  • Angels sign Kevin Newman
Jon Heyman confirmed reports that the Angels signed INF Kevin Newman to a one-year deal with a club option for 2026.

Advice: The Angels seem to be scooping up all the veterans this offseason, trading for Jorge Soler and signing Travis d’Arnaud and now Newman. The 31-year-old hit .278 in 288 at-bats in 2024 with three home runs, 28 RBI, and eight steals. However, the veteran’s real value will come with his elite defense across the infield, which has led him to be a positive-WAR player over his career. He will likely fill a utility role off the bench for the Angels. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Yankees, Tim Hill want a reunion
Daily News’ Gary Phillips reports that the Yankees and LHP Tim Hill have a mutual interest in a reunion.

Advice: Hill was released by the White Sox in June after posting a 5.87 ERA, 2.22 WHIP, and 13/10 K/BB ratio in 23 innings. However, after signing with the Yankees, the left-hander had a 2.05 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 18/9 K/BB ratio in 44 innings. He won’t be a fantasy asset but would be a strong addition to the Yankees’ bullpen. Rotoworld Today, 9:44 am
  • Yoán Moncada exits after HBP
Yoán Moncada left Wednesday night’s Premier12 game after being hit on the hand by a pitch.

Advice: Moncada is a free agent who has reportedly been attracting interest from a few teams this offseason, so a potential injury for an oft-injured player would be a killer to his market. However, it was revealed after the game that he didn’t suffer any fractures, so he should be fully healthy heading into 2025. Rotoworld Today, 9:35 am
  • Signs minors deal with Atlanta
Atlanta signed Leblanc to a minor-league contract Wednesday.

Advice: Leblanc, 28, is a career .254/.330/.412 hitter over parts of two big-league seasons. He will provide Atlanta with some infield depth. Rotowire.com Today, 9:24 am
  • Move to rotation not ruled out
Twins bench coach Jayce Tingler indicated in a recent interview that the team is open to the possibility of moving Jax into the rotation, Mike Ferrin of MLB Network Radio reports.

Advice: Jax came up through the minors as a starting pitcher and made 14 starts for the Twins in 2021, posting a 6.10 ERA. He's since turned into a lockdown reliever, most recently collecting a 2.03 ERA and 95:15 K:BB over 71 innings this season. With a five-pitch mix and past starting experience, Jax would seem more equipped for a shift to the rotation than most relievers. The question is whether the uptick in stuff since his move to relief would translate back to a starting role. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:54 pm
  • Twins re-sign Daniel Duarte to minor league pact
Twins re-signed RHP Daniel Duarte to a minor league contract.

Advice: Duarte remains with Minnesota shortly after being removed last week from the club’s 40-man roster. The 27-year-old righty, who has made 36 relief appearances in the big leagues since 2022, is expected to miss the vast majority of next season as he recovers from UCL revision surgery. • Astros sign Steven Okert to minor league contract
Astros signed LHP Steven Okert to a minor league contract.

Advice: Okert heads to Houston as extra left-handed relief depth after struggling to a lackluster 5.09 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 33/16 K/BB ratio across 35 1/3 innings (44 appearances) last season with the Twins. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw has made 272 appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2016. He’ll compete in spring training for a spot in the Astros’ season-opening bullpen. • Cut by Halos
The Angels released Miller on Tuesday.

Advice: Miller was dropped from the Angels' 40-man roster Thursday, and he'll now attempt to latch on with another organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 28-year-old reliever allowed six earned runs over 13 innings in the majors in 2024, though his 2.45 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 62.1 Triple-A frames should be enough to net him a minor-league deal elsewhere. • Stark: Giants not meeting with Juan Soto yet
The Athletic’s Jayson Stark reports the Giants do not have a meeting set up with Juan Soto.

Advice: ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported earlier this week that the Blue Jays and Red Sox are in line to meet with Soto at the outset of free agency. That doesn’t necessarily mean the Giants won’t be involved in the Soto sweepstakes at some point, but it’s an unexpected wrinkle considering they were expected to be in the mix.
