Mr. Rzykruski is a supporting character in Tim Burton's 2012 film Frankenweenie. He is an eccentric science teacher at Victor Frankenstein's school and is the one who inspires Victor to bring his dog Sparky back to life.

Description[]

Mr. Rzykruski is the new science teacher at New Holland Elementary School. He has a thick, Eastern European accent and a unique way of explaining things. He connects with his students, but parents misunderstand his passionate teaching style. Mr. Rzykruski serves as a mentor and inspiration to Victor, teaching him that science can do both good and bad things and that if a scientist does not put his heart into his experiment, there could be disastrous consequences.

Appearances[]

Frankenweenie[]

Mr. Rzykruski is first seen introducing himself to his students at the New Holland Elementary School, planning to be the school's science teacher due to the other teacher, Mr. Holcomb having an incident which Edgar replies that he was hit by lightning. However Rzykruski denies, telling him that lightning does not hit a person the way they are hit by a baseball or a cabbage, as lightning is simply electricity just as he continues giving his class a subject about lightning and electricity. After class ends, Mr. Rzykruski hands a permission slip for a science fair for his students if they want to attend just as the students leave. Later during a game of baseball, Victor remembers what Mr. Rzykruski said to him that concentrating is important especially during the science fair just before Victor gets his turn during a game of baseball. After Victor gets one strike during baseball, he remembers what Mr. Rzykruski told him, telling him that when conducting an experiment, it is important to keep trying, telling him that it is all right to fail as long as one keeps trying. The next day during class, Mr. Rzykruski teaches his students on how electricity works on a frog telling his class of how the electricity process works while Victor draws a picture of Sparky on his notebook to feel inspired in bringing him back to life.

Later, during a PTA meeting held by Mr. Burgermeister, Edward speaks to the Mayor, telling him that his son Victor is crazy about the new teacher, Mr. Rzykruski, whom he thinks he is a great teacher, planning to give him a chance to explain himself, much to Bob's mother thinking that Rzykruski is a menace. As Mr. Rzykruski speaks in front of the audience, he tells them that science is like magic and witchcraft, trying to teach the class about what science is, much to everyone's shock and Mr. Burgermeister's anger. The next day, Mr. Rzykruski leaves school with his belongings from science class while the gym teacher takes over his position as science teacher just as Rzykruski plans to leave. As Victor discusses with him, he tells him that he should be a scientist like what he did before where Victor recaps of his first time doing a science experiment as Victor's teacher replies to him that people think science is here but it is also here in his experience high Victor remembers his first time experimenting before his teacher left. Mr. Rzykruski then replies to Victor that science is neither good or bad, but it can be used both ways, telling him to experiment carefully just before leaving.

Trivia[]
