Kalle Demos is the Boss of the Forbidden Woods in The Wind Waker.[1] It swallowed Makar whole after he ventured too far from the Forest Haven in preparation for the Korok Ceremony and fell into the Forbidden Woods.

Characteristics[]

Kalle Demos is made up of two integral parts: a vulnerable flower-like head and the multi-armed hanging bulb that not only poses a threat to Link, but shields the flower inside from damage. The bulb has two different types of tentacles: the ones that anchor the creature to the ceiling and those that act as electrified barbs. The latter motivates Link to stay mobile throughout the entire battle. If Link stays in one position for too long, the arms can strike and damage him.

Link must first snip the tentacles that anchor the boss to the ceiling with the Boomerang, causing it to fall to the ground. The beast then fully outstretches and blooms wide open, exposing the flower inside. Link must run in with his Sword and hack at the flower, taking full advantage of the boss' Critical Point. If Link spends too much time attacking the boss during this state, the bulb will close around him and chew him before spitting him out, causing a full Heart worth of damage. Alternatively, pouring Forest Water on the exposed flower will defeat Kalle Demos instantly.[2][3]

After Kalle Demos is defeated, Makar thanks Link for his service, and the latter yields a Heart Container before returning to the Great Deku Tree.

Kalle Demos is found again in Ganon's Tower later in the game. It must be defeated for a second time in the same fashion to break the seal to the door leading to Ganondorf.
