new king of Wakanda, T'Challa. Nakia joins T'Challa on a mission with Okoye, while Shuri questions if it is a good idea to bring an ex on the mission. Nakia and T'Challa talk about their failed relationship, and when the king tells her she would make an excellent queen if she wasn't so stubborn, Nakia tells T'Challa she would make a great queen because of this quality. After Erik Killmonger battles T'Challa for the throne and T'Challa seemingly dies, Nakia is distraught until it is revealed T'Challa is alive and Killmonger dies. Sometime later, Nakia speaks with T'Challa who kisses her and they get back together.

Avengers: Infinity War & Avengers: Endgame

While she doesn't appear in the films, Nakia survives the snap, while T'Challa is one of the 50% erased from existence. In 2019, Nakia gives birth to her and T'Challa's son whom they name T'Challa II. Nakia is reunited with T'Challa five years later in 2023, when Hulk reverses the snap and brings those who were disintegrated by Thanos' snap, back to live. A short time after T'Challa's brought back, he and Nakia decide she should raise their son in Tahiti, so he is not under the pressure of the crown.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

In 2024, Nakia is living in Haiti with her son T'Challa II, when she is informed of T'Challa's illness and that he is dying. In May, T'Challa dies and then by the following year, in 2025, Queen Ramonda comes to see Nakia to speak to her about why she left Wakanda. Nakia introduces her son to his grandmother, Ramonda during the queen's visit.

Nakia is informed of the water God, Namor by Ramonda, who asks Nakia to return to Wakanda to help them. Although hesitant, Nakia agrees and learns that Namor has taken Shuri and a young scientist named Riri Williams, so Nakia goes to find the princess and the scientist, promising the queen that she will bring them back home. Nakia goes underwater to find that Shuri and Riri are captured by Namor, and she threatens him for Shuri and Riri's safety. After also threating one of Namor's guards, Nakia returns to the surface with Shuri and Riri, who reunite with Queen Ramonda.

However, the Golden City is attacked by Namor and his guards, which results in Ramonda drowning. Nakia and Okoye try to revive the queen and Williams and while they are successful in reviving Riri, Ramonda is not so lucky and dies. Nakia and Okoye try to keep Shuri back, as she is so devastated and heartbroken over her mother's death.

Sometime later, Nakia, Riri and Okoye join Shuri as she successfully recreates the heart shaped herb (that she couldn't do when T'Challa died) and the three comfort and support Shuri as she decides to take it to become the next Black Panther. Shuri successfully takes the herb and Nakia asks her who she saw in the Astro-Plane, but Shuri doesn't mention she has seen Erik Killmonger. Nakia, Okoye and Riri help Shuri as she creates her own Black Panther suit, ready to defeat Namor in revenge for Ramonda's death. Nakia tries to get through to Shuri and warns her about Namor, not wanting the princess to regret her actions later on.

Nakia watches on as Shuri battles Namor and Nakia works alongside M'Baku to protect Wakanda from Namor's army. After Shuri decides to let Namor live and both kingdoms make peace, Nakia goes back to Tahiti to be with her son and now Shuri, who has also moved there, deciding not to become the new queen of Wakanda.

A few days later, Nakia finds Shuri on a Haitian beach, mourning her brother. Nakia asks Shuri if she and her son can now join her, which Shuri agrees. Nakia introduces her son as Toussaint to Suri and tells her he is her nephew. Shuri, speechless, asks about Toussaint and Nakia informs her that she and T'Challa agreed to raise their son in Tahiti so he does not grow up with the pressure of the crown. Nakia also mentions to Shuri that she and Toussaint had their own funeral for T'Challa as they knew he was dying. Nakia comforts Shuri after she tearfully learns Nakia's son is actually named T'Challa II, after his deceased father.
