We are the independent advocate for the Goulburn Valley to be a visitor destination. Originally formed in 2001 as Tourism Greater Shepparton Inc and now trading as Destination Goulburn Valley, we are the independant advocate for the Goulburn Valley to be recognised as a visitor destination. We believe an effective tourism ecosystem for the Goulburn Valley takes partnership and collaboration. Encouraging local and state government to recognise and develop our region as a visitor destination. Our goal is to: Connect visitors to the diverse range of visitor experiences on offer in the Goulburn Valley region Increase the length of stay of visitors through a range of marketing and promotional activities Provide local professional development opportunities for the Visitor Economy sector Build cooperative relationships

Recently we sat down with Pip Turton. Philippa "Pip" Turton has a love for the Goulburn Valley that is palpable in every word she speaks about the region. Pip has found inspiration in the stories that breathe life into her surroundings. Her passion for the Valley recently culminated in a powerful narrative for ABC's Haywire competion. Goulburn Region Tourism is thrilled to formally announce the appointment of Peter Russell as the inaugural Chair and Jane Lovell as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the entity. Together, they bring a wealth of experience across all aspects of regional Victoria and the visitor economy and will work towards a shared vision for the Goulburn region as a destination, strategically enhancing the tourism landscape. The combination of Peter’s leadership as Chair and Jane’s vision as Chief Executive Officer position the new organisation to elevate the Goulburn region as an emerging destination and support the region’s passionate industry. 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹, 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 Peter Russell is an accomplished executive having over 40 years’ experience across a diverse range of industries, including technology, regional tourism, franchising, hospitality, agriculture, and investment management. Peter specialises in governance and has held a variety of senior leadership and board positions. This includes serving as the Chair of Yarra Ranges Tourism where he implemented governance frameworks and strengthened stakeholder relations. He also has direct experience in the tourism industry as a co-owner in the Peppers Hotel Group for over a decade. Peter is keen to contribute to the growth of the Goulburn region’s tourism industry. He is particularly motivated by the opportunity to help elevate the region’s profile. His strong background in regional tourism, paired with his governance experience, positions him well to make a significant impact on the development of the region’s tourism landscape. 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹, 𝗖𝗘𝗢 Jane Lovell joins Goulburn Region Tourism, bringing a strong commitment to engagement with extensive experience in business management, governance and stakeholder relations. Jane’s career spans across corporate, not-for-profit, public service and community sectors, with significant expertise and passion in regional development. Jane has previously held the role of Chief Executive Officer at Victorian Farmers Federation and the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Seafood Industry Australia, where she established the organisation as a leading national industry advocate, developing sustainable industry practices and building strategic partnerships. Jane’s passion for regional development and sustainable growth is evident in her community involvement, including sitting on community groups and boards. Her deep affinity with the Goulburn Region’s mission to drive sustainable tourism growth and support local businesses also aligns closely with her personal values as she steps into the role.

  • Industry Update - Short Stay Levy In August 2024, the Victorian Government announced the introduction of a short stay levy. Starting from 1 January 2025, a proposed 7.5% levy will apply to all short-term accommodation bookings (less than 28 consecutive days), including those made through platforms like Airbnb and Stayz. The State Revenue Office (SRO) will oversee the levy and is offering a series of online webinars for accommodation owners and operators in the coming months. These sessions will cover key details, including an overview of the levy, definitions, registration requirements, lodgement processes, and payment procedures.     Destination Goulburn Valley are proud to be engaged to judge Shepparton & Goulburn Valley’s award for Visitor Experience of the Year as part of Greater Shepparton’s 2024 SPC Business Excellence Awards these awards are proudly delivered by Greater Shepparton Business Network. DGV Executive Officer, Vicki Scott spent the day with Alysia Brandenburg judging local business in the region for the upcoming Greater Shepparton Business Networks Awards. Vicki and Alysia tasked with judging the Leading Visitor Experience category with five local businesses proud finalists. 'These businesses are the heartbeat of our region’s growth and success, offering experiences for visitors to discover all that the Goulburn Valley has to offer' acknowledged Vicki. 'The added bonus was spending the day with Alysia Brandenburg, a leading and well respected visitor economy specialist, who shared her wisdom and expertise with Vicki as they travelled around the region'.   • REMINDER - National Business Events Program Regional Victoria Grant Opportunity The National Events Program is now open offering funding to eligible event organisers to host new national business events in regional Victoria, applications closing 21st October 2024. Grants of up to $80 per delegate (up to 500 delegates and a maximam of $40,000) are available through the Victorian Government program being delivered by Business Events Victoria in partnership with Melbourne Convention Bureau. 🖊 Economic contribution and capacity of the business event to generate new business event activity in regional Victoria including spending in the Victorian business event supply chain. 🖊 Events that align with or have the potential to attract future national and international event opportunities to the State. o 🖊 Association, corporate and incentive group B2B events will be considered more favourably than one off staff meetings and social gatherings. 🖊 Events delivering additional benefits to the State such as regional touring or satellite events, linkages to Victorian businesses or other benefits. 🖊 Events offering regional dispersal across different areas of the State and across the yearly calendar. 🖊 Events that are conducted in a low or shoulder period will be considered favourably (for example during winter). 🖊 Events that align with Victorian Government priorities will be viewed favourably. 🖊 Applicants who provide greater detail in their application will be viewed more favourably.
