The mathematical modelling of near coast shallow water circulation. (English) Zbl 0606.76016
A derivation of the shallow water equations, including wind stress and bottom friction, is given. A finite element procedure for solving the equations, based on the Galerkin weighted residual method is developed. Time integration, incorporating smoothing, is discussed and results for an idealised bay in the form of a sector of a circle are presented.
