Triton Gardens was a garden attraction located at Fantasyland in Disneyland.
History[]
Triton Gardens was a minor transformation for the defunct attraction Alpine Gardens whose predecessor was the site for the House of the Future area at Tomorrowland. Following the closure of Alpine Gardens, the plot of Tomorrowland became part of Fantasyland. In order to give the area a Fantasyland theme, a statue of King Triton was added. While the Disneyland Entertainment Times Guides pamphlets claimed that Triton Gardens was located next to Sleeping Beauty Castle, the garden was actually located near the Tomorrowland side of the Matterhorn Bobsleds area next to Astro Orbitor and the area of what used to be the queue of Rocket Rods and Circle-Vision 360° (now Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters as of today).
Triton Gardens permanently closed on August 17, 2008 to make way for the Pixie Hollow attraction in Disneyland. The pond where the Triton statue once stood became repurposed into an enchanted pond which was used to imagine guests as if they were into the size of a fairy entering Pixie Hollow. In addition to the closure of the attraction, the King Triton statue was placed in the exterior of The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure attraction at Disney California Adventure as a tribute to the attraction.
Summary[]
Triton Gardens was a minor transformation of the former Alpine Gardens area at Disneyland. Instead of featuring a picnic area unlike in the previous attraction, it instead featured a bronze statue of King Triton from the 1989 Disney animated feature film The Little Mermaid and the water became a focal point throughout the area in order to fit its Little Mermaid theme such as the water spraying out of the trident which Triton is holding as well as laminar streams. A bronze statue of Ariel was also placed resting on a waterfall fountain located in the same attraction as well and on the other side was the former Ariel's Grotto area where guests could meet Ariel in this area.
Trivia[]
- During nighttime, Triton Gardens would put on underwater light shows to entertain guests just like in Alpine Gardens.
