Mechanics of rigidly plastic bodies and constructions are considered based on the non-classical variational calculus. Main attention has been paid to mathematical aspects of modelling rigid plastic materials. Efficient general methods proposed by the authors for the investigation of non-smooth functionals connected with static and dynamic problems of the plasticity theory have been stated.
